  • Aaaahh... I hear this at my house near a lake in Quebec, best song to fall asleep to!

  • So beautiful... This gives me shivers down my back and tears in my eyes. I long to visit such a place one day and hear this bird for myself.

  • I live in Maine, and whenever my family goes up to our camp in the summer, we always hear loons. To be honest, they scare the dickens out of me when they come out of nowhere, but they are beautiful [:

  • So frackin' creepy *shivers*

  • You should make a video at Murtle Lake near Blue River which always has a chorus of loons delivering heavenly songs.

  • Very haunting

  • this is so so so so beautiful....thank you for postin this!

  • ahhh-- ifeel much better now. thank you. sounds like Canada

  • Most beautiful sound ever

  • That's Beautiful...I never get tired of Hearing Loons....

  • This type of loon call is the most unsettling.

  • Thats one sad loon, normally when they make this sorta sound it means they're not too happy. It's a really eerie sound early in the morning when it's still dark really eerie.

  • One of my earliest memories is from 1982. I heard this very same sound inside inside my grandmother's cottage in southeastern Ontario (near Madoc) while the sun was setting. The sky was orange and pink, and I remember hearing the sound. I think I was sitting on somebody's lap. Probably my mother's. And people were puttering around like it was nothing. (They're all rednecks.) But this sound still haunts me today. It is so icy, so ethereal, so forlorn.

  • Such an eerie sound, but it's still amazing! Loons are beautiful creatures :)

  • ELK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @E22Chris lol! no

  • Nothing can sound as eerie and beautiful at once as the Loon....spirit of the wild.

  • love it, hear it all the time in muskoka

  • i find this sound incredibly creepy!

  • the eeriest most beautiful bird call!

  • just a 2 weeks ago i herd loons in person for the 1st time so butiful

  • wow very haunting

    (*chills*)

  • They make such pretty sounds...I love it at night.

  • oh my goodness...that is the most beautiful sound in the world...im litterally tearing up :') thank you!

  • Hauntingly beautiful.

  • What a chilling sound!!!

SO haunting!!! What a beautiful creature

  • i used to be able to loon call when i bad sore throats but now even when my throat is bad i can't do it :(

  • beautiful - when searching for the loon call to play for my father, who has alzheimers, i chose this one....thank you for your beautiful audio

  • @takedownmak321 You're welcome! :)

  • I think this is one of the creepiest sounds in the world, yet it comes from such a beautiful bird ! :O

  • I am happy to say that this is my state bird. I LOVE loons.

  • best one so far :3 I like that sound

Almost sounds like a wolf :P

  • I used to hear these as a little girl at night in Maine. So haunting yet so gorgeous and calming.

  • Reminds me of algonquin park in Ontario, Canada. Loon calls are hauntingly beautiful.... lying in a sleeping bag and listening to their calls (often in combination with wolves howling) is an experience I wish everyone could share.

  • I remember in the old Marathon games by Bunjie (way before Halo) they used the Loon as a background noise on certain levels. It used to freak me right the Fark out!

  • So eerie.

  • i love it so much!

One of my best friends, Holly, Taught me how to make this sound with my hands :D.

    so glad she did..

  • love loon calls. THANKS for posting.

  • Just wanted to say Thanks for all the comments! :)

  • I LOVE IT!!!!!!

  • Yes, as Nevmiles wrote it too reminds me of many wonderful times up in Georgian Bay, haunting sound and so beautiful. I am from Ireland.

  • such a great sound to wake up to when your camping in northern minnesota

  • Whenever I hear that call I always feel like the bird is destitute, like it wants something it can never have. The call is eerie and mysterious. One of my favorite things about Montana and the reason i miss it were the loons...

  • Easily one of the best sounds in the world . . . . this sound is synonymous with Ontario cottage life . . . . love it . . .

  • you and me both my friend

  • 0:08 Ever since I was little, at my cabin that particular kind of call has always filled me with fear. They may be loons but at night they sound like ghosts on the lake.

They also keep me awake at nights. :)

  • There is no better sound in the world, I am moving back to Minnesota...

  • It's the Minnesota state bird.

  • Yeah? That's cool.

It's the Canadian National bird. And it's on our money, lol

We like them, I suppose. lmao

  • Loonies. :)

  • I thought the minnesota state bird was the mosquito? lol

  • LOL.

  • What a sound! Sounds like the bird equivalent of an elk bugle!

  • It sounds like a herbivorous SPORE Creature mating call. Maxis and EA used the loon call for the SPORE Creatures' herbivore mating call.

  • Thank you all for the positive comments! Maine is such a beautiful place and the Loons make it even more so. Please check out my other video-Loon Call Part-2 for more!

  • reminds me as well of Maine, its such a pretty call. It reminds me of the calming of the lake, during the sunset. Thats when i always heard them

  • Reminds me of Maine... thanks for posting. Beautiful sounds!

  • the calls make my dad go into flashbacks

  • HOW BEAUTIFUL!

  • i could fall asleep to the sound of loons

    they are sooooo beautiful

i would love to live in the woods just to hear that all night

  • i love the loon's call... definitely erie, yet so majestic and wild. i camped up in northeast minnesota this summer and would sit out by the fire for hours just listening to that call.. as well as all the other sounds in the night of course (including the rare and distant howling of wolves). great place to experience wildlife.. nothin too special about the physical geography but the dense boreal woods is definitely a creepy place to be at night

  • honestly the best place to experience wildlife is in the BC outback here in canada, random bears, although they may be dangerous still very beautiful to see, coyotes, wolves, tons of birds

some places they are so accustomed to people they will come right up to your camp [the birds at least]

even here in calgary alberta you can walk past cemetery hill and a random coyote will walk across the street... happened to me a couple times, it just stood there looked at me then went on his way

  • fantastic!! I love the loon calls. One of nature's most beautiful sounds. I rent a cottage at a resort here in southern Ontario, Canada. Right at sunset, the loons come out and they sound amazing.

    Nevertheless, great video!

  • thats why i love canada, its my home and has far better wildlife than most other countries, i live near the mountains so i tend to hear and see animals every single time i go camping, this summer on my way back through kananaskis country i saw a black bear cub just walking on the side of the road, my bf pulled over and drove really slow so i could hang out the window and get a really good pic of it

  • wow that sounds awesome. You said you live in the mountains? Whereabouts? I've always wanted to take a trip out west and see the great plains and the rockies. I live in Brampton, Ontario, a suburb of Toronto...so we don't have much of a natural atmosphere around...but a quick 2 hour drive north or northeast, basically anywhere along the shores of the great lakes...its a totally different world...great scenery, nature, and beaches...and that's where I spend most of my summers.

  • i dont live in them, but i live right by them so i go out to the mountains alot , every summer im in the mountains camping or at shambhala

  • these birds sound so scary in a dark forest, =/

but they are beautiful though =)

  • Whats more scary is kayaking at 2am and hearing them. Now thats scary! :)

  • yeah at my cabin there pretty freaky when im trying to go to sleep but when i go in my canoe in the lake at dusk i find it really peaceful

  • I have to agree!

    It's so eerie

  • Loon sounds got to be the most interesting and spiritual things of the north country.

  • My buddy has a camp on Flying Pond. Thanks for the post; this brings back some good memories.

  • The sound that the Loon made on Pet Cemetary was more creepier.

  • don't remind me.

  • Gives me gossebumps just talkin about it.

  • God that is so effing scary waking up at night and looking out at the dark woods and hearing it

    but i love it

  • i know exactly what you mean...its scary but relaxing at the same time, i just love it

  • Beautiful sound!

  • most beautiful. thanx or posting this!

  • One of the most peaceful sounds on the earth. Thanks for posting this.

  • i concur

  • so melancholic, ghostly and yet superfluously sad.... thanks for this video

  • sound so freeking creepy

  • And is it like the land of the musk-ox in summer, when the mist rises on the lake, and the loon cries out very often?

  • Beautiful Video and LOVE the Loon call. Well done

  • Such a beautiful call-it can't described, it sounds so natural and almost prehistoric.

  • i went on a outward bound trip in the north of ontario, it was beutifull and there was a buntch of them. If you like camping its defenitly a nice place to go (we where on the missisgi river)

  • Nice.Sounds like 5 o'clock in the morning at my favorite campground in Mount Tremblant Park,Quebec(Lac Escalier).

  • My dad and i use to go to Maine fishing and always hear them that was about 27 years ago oh how i wish i could bring them back....I love and miss you dad....SONNY

  • When I spent a month in Alaska I heard two talking for hours.. A bald eagle flew nearby and they started making a different noise though.. more unjulating(sp?). It's the sound you hear most often in music that "has loons". This is their calm signal, the other one is when they're threatened.

    -The Loon September 06, 2006

  • I would love to here a loon. myself

  • i live on Coon Lake in Minnesota i hear them mostly every night the little babies are so cute i see them swim in front of my house alot

  • I used to live a Big Toad Lake in north-cental Minn. for 22 years (which I miss greatly) and I also miss the sound of the loons in the morning,

    they sure make beautiful sound.

  • yeah that is a great sound, brings back so many memories of when I went to my lake a lot when I was younger

  • thats our state bird in Minnesota and I have only heard them a few times (I need to get out of Minneapolis

  • Such a sweet sweet sound
