Good Vid, maybe a little more on the comunication department with the spotters. (Camera person and spotter combo???) It's amazing how easy this road is now....... In 1974 I went over this road in an '52 willys pick up with 'worn out' snow tires. I rode shotgun as my older brother drove. The sharp turn just right of the small water fall before the switchbacks start, used to be 'off-camber' to the down hill side so far that it was almost to the rollover point with out the cliff

Actually black Bear road isn't one way until you reach the waterfall just before the switchbacks. Even then it more of a guideline than a law. But, Black Bear is one of the most difficult trails in the San Juans. Not so much difficult as intimidating. Before you set out on any of these 4WD trails, you should read up on the ratings and go by what they say. At the very least, inquire locally as to the road conditions.

I was planning a vacation this September here. I may change my mind if there aren't any paved roads. I was gonna rent a cheapie car and enjoy the scenery.

Maybe I'll go scuba diving instead.

If we ended up dead at the bottom of the canyon, then yes, complete idiots. But, the fact that we were prepared for the unexpected and applied a solution and survived negates the idiot rating IMHO.

The 4runner could do it easily but the explorers are idiots. But I wouldn't chance body damage in either.

Thanks for the video, I've done Imogene many times but my mom won't let me try Black Bear. Now I've got to try it!

BlackBear is one way from the pass into telluride, imogene is one way from the pass into telluride.2-3 years ago a man and his wife went off in a jeep rubicon , they were big time jeepers and just made one mistake!!it cost both of them their life- sad

That road is incredible. I know, because I was driving the blue Jeep and my friend Mark was in the silver Explorer. Thanx for sharing our rescue. We were so freaked-out at the time that none of us took any pix!
