I don't know why people always say that the Wii was released to compete with the PS3 & Xbox 360, it really wasn't because Nintendo have went there own way on the Wii, it's been created as a whole new idea of gaming.

@ShiningTufke its probably a CMOS battery that would make it so you could save settings and such when you unplug the system the data would not get lost. When the CMOS battery is dead your system will reset to factory settings and you will be prompted to set time/date every time you turn the system on.
@ShiningTufke If your wii keeps setting the date back to 2008 (or any year that you did not set it too) then it maybe that the CMOS battery is dead/dying. The Wii will still work and things like saved games will still be okay but some little things you may have already noticed like the date/time will get reset and that can be annoying.
So yes the little coin like battery (CMOS) might very well be dead, but no your Wii should still be okay over all.
@ShiningTufke It is more likely a disc drive issue. Which may be able to to be fixed. What happens when you put a disk in your Wii? Have you updated the Wii? It is unlikely a software issue but just to be on the safe side update your Wii.

The Wii is a lot of fun, and it provides some great party games that are perfect for a group of friends. But the system itself is just plain wimpy. No HD, no hard drive, no good online, and the graphics are damn ugly. In terms of system, the Xbox 360 and the PS3 (ESPECIALLY THE PS3) tower above the Wii. Then again, why do you think the Wii is so cheap?

It's not just graphics the Wii lacks, but gameplay as well. The Wii CPU could never handle highly complex games such as inFAMOUS, Killzone 2, Battlefield: Bad Company, MAG, GTA 4, Flower, i can go on. Usually on a Wii, AIs are few and unintelligent, but on Flower, and I quote: "The grass system really leverages the PS3 to render 200,000 blades of grass simultaneously, and gives the player this sense of blowing wind through them," I may not be a true gamer, but I like quality in a game console.
Nintendo's focus on "game play' is just a talking point. they don't design all the games for the system so the this argument falls flat. Whether a game is good is subjective so the argument that budget for "game play" is limited by production costs is just asinine.

i like how there are little comments about how the wii is fun in the presentation here, but not the other videos. considering these are teardowns, I expected to hear some kind of hardware comparison.... maybe some mention of how weak the wii's hardware is in comparison to the ps3 or 360. The ps3 video made me laugh because a lot of people go around saying "THE GRAPHICS ARE GREAT, IT HAS FOUR CELL PROCESSORS IN IT" and now I can finally confirm that as an impossibility.

The Wii is a lot of fun, and it provides some great party games that are perfect for a group of friends. But the system itself is just plain wimpy. No HD, no hard drive, no good online, and the graphics are damn ugly. In terms of system, the Xbox 360 and the PS3 (ESPECIALLY THE PS3) tower above the Wii. Then again, why do you think the Wii is so cheap?

It's not just graphics the Wii lacks, but gameplay as well. The Wii CPU could never handle highly complex games such as inFAMOUS, Killzone 2, Battlefield: Bad Company, MAG, GTA 4, Flower, i can go on. Usually on a Wii, AIs are few and unintelligent, but on Flower, and I quote: "The grass system really leverages the PS3 to render 200,000 blades of grass simultaneously, and gives the player this sense of blowing wind through them," I may not be a true gamer, but I like quality in a game console.

Nintendo's focus on "game play' is just a talking point. they don't design all the games for the system so the this argument falls flat. Whether a game is good is subjective so the argument that budget for "game play" is limited by production costs is just asinine.

If they were better with graphics, they would get the AWESOME games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Call of Duty MW 2...oh well..we would've also gotten the Zombie Mode for Call of Duty World At War. It just has not enough memory
