A misunderstanding is no excuse for hurt feelings, and the causer of the hurt feelings is obliged to apologize for those hurt feelings, regardless of intent -- period.

His original half-assed, sarcastic attempt at contrition was the day after his joke and, if you wanna see the real ahole, watch that one; he is NOT sorry, the only reason he did this was, the network warned him he'd be fired if he didn't. Not a Palin fan and don't think Letterman should be fired. But, I've lost respect for him. Not for the joke itself -- sometimes people screw up. But real men apologize when they mess up like that. And that first "apology" was more of a "screw you" than an apology. This video was the real apology that should have come last week. Instead, he waited for public opinion to corner him before he coughed a CYA speech that he probably didn't write and was forced to read. Bad form, Dave! Grow up!

I can't believe this thing has gotten so much attention. He told a joke, it was taken the wrong way, and now he has apologized (twice) for how it came across. The people who think guys like Letterman sit around and plot how they can best trash the ideologies of those opposite of himself are wackos. I'm a liberal democrat and don't agree with Gov. Palin's political views but I don't accept Letterman's sorry ass apology. He bascially insinuated that both Palin and her daughter (youngest or oldest.... doesn't matter) were both SLUTS. This way crossed the line. There was no rational reason for calling either of them out of their name....even if you disagree politically. I certainly won't be watching Letterman again.... EVER!

Palin manipulated this whole thing rather astutely, in my opinion. Kudos to her political savvy....especially in light of her limited intellectual capacity. As for Letterman, I thought that this apology was extremely well put together. Kudos to him as well. Now he needs to get back to bashing her in a different manner. :)

Yes, limited intellectual capacity. Very easy to tell from the way she answers questions and constructs her sentences. I also read somewhere that she went to five different colleges before getting her graduate degree. Sorry, but I call it as I see it. She's not particularly bright. Rising to the governorship of Alaska isn't particularly impressive to me either.
