Kane's cinematographer, Greg Tolland, used the latest high-speed films, and developed new lens coatings to increase light transmission, which meant that he could stop the apertures down to a pinpoint. This is an amazing scene: at first it seems as though the windoiws are normal scale, until Kane walks over to them. (Other shots, such as the one with the young Kane through the window, also have astonishingly deep focus.)
Ha, the room is bigger than it seems to be; this scene is very well done.
