written by randy goodrum and steve perry from perrys solo street talk album from 84'.great song with solo by waddy wachtel rhythm guitar mike landau and larry londin drums.brilliant!
@MrTonedeff You are 1/2 right. It was written by Steve Perry and Randy Goodrum AND Craig Krampf and Bill Cuomo. Per Steve Perry and Bill Cuomo, the bulk of the song was written by Steve, Craig and Bill in a 5-hour jam session, and Randy Goodrum was brought in after the music was written to fine tune the lyrics.
@mohansen11 hey man thanks for the info i was doing it from memory and i was highlighting steve ,randy and the excellent players on the song! the ones i remembered !but its good to give credit when it,s due! did,nt know that it took five hours to write whoa! that,s a long time! what a song though huh? brilliant!
@MrTonedeff I think most songwriters would actually be thrilled to have the music for a song completed in 5 hours. That would mean coming up with the music for 8 songs in a 40-hour week. Inspiration is not usually so kind. And, as we all know, some people will only have one hit in their entire lifetime. So, to have written a hit song in 5 hours, is actually quite a feat.
@mohansen11 i agree inspiration can strike anywhere like when paul simon wrote homeward bound on a train station at widnes in north of england looking forward to going home ! some songs are written in minutes. others can take hours evidently! also factor in record company pressure and following up big success like thriller or the stranger!
i have heard this song like a million times playing in the background of my car and never thought much of it but like a week ago i listened to it and realised how good of a song it is
For a whole lotta years right up until 2007 I visualized this as an all-black band. Imagine my surprise at finding out who the true singers were. It plumb broke my mind, and I haven't been the same ever since.
What I meant is that for all those many times I heard this ballad I thought I was listening to a group like The Temptations. I had absolutely no idea it was a band of fair-skinned guys led by the former lead singer for Journey. Not all of us old-timers are musically savvy, you know. That's got to be one of the biggest misconceptions making the rounds about my generation.
ooooh you meant like black people. i thought you were reffering to the music. now i understand yea I thought that too. Until I heard steve perry. I saw journey live in concert last year, but with Arnel Pineda. but hey, that's what I get for going when I'm 16. btw journey owns.
Funny but somehow you put the arrow always right in the middle of the heart. I´m not really sure what the exact message of this song is but I think the gist is that good stuff can happen if we really want it and let them happen.
The song and a picture of flowers.....interesting, there's a message?..:)

The colors on the flowers reminds me of the Univision logo color.

That's funny; I'm old enough (29) to know Steve Perry is not black, but i had to look up what "black metal" is. Not my thing anyway...
