  • Thanks for the update, lodgesound. I haven't worked in tv for ten years so I haven't kept up with what's happened. I think you're right about it all being something some guy on his computer can do now. Sure, studios have their place but even major motion pictures are being made with Final Cut Pro and similar software.

I haven't looked for work in the business since then but I think you are probably right about what jobs I'd be qualified for now. I was the librarian then. Tapes now?

  • When I was made redundant (I had worked in TV post for nearly 20 years) the only job that my qualifications would allow for was stacking shelves in a supermarket or as a ticket sales person on the trains (and I'm NOT kidding).

  • You can fit nearly everything that was in this facility into a laptop computer now. Sadly the post production industry is all but extinct now as many producers can now literally edit and master their own work in edit suites which cost less than £1000. Jobs in post production in the UK now are extremely poorly paid - trainees can expect salaries of less than £10 000 and many skilled and semi-skilled professionals are now either being made redundant or simply leaving the industry altogether.

  • john its tom k this is his sons account

  • I was wondering if degaussing a TV will completely fix the problems caused by a magnet, speakers or vaccum being too close to a TV? I am going to have to fix a Panasonic CRTV. Also would having the speakers 6 to 12 inches above or away from a TV or monitor be safe?

  • I'm no expert but I don't think you want to degauss the tv. Moving the speakers away may be all you need to do. if the speakers are causing it, you should see some effect when you take them away. If they are, you need shielded speakers or have to shield the tv.

  • Impressive....my dream would be to own somewhere like this to produce my own films.

  • This was a big corporate facility so unless you had a lot of money.... ((and this was more than 10 years ago...)
