  • Am I the only one who thinks that the Intro should be for a different song, maybe for a ww2 memorial song ??

  • @freedomseeker316 Are you thinking of Green Fields of France by DKM? It's a WW1 tribute song.

  • @chinesewalmart

Green Fields of France, another song DKM ripped off and made it 'modern' (aka shite)

Here is some advice up for you, look up the version by The Fureys, a real and actually talented IRISH BAND.

  • This is a prison song. Stands to reason there'd be a punk version of it.

  • Love the random tags! XD

  • Fucking murdered this.........Yanks trying to be Paddys doesnt work

  • @cookiekooke haha, number 1 they aint tryin to be paddies, they are irish- AMERICAN, they pay homage to the culture land and tradition of their ancestors, just like i do. number 2, they rocked this song! if you dont like it, dont listen to it! glad i could help educate you friends, now have a nice day.

  • One of the ONLY groups my WHOLE family likes. Mighty be my fav song.

  • 29 people don't understand...

  • Did 15 months just got out boys... fuckin right best murphys song ever.

  • they butchered that song

  • i prefer the dubliners version but this one is ok too :D

  • Best version I've heard. I love the emotion.

  • New Irish band CASTLECOMER do an AMAZING a capella version of this song.

Check them out by typing in "The Auld Triangle - Castlecomer"

  • Is the beginning piano the melody for Will Ye Go Lassie Go?

  • porn hot ass tits whore blowjob - unrelated tags strike again xD

  • @pragmaticreality fucking knobhead

  • It says in the booklet written by Brendan Behan...Any idea who that is?

  • @Abercrombieand1Bitch Brendan Behan was a famous Irish poet. He wrote the lyrics a long time ago.

  • @Chrisler18 Oh thanks. Any ideas who wrote the music?

  • I actually like this, for what it is- Celtpunk. But of course now I'm going to go listen to a more traditional version.

  • Oh my god.... they have SLAUGHTERED a beautiful song

  • @Codarsnacht omg luke kellys version sux ass

  • @Codarsnacht lol why?

how did they SLAUGHTER it? by giving it a different feeling?

  • wow, what a way to murder a brilliant song. I like most of DM's songs - but this is just pure bollocks.

  • Its about jail... I never would have guessed if i didn't listen to the lyrics closely. Wow ima dumbass!

  • England get the fuck out of Ireland. IRA

  • yeah! from spain! we love boston!

  • Punk Rock Bleeds from my heart.

  • This version rendition takes out all the heart and feeling out of the song, no emotion, just screaming.

  • @tombnelson Its a punk song....

  • @ReservoirDog101 It shouldn't be. It's a folk song.

  • love this! used to replay it for hours to fuck with my neighbors.

  • IRISH PRIDE...Oh wait, they're american.......

  • @filthynote667 O.O They are??? I didnt know that... now I feel stupid.... Oh well. This is still the best version of The Auld Triangle. Waaaaay better than the Luke Kelly version!

  • @filthynote667

    YES!

  • This song is actually in reference to the play, "The Quare Fellow". The triangle was indeed used to wake inmates, but currently is merely displayed in the Mount Joy prison. The song is about the day an unknown prisoner at said prison (where Brendan Behan was incarcerated) was to be executed.

  • THUMBS UP FOR IRISH PRIDE!!!!

  • 21 Fucked English Bastards don't love this... fuck ya...

  • this is better than sex!!!!

  • I like the very beginning the best.

  • What is the titular "auld triangle?"

  • @hanshotfirst1138 If I remember correctly. It was a metal triangle, used in a Irish prison, the guard would hit it, (Causing the "Jingle Jangle") waking up the prisoners in the morning. My history may be off? But that's what I remember reading about it some time ago.

  • @jpd782, you're correct. The song is originally from a 1-act play called The Quare Fellow, about a man in his last hour on Death Row in Kilmainham, a notorious Gaol for Irish dissenters.

  • that doesnt even make sense

  • 19 guys have lost their auld triangle!

  • The Auld Triangleand that jingle jangle all along the banks of the royal canal. wish i was still in the Green Country

  • I have to say I have heard a few versions of this song... and this is the only one I don't really like it... I don't hate it... It just facsinates me .

  • This video has some... different... tags.

  • good cover...(the pogues version from a BBC Peel session is very well done too, n worth checkin out!)

  • an insult to the song!!! nothing more to be said.

  • love this song. so amazing

  • What's this dog about?

  • @TheWereWolfkid i assume by dog you mean song its about the mount joy prison brendan behan of the stickies was kept in, the auld triangle went jingle jangle signifies the bell used to wake the prisoners hence ( getn up out of bed boy and clean up your cell, it was written by dominik behan

  • @demonikfunk Oh, thanks. I didn't realize i'd made a typo. I read it again and i had no idea what i was talking about... Thanks for the info :)

  • Fuckin love this song

  • The dropkick murphys murder and exploit yet another classic Irish song for the dollar, for shame

  • @bohstilidie Shame that you feel so. I personally love the rendition of it. That and the fact that the song is only about 50 years old, so it's not really a "classic".

  • one of favorite songs by them. love DKM!!

  • GO BOSTON!

  • The song is about some guy who is in the IRA who attempted murder and got 14 years in prison. I don't find the punk out of place since it does have IRA roots, this song isn't as somber as the other versions, but think about it, this is how the Irish would mourn, around a brothel chock full of beer with a huge drunken catharsis.

  • Love the Murphys and this song.

Is it just me...or does seconds 19 to 35 of this song sound like something you'd hear in a Lord of The Rings movie? lol. Strangely addicting.

  • I always thought it sounded better at a higher tempo, thanks for uploading!

  • lads love the band and all but the luke kelly version was best to be honest its like the crappy metalica version of whiskey in the jar

  • @cdoyle820 u serious? those granpas almost died at stage. this version give such a positive emotions though (rock)

  • @rowerss hey man don't hate on the Dubliners the Murphys are good, but the Dubliners are the only reason Irish music survived the mid 20th century

  • @rowerss you are an idiot. they are the reason you are listening to this version right now fuck head

  • they are singing like they are celebrating being in prison which doesn't make sence. actually i think it is a crap rendition. i'd do better myself. TAL

  • This song reminds me of my days in the slammer

  • This song is really fucking beautiful.

  • listen:

to hell with fucking patriotism !

and to hell with all yer yankee so-call irish wankers!

  • serious version!!!

  • I LIKE IT

  • Ronnie Drew how we miss ya

  • I don't mean to sound like a jerk but I'm pretty sure it should be "The lad lay dreamin"

  • Definately a good song, Dropkick Murphys are definately better than Flogging Molly for sure.

  • @peisismeis I don't know if you can say they're better. There's one large difference that I think makes them stand apart. DKM has more of a punk sound where as Flogging Molly, also a Celtic Punk band have more traditional roots.

  • they have just butchered a great song by the great Brenden behan

  • Peace xD

  • have dropkick murpheys ever played in Ireland? i mean they cover enough of our fuckin songs where are they?

  • They are actually Bostonian and to my knowledge play mostly in America

  • I know there from America but with the amount of Irish covers they do you would think they would come over and play in Ireland once in a while.

  • you would think so hey?

  • @nottoberemembered Funny thing, they did in April this year. No more complaints, eh?

  • @HereticChild

Besides the fact that I was actually away when they came to play in Ireland... no complaints :)

  • theyre playin in april, tickets just gone on sale!

    10*

    ♣Éirinn go brách♣

  • Definitely my favorite DKM song

  • it's a cover :) But Dropkick Murphys make this song much better.

  • -subtract the secound "o" from "too" and my last comment might make sense.

  • this is seriously the best song i have ever herd ever ever ever ever in my life!!!!!!!!!!!

  • no, not cool man.

  • -lets not forget these songs have been around ever since the irish peoples got ahold of a major triad and the mixolydian mode...The Dubliners did not INVENT this music, Nor did The Chieftains or anyone else. These songs have been around and have been twisted and mixed and matched for hundreds of years, dropkick murphys are just showing there personal variation, no harm done.

  • Dumbass they're an homage to music, history and culture. They're are a great band who celebrate Irish culture don't read so deep into it dipshit. Accept it for what it is or stay off here. Ken Casey is God and should be the fucking President. Slainte!

  • I'm American, and I'm 1/2 Irish, and 1/4 German and Scottish. I also don't give a shit... All this uproar about who's version is better, what culture is being robbed and raped of what is ridiculous. This is music, released on a public forum known as the earth. Everyone is spouting random insults about shit that is irrelevant to the subject. By thealuminati's logic, an Asian boy of 13 shouldn't listen to a certain kind of music because he isn't aware of its roots. But along the same line

  • of logic he stands here and exposes his complete knowledge of his misinformation about a completely different culture. He has, in a few comments, turned himself into a complete hypocrite and disbarred himself as a reliable source of decent opinion, or even being capable of simple, coherent thought. A man who lives by the morale of "eye for an eye" will never accomplish his goals and thus live on becoming a black mark on society, and a disgrace of Man himself.
