I'm South Korean and have nothing wrong with his character. I actually am a lot like him, minus the groping. But really? Hetalia is all about stereotypes so why be mad?

@xAxelxXIII In what way? Japan is Asia's Italy, trust me. Japan is one of the most romantic places I've ever been to, it's definitely a country that lovers should go to. The food's also a lot more elegant in my opinion, although not as tasty nor filling as Korean food is. Korea's more like a Denmark or Iceland.
I always looked at China as the ancient version of Italy. You never tried Chinese food unless a Chinese made it :D For romance, it is romantic if your beloved is deep into history (Think of Raine from Tales of Symphonia! OMFG THE FORBIDDEN CITY!!! OMG this is blah blah blah Empress Wu blah blah blah XD). Japan is awesome too. Vietnamese and Thai foods are tasty as well :]

It is an ethnic-joke comic with a tiny bit of cultural and historical introduction for each countries, though some countries rarely appear on the show. Anybody who can be easily offended shouldn't watch! I really like it, though... England's voice actor is Naruto's Sasuke!
Also, you should be careful watching some of the fan-made contents because many fans like to make it <3 between boys! Since, it got too many boy characters, I guess.
honestly, im ok with him being out of the show. i can see why it was more offensive than many others considering how few positive traits he had compared to others, but the arguements are crazy o.o it is a cartoon, and aside from south korea and a few of the former soviet nations it can be pretty enjoyable at times

@ linochi Well, I'm assuming that the Korean government took a bigger offense to it because of the history between Korea and Japan. It was only about 50 years ago. I don't think that they should have gone this far, they over reacted a bit but i can sort of see their point. Not to mention that most of the government is made of older people who were raised in that era or whose parent were raised in that time. These days, things are much better, and i prefer to keep it that way XD Hetalia pwns, ne?
I don't see how this show was more offensive to Korea than it was to any other nation. All of the nations' chops got busted at some point, and, really, I can't see how Korea's case was so bad.
And, of course the show omits the more gruesome history. Does England kill of 95% of America's native population in the show? Does it address America's horrible, centuries-long history with slavery?
No.
Because it's a cartoon.
Take it at face value, people. No one's trying to learn history from Hetalia.
@Iinochi Im Korean and my family is from South Korea, from this show, there was gonna be a scene where Korea gropes Japan. THat part is what offended the Korean government. We felt that it's an insult. It's true that it's ony a funny cartoon with excellent history lessons, I actualy learned a lot from the show believe it or not.Korea is too cheerful, how often do you see cheerful Koreans, well depends who you hang out with and where you live.

In other words, it's gay. Maybe the Korean government mistook the scene for an insult indicating that Jpan is calling Koreans gay. Let's just say that Korea and Japan had a long history together. Although, I think if the character South Korea had a change in personality, then maybe South Korea would reconsider.
@StrawberryIchigo121 The problem isn't that he behaves "gay", the problem was that e.g. his clothing was incorrect, his birthday was wrong, his behaviour was too perverted and his praise for Japan was irritating (considering their past). Im Yong Soo graps Kikus breasts 'cause he thinks he has ownership over them, which was a reference to the conflict about the Liancourt Rocks (which was also the main reason, I think, that he was banned), but let's just enjoy this lovely character anyway :]
@SkadiPirate All of that is true, and I did notice the birthday part, when I showed this to my dad, he did say that the birthday was incorrect and the hanbok, I think that's how you spell it in English words can't type Korean on my laptop, is wrong. Anyways, you're right, he's just a character, although I was excited that he was gonna be on the anime, but my ancestor's country had to disapprove it. But, their reasons pretty much gave me a summary of Korea's character.

There were also mistakes in the hanbok (his outfit) design. An online petition got around, and protests were formed, so Himayura and the anime producers had to promise to drop the Korea character. Surprised me, because I always thought of Koreans as laid back... But I guess they're a little sensitive about Japanese things 'mocking' Korea.

i'm south korean. i have no problem with south korea being in hetalia, and honestly, no one cares anymore about south korea and japan's old conflicts except for the old people. i know the old people in my family at least don't care. if it mattered hugely, why are south koreans watching anime and why are japanese people listening to k-pop?
for the love of gott and all that is holy. Get over it. The older generation hates S. Korea in Hetalia for prideful reasons while many people there like Hetalia despite it. The main story line was WWII in the beginning, but there are also comic-strips of today or even more in the past. The characters in APH represent the nations of today.
Vietnam is not in the Anime. And South Korea is not in the Anime too (though you can see him in the first ending as a chibi and in episode 14. But actually he was cancelled from the Anime)
@minhphucnguyennguyen i think of it more like S. Korea would just be a part of a whole Korea. Like North and South Italy (Romano and Veneziano) make one whole Italy. So there's probably a good chance there would be a N. Korea character.

Personally I think it's a bad idea for Himaruya to draw a N. Korea character. It would be like an act of commiting a suicide. Seeing like South Koreans perceive and react about their character, I could only imagine that North Koreans' reaction would be even worse.
By the way, I SO want Himaruya to draw Japan's and Poland's relationship! Our countries have done a lot of goodness to each other (even before II WW), so I imagine them as good friends!

You can find such groups everywhere. It doesn't matter if they are forbidden or allowed, they are still there & some of them claim not to be fascistic, so sometimes it's hard to tell.
The Hetalian characters don't represent their politics, they represent their people! So Kiku is fine the way he is, just like every other chara too!

The food's also a lot more elegant in my opinion, although not as tasty nor filling as Korean food is. Korea's more like a Denmark or Iceland.

@Maknaru2 The fan-pictures are of Axis Power Hetalia. It is an ethnic-joke comic with a tiny bit of cultural and historical introduction for each countries, though some countries rarely appear on the show. Anybody who can be easily offended shouldn't watch! I really like it, though... England's voice actor is Naruto's Sasuke!
Also, you should be careful watching some of the fan-made contents because many fans like to make it <3 between boys! Since, it got too many boy characters, I guess.

honestly, im ok with him being out of the show. i can see why it was more offensive than many others considering how few positive traits he had compared to others, but the arguements are crazy o.o it is a cartoon, and aside from south korea and a few of the former soviet nations it can be pretty enjoyable at times

@ linochi Well, I'm assuming that the Korean government took a bigger offense to it because of the history between Korea and Japan. It was only about 50 years ago. I don't think that they should have gone this far, they over reacted a bit but i can sort of see their point. Not to mention that most of the government is made of older people who were raised in that era or whose parent were raised in that time. These days, things are much better, and i prefer to keep it that way XD Hetalia pwns, ne?

I don't see how this show was more offensive to Korea than it was to any other nation. All of the nations' chops got busted at some point, and, really, I can't see how Korea's case was so bad.
And, of course the show omits the more gruesome history. Does England kill of 95% of America's native population in the show? Does it address America's horrible, centuries-long history with slavery?
No.
Because it's a cartoon.
Take it at face value, people. No one's trying to learn history from Hetalia.

@Iinochi Im Korean and my family is from South Korea, from this show, there was gonna be a scene where Korea gropes Japan. THat part is what offended the Korean government. We felt that it's an insult. It's true that it's ony a funny cartoon with excellent history lessons, I actualy learned a lot from the show believe it or not.Korea is too cheerful, how often do you see cheerful Koreans, well depends who you hang out with and where you live.

@Iinochi Also, we, Koreans or at least a lot of us tend to take things seriously. THe Korean government probably thought that the Japanese thought that we Koreans love to grope people. In other words, it's gay. Maybe the Korean government mistook the scene for an insult indicating that Jpan is calling Koreans gay. Let's just say that Korea and Japan had a long history together. Although, I think if the character South Korea had a change in personality, then maybe South Korea would reconsider.

@StrawberryIchigo121 The problem isn't that he behaves "gay", the problem was that e.g. his clothing was incorrect, his birthday was wrong, his behaviour was too perverted and his praise for Japan was irritating (considering their past). Im Yong Soo graps Kikus breasts 'cause he thinks he has ownership over them, which was a reference to the conflict about the Liancourt Rocks (which was also the main reason, I think, that he was banned), but let's just enjoy this lovely character anyway :]

@SkadiPirate All of that is true, and I did notice the birthday part, when I showed this to my dad, he did say that the birthday was incorrect and the hanbok, I think that's how you spell it in English words can't type Korean on my laptop, is wrong. Anyways, you're right, he's just a character, although I was excited that he was gonna be on the anime, but my ancestor's country had to disapprove it. But, their reasons pretty much gave me a summary of Korea's character.

@TheRealYamiRakurai Actually, the South Korean nation/government found the character offensive due to the fact that he gropes Japan and idolizes China. There were also mistakes in the hanbok (his outfit) design. An online petition got around, and protests were formed, so Himayura and the anime producers had to promise to drop the Korea character. Surprised me, because I always thought of Koreans as laid back... But I guess they're a little sensitive about Japanese things 'mocking' Korea.

The main story line was WWII in the beginning, but there are also comic-strips of today or even more in the past. The characters in APH represent the nations of today.
Vietnam is not in the Anime. And South Korea is not in the Anime too (though you can see him in the first ending as a chibi and in episode 14. But actually he was cancelled from the Anime)

Personally I think it's a bad idea for Himaruya to draw a N. Korea character. It would be like an act of commiting a suicide. Seeing like South Koreans perceive and react about their character, I could only imagine that North Koreans' reaction would be even worse.
By the way, I SO want Himaruya to draw Japan's and Poland's relationship! Our countries have done a lot of goodness to each other (even before II WW), so I imagine them as good friends!

@2009xellos E.g. in Italy you have neo-fascist parties like Fiamma Tricolore, which also participate in "mainstream politics" (see: Election in 2008, La Destra).
You can find such groups everywhere. It doesn't matter if they are forbidden or allowed, they are still there & some of them claim not to be fascistic, so sometimes it's hard to tell.
The Hetalian characters don't represent their politics, they represent their people! So Kiku is fine the way he is, just like every other chara too!

Please may we refrain from talking about the Korea and Japanese pasts. We all remember it well. And you cannot forget the past, but you can learn from it instead! :D I myself am a S. Korean. I was born there and came to the US in middle school. But there is no need to hate on another country just because of thier past. I have plenty Japanese friends whom I love. Hetalia isn't about hating anyone, guys. It isn't even about war. In fact, war is portrayed as something ridiculously stupid. The message that pops up the most in Hetalia is accepting differences and moving on.
I love Korea. I love his character, as well as the country, people, and culture. It's a shame Korea the country didn't appreciate Korea the character.

@isaidstop You're right. I'm sorry, the reason why I started this was because some people made presumptuous remarks, such as "grow up". I was telling them there was actually a good reason why it was criticized by our government. To be honest, I'm not against Korea being in the show.

@2009xelles all the hetalia characters are made fun of in a way. So if you really have no time but to hate this anime go watch some Korean dramas like dream high, secret garden and ect.
