yo i know its old but just wanted to point out something cool. around 1:23 when they started doing the flashy karate moves and warps and the 4 guys in front act like the people watching it on tv (cough abdc cough), i just think its awesome how at that exact moment they got the REAL audience where they want. the crowd started going NUTS! then after the 4 guys were like "see what we mean? look at what youre doing! thats what were trying to tell you!" takes a few times to get it, but its worth it
Fact is there is not really bad dancing, I think every dancer out there loves dancing and in there own way. Shaun's art of dancing is incredible but you should never downgrade other people styles. Just showcase greater ones.
ii still seing this a year after and i still pretty amazed .. one of the best sets in the world if not the best ... i see this piece like 6 time a month & always i feel inspired . & give them props ! ... this PIECE should be like written on the books of dance ! to the others generation could apreciatted !
wow I just noticed something new. In Subi's piece when the songs goes: "ask them originals, 'cause they know' the 2 groups point at Pat and Shaun! Awesome metaphor.
i hope one day i can achieve to level of connection to a song that shaun and subi achieve. you can just feel the the song bleeding through them whenever they dance. its not that they do the moves any tighter or different, but its like something deeper is coming out some how
@hopeneverdies5678 Ikr thats the first message they sent to the audience. They purposely made the last part of the choreo flashy to get out a point but nobody got it. maybe a few but there were too little. But I think the world has come to appreciate dance a little more now... well not really lol. ABDC... what? lol
i've been following subi for a little while..and i always noticed in the comments ppl compare him to shaun alot and try to give shaun credit for all of this work..im sure the piece in this performance shut all the skeptics up for good..seeing as it was a message to all of you
this crew don't dance for fame, they dance to interpret.. shaun is so good, every choreography is smooth.. he doesn't slick even just for one time,as well as with george, jeka, and pat.. i praise them.. so, two thumbs up!
I think this is for everyone a winner who understands dance, what's dancing all about. Because everyone who want's to dance or everyone who's dancing, all of them are doing 1 thing...and that is DANCE.
What I am tryna say is that everyone is dancing on his or her way, the way of their own interpretation of it. But we all have the same LOVE for it!
then it's jeka's turn to show them what dancing is. she starts her piece out with a small group, and you can see that as the song goes along, more and more people are joining in and coming to a realization. eventually, they all finally get together to and do straight choreo at 3:33. pat and shaun sit to watch the result of their revelation.
finally, pat's piece is where all the dancers dance with meaningful choreography that tells a story. continue with tina's part 5/6.
also, at the end of jeka's piece, shaun runs to the crowd with a thumbs up as if trying to say, "there you go!" and when the crowd's quiet he looks a little frustrated that they still don't get it. that's where pat's piece comes in.
starting with subi's piece, he's dancing and trying to show the rest of the dancers what, again, "REAL" dancing is. pat and shaun are pointing out to the groups on the sides, "THAT'S, how it's done." but throughout the piece, the groups show that they think it's whack. when the lyrics go, "say no," the dancers are lookin like, "nah that's not cool!" at 2:05, they run towards subi's group and walk away shaking their heads showing disinterest.
Everyone is right, nothing but respect to pat cruz and shaun evaristo. This story was down right on point, dancing isn't about the flashy moves people do. The real story and meaning behind the CHOREO will give you a trip if you understand it. Hella inspiring good shit and props to the COMPANY you guys are sick, keep rockin it.
someone posted a comment down there saying the company had the sacrifice 1st place, which is true to an extent. but i think they went into this competition to tell their story regardless if they won or not., i dont think they cared about that. and another thing is i give pat cruz and shaun alot of respect for doing something like this in a competition. takes alot of guts. when i first watched this video it looked like eveythting was all over the place.but now i understand it so well. props.
my take on this performance: i think in the first piece, when shaun is walking around the stage with the black jacket on observing the different groups of people, it represents him just going trough daily life being inspired by the simple things that are around all of us, because in interviews he said that what motivates and inspires him to choreograph is just plain LIVING and experiencing..
after :46 when he removes his jacket and starts dancing it represents him taking that newfound inspiration to the studio/stage. and when the crowd doesn't really respond, they stop dancing and look right at the audience while the lyrics say "what should i do? when can i talk to you through my antenna?" as if to say "what the hell do we have to do to get your praise?" then at 1:17 you can clearly see that shaun is angry and the other choreographers of TheCo are trying to calm him down..
at 1:22 they sit down and watch the group do a bunch of flashy dance moves as the crowd goes crazy.. and the 4 get up, and look at the audience like "what the hell? you guys clap for THAT?" then the 4 put their hands together as the lyrics say "REAL REAL REAL!" 'cause they're each about to showcase what "REAL" dancing is all about. in the second piece, at 2:12 there are a bunch of people standing around and when the lyrics go "SAY MY NAME SAY MY NAME" they all fall to the ground as-
-subi steps forward, and i think this represents the fact that subi ALWAYS does amazing choreography, but he never gets credit for it because everyone thinks it's shaun or someone else. so that was like him saying it's HIS moment to shine.. his time to stand up and be recognized for the talent that he is. the 3rd piece, to be honest i'm not to sure what it's supposed to mean LOL. but after reading everyone elses comments i think it's like a music video? idk, i need help on this one hah.
(PART 5) but the FOURTH piece, which my personal favorite, is pretty easy to figure out. the two guys with the hats are supposed to be the same person, but at a different time of life. the two on the right (guy and girl) are supposed to represent a real life scenario; him trying to get this girl. while the group dancing on the left represents him and his dancers AFTER the fact, dancing ABOUT that situation. does that make sense? like it's supposed to show that the guy took that scenario-
and creatively turned it into a dance, and even though the moves aren't flashy, it still has real meaning and a story, but most people don't see that. but SHAUN does, which is why during the piece he is sitting down watching it as it happens. HE sees the piece for more then what it is, he sees the story, what motivated it, what inspired it.. so that's why at 5:09 he gets up all and starts clapping and looks to the audience for their reaction.
it's like he's saying to the crowd "bravo! wow! did you guys see that? did you FEEL what i felt?!" and when the audience doesn't react he looks at them all disappointed because they simply just don't "get" it. the final piece is pretty simple to figure out as well. it's basically shaun displaying his frustrations. the lyrics say "IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE" which fits perfectly because the company is calling everyone out.
they wanna know: "is there anyone out there that gets us? does anyone care what's REAL anymore?" it's fucking genius. the whole performance is fucking genius. everyones already said it in the comments but i'll say it again hehe.. basically the message they're trying to convey is that they're ANGRY that people don't get their art because everyone has been blinded by gimmicks and flashy moves. nobody cares about real feeling or a story anymore and they're mad about it.
agree 100% w/ that.. but sadly most artists (whether they write, make music, or paint a canvas, etc) are frustrated w/ the bullshit they have to put up w/ too.. i applaud shaun and the co for staying true to the art of dancing and not giving a shit ab whats in today.
@tinasuckss u urself are a fucking genius for deciphering that, i woulda never thought in my life that thats what it meant becauseto be honest i watch cookies grv etc and watch the moves, and hell yeh that blinded me alot.
@tinasuckss well thought out.. i think this set should be watched by every dancer out there so that their eyes will be open to the REAL art of dance, REAL choreography, REAL movement, and not sell out like 95% of dancers do by pulling human catapults or the world's largest human snake or some shit in their sets just to get that "wow" factor. yeah you can get the wow factor and thats cool, but look deep inside and ask, am i really dancing, or just performing a circus act?
@tinasuckss I know this is old, but I just had to say major props for deciphering all of that. The way the choreo plays with the audience really is genius. However, I can't agree with the concept. There's nothing wrong with applauding for ripple effects and hyped up choreo. It's not like every dance has to tell a story. I always thought of dancers and choreographers as artists who had respect for everyone else in their field. I never thought there were elitist dancers, but I guess I was wrong
@JamMastaJeremy I feel you, but i don't think they were acting as elitists.. It's just knowing your worth. The Company has been overlooked and unappreciated for years, It's about time that they finally questioned and challenged the audience. I agree that there is nothing wrong with applauding for hyped up choreo, because let's be honest, that shit is fun and entertaining to watch. But I think it IS wrong not to clap for anything OTHER than that. --------
@JamMastaJeremy -----(cont.) Mainstream audiences have become close-minded to one style.. as proven in this video; if it's not flashy, it's not cool. How can dance progress if we're all just stuck on one style? Where is the growth? :P lol. Look, somebody had to say it. Company just had the balls to say it on a HUGE stage. It's allllll about progression, and opening up peoples' minds..
@tinasuckss it looks like they're portraying not just the music video but how choreographers put things together (that people don't usualy notice)... both shaun and pat are kinda directing people where to go and what to do... I guess their trying to show how it is behind the scenes...
@tinasuckss thanks so much tina, like everyone else here i thought everything was all over the place - but now i can see what they were really trying to show. deep as hell!
aw thank you soo much :) yeah once you start to see the story you realize what an insanely detailed set this is. it's not just movement, it's real substance. in my opinion, other teams with simply cool-looking choreography don't compare anymore. i want depth in movement, and i only get it from the company. <3
i apologize for not recognizing pat cruz being the lead director on, thats a my bad on me. So massive props to Pat Cruz and theCompany for making such a deep, spell binding, lesson routine.
holy shit ok i knew shaun was good but... my god .. its so awesome that the crowd to was able to appreciate what an awesome performance they put on too but damn man... when shaun started that last routine i could not take my eyes of him man, BEAST/GENIUS/GOD
the whole point of this set was trying to tell people that certain groups of an audience have no respect for good/decent choreography and respect for tricks and hype and shit.
hah yeah i saw that. whoever did that is an asshole. lolz. i wish i could help you out with your question and im sorry someone disliked your question. doesnt make sense to me why they would do that.
Ok after watching this several time's I'm trying to understand what the fuss is all about? when it comes to art the reaction from its audience is subjective (everyone has their own way of interpreting it. But for me, I only felt that this piece lacked to cohesively fit together to paint a whole scenario. The intention was definitely there, but maybe not in it's execution. That's the fun part I guess about art "you don't always get it right. Even Fosse failed many times when he was big
Shaun always come up with something Brand new that sometimes we dont understand. However if we see with his view, it is really amazing and Inspiring what he's trying to say with his Dance whether you dance or not.
It feels like, his soul; himself trying to say his thoughts about his dance. and We give lots of applause for it. :)
hm...so...after seeing this vid like 20 times, and reading the comments below...and i still dont get it! can somebody explain the concept to me? (and yeah why is that girl on the ground?)
listen to the lyrics: "third world countries just can't find water..." or something like that. she faints cuz she can't survive without water. this first piece sets up the mood of the whole set. theCOMPANY's trying to portray that they always offer the audience something different, something deeper than just choreo but they're never recognized for it. all people care about are the flashy moments (i.e roll offs).
harder to breathe is pretty self-explanatory: "is there anyone out there cuz it's getting harder and harder to breathe..." they're letting out all their frustration because even though they show all these concepts and make you think outside your box, they're just never understood no matter what they do. MAIN MESSAGE: "when will you open your minds and recognize what we do and have to offer and appreciate it?"
quick question, at :55, why is she just laying there during the piece... ive watched this several times, and I still dont understand the point of her doing that. someone mind giving an explanation please?
the company.....gotta give mad props for putting a piece like this together. i honestly didn't understand what was going on cuz i saw this backstage on a tv screen that was following shaun close up the whole time, but once i saw the whole thing....it all made more sense. i might be wrong as well...but i think they're trying to point out that everyone is all about the theme and theatrics to the point that its taking away from the simple art of dancing to beat.
i also think thats what they were trying to say as well as saying they are always giving new concepts to the dance community and they arent being recognized for it.
The Company always makes me believe something. Shaun as a visionary is so beyond my thoughts when he puts pieces together. These things blow my mind consistently. Keep doing this REAL work!!
i come back to this vid like every week to gauge peoples interpretations , its cool to see. . Looking at pats piece again , I got the feeling that he was trying to express the idea of dancing when he younger and dancing when he is older.
pat i feel like represented himself back in the day , when things were less complicated and people just danced for fun with friends , or maybe to impress a girl. And it didn't matter what people thought. he did if for himself
where george representing the grown up version of pat where he is dancing to make a living, and now he dances for all the people who look up to him and kind of realizes that he can't go back to those simple days. perhaps im off lol
Dude, I think it's actually George is dancing to impress the fans out there and Pat is actually dancing to express his feelings. And at the end, it shows that when u dance to express u get something back in return other then impressing.
I might be wrong too... Don't hate me! Just trying to share. =)
I love all this interpretations of this piece and everything, and I sure don't disagree with any of it, but after reading all this some questions have come to me. If we were all to go with the general opinions shown here, should we all start hating on bboys now? I personally believe that the use of flashy moves is perfectly fine and innocent--so long as it doesn't take away the audience's appreciation of other aspects.
I'd like to see input of others on this, (esp pat/shaun)
yeah, i was thinking about the bboys too...and i dont really know man...bboying actaullay is all about those flashy moves, but the thing about many bboys, that i've noticed, is that...they just pull of a whole lot of sick moves, without really hitting the beat at all...but of course, there are bboys out there who fuse their moves with the music....but i don't really have any good arguments at all when it comes to bboys, and i would actually like to hear some opinions from others
The thing about bboying is using it to mainly battle though, and when you're competing, pulling big moves definitely has its pluses. However, bboying is more about hitting beats and being creative. you get way more props for pulling a freeze on a hard beat than doing it outta the blue. bboys like katsu and born dont have many flash moves but make up for it by creativity. If you have time search all area crew vs top 9. katsu is the first to go out in blue, you will understand when you watch him.
this may be kind of a shock to many if not all of whoevers reading this....but the real brainchild behind all of this is pat. he doesn't mind that you think its shaun...he thinks its cool actually...mostly funny tho. i guess its considered a compliment if you make something and credit is given as genius...even if its to the wrong person.
shaun does guide pat and he takes in every input that shaun gives...but pat did orchestrate EVERYTHING...even the blocking of shauns piece.
Look back at 1:24 - 1:37. This piece was meant to show how everyone's become influenced by flashy dance moves, and look at how the audience reacted, they loved it! TheCompany has never incorporated ripples into their pieces before, so this is a first, and Shaun was meaning to make a statement with it. Remember how the four in front just looked back at the audience, as if saying "whats the point?". Evaristo genius. REAL REAL REAL!
thanks for digging deeper! :P and yea, i totally agree with you about the ripple. i mean, i see alot of people using ripples nowadays, which of course looks dope. but, the thing is that...dance is starting to kinda become more like a videogame for many people nowadays...like, more and more people are starting to dance out of the wrong reason. "oh, look, i can do this move and this move, oh that move is not that cool" is probably how some people are thinking nowadays, if you know what i mean
the reason why i said dancing is becoming more and more like a videogame, is because of the fact that people are becoming more obsessed with flashy moves. like, when u play streetfighter...u don't want to do a simple right hand punh, u wanna do the flashy combos with all those backflips and stuff...
...now, what i just said might not make any sense to anyone...most of the time, i just say stuff without really explaining what i mean properly...but hopefully, someone gets me :P
Wuzumaki'ss interpretation is pretty much right on the spot..
What TheCompany was doing for this competition wasn't just to try and compete to win, Shaun wanted to show the audience, as well as the dance community, that its not all about "flashy moves" or attention grabbing effects other groups put out there. There's a deeper meaning and concept to it, and he's showing his frustration with how the world interprets dance right now.
the company might not have so many flashy moves, but in my opinion, they're one of the few crews out there that's still very expressive when they dance...they probably dont even need music when they dance, because their dancing pretty much tells a story for itself :P
and that's why we (or at least I) love the company
every dance team needs music. the company obviously made their specific music choices for a reason. try watching their their video without sound and you're not even getting a quarter of what they're trying to express.
not trying to burn, but don't try to make up something to feel smart.
what you're saying is true, but there's also a reason why i put ":P" right after i said that they don't need music.
of course every dancer needs music...it's the music that makes you dance in the first place, and that's when you're expressing yourself. so what i said about dancing to no music, wasn't something i ment literally.
my point is that, the company is not a crew that just puts together a lot of different moves that they think that other people think is "dope"...
...but they're like more expressive...it's like poetry in motion (yeah, i know that one soundes kinda cheesy :P)...they dance more with their heart, and less with their brain "which is something more and more people tend to do nowadays).
but yeea.. what i'm saying is might be wrong, because i'm not a dance judge or someone big in the dance industry.
what i said about dancing to no music wasn't something i ment literally, even though it might sound stupid no matter how you interpret it
a lot of people is probably wondering how the company made it to the second place...well, the answer is not really that simple...i mean...look at all the other crews...nice moves, right on point...not to mention flashy! there were so many other dope crews that didn't make it to the to 3...and that's probably because they didn't have a solid story line. people nowadays tend to only see the moves the way they're being executed, and not actually the thought behind the move.
ok, i understood a little bit of it, i liked it and all but the thing that was annoying me, were the 2 guys running around as if they were directing the performance. I was like,"get the fuck out of the way you 2, im tryna watch them dance"....im not hating for those of you who read this, but i liked this dancebit!
Those two guys were choreographers Shaun Evaristo and Pat Cruz. And what they were doing (well atleast for that piece) was showing the audience how hard choreo groups like them work at their routines, cleaning formations, pointing out their likes/dislikes, and DIRECTING the group. Understand that please before making a comment like this again, especially if you trying to not look like your hating.
i guess people can have shitty messy sets now but still place high just because they have a good message.....wtf is that shit..?

(PART 5) but the FOURTH piece, which my personal favorite, is pretty easy to figure out. the two guys with the hats are supposed to be the same person, but at a different time of life. the two on the right (guy and girl) are supposed to represent a real life scenario; him trying to get this girl. while the group dancing on the left represents him and his dancers AFTER the fact, dancing ABOUT that situation. does that make sense? like it's supposed to show that the guy took that scenario-
tinasuckss 2 years ago 15
(PART 6)
and creatively turned it into a dance, and even though the moves aren't flashy, it still has real meaning and a story, but most people don't see that. but SHAUN does, which is why during the piece he is sitting down watching it as it happens. HE sees the piece for more then what it is, he sees the story, what motivated it, what inspired it.. so that's why at 5:09 he gets up all and starts clapping and looks to the audience for their reaction.
tinasuckss 2 years ago 15
(PART 7)
it's like he's saying to the crowd "bravo! wow! did you guys see that? did you FEEL what i felt?!" and when the audience doesn't react he looks at them all disappointed because they simply just don't "get" it. the final piece is pretty simple to figure out as well. it's basically shaun displaying his frustrations. the lyrics say "IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE" which fits perfectly because the company is calling everyone out.
tinasuckss 2 years ago 29
(PART 8)
they wanna know: "is there anyone out there that gets us? does anyone care what's REAL anymore?" it's fucking genius. the whole performance is fucking genius. everyones already said it in the comments but i'll say it again hehe.. basically the message they're trying to convey is that they're ANGRY that people don't get their art because everyone has been blinded by gimmicks and flashy moves. nobody cares about real feeling or a story anymore and they're mad about it.
tinasuckss 2 years ago 40
(PART 9)
alright i'm done lol. i know i'm late but i just had to give my thoughts.. major props to pat cruz and the rest of the company.
tinasuckss 2 years ago 14
agree 100% w/ that.. but sadly most artists (whether they write, make music, or paint a canvas, etc) are frustrated w/ the bullshit they have to put up w/ too.. i applaud shaun and the co for staying true to the art of dancing and not giving a shit ab whats in today.

XzaLLeNT 1 year ago 2
@tinasuckss I know this is old, but I just had to say major props for deciphering all of that. The way the choreo plays with the audience really is genius. However, I can't agree with the concept. There's nothing wrong with applauding for ripple effects and hyped up choreo. It's not like every dance has to tell a story. I always thought of dancers and choreographers as artists who had respect for everyone else in their field. I never thought there were elitist dancers, but I guess I was wrong
JamMastaJeremy 1 year ago
@JamMastaJeremy I feel you, but i don't think they were acting as elitists.. It's just knowing your worth. The Company has been overlooked and unappreciated for years, It's about time that they finally questioned and challenged the audience. I agree that there is nothing wrong with applauding for hyped up choreo, because let's be honest, that shit is fun and entertaining to watch. But I think it IS wrong not to clap for anything OTHER than that. --------
tinasuckss 1 year ago
@JamMastaJeremy -----(cont.) Mainstream audiences have become close-minded to one style.. as proven in this video; if it's not flashy, it's not cool. How can dance progress if we're all just stuck on one style? Where is the growth? :P lol. Look, somebody had to say it. Company just had the balls to say it on a HUGE stage. It's allllll about progression, and opening up peoples' minds..

Honestly...
It's just my Opinion ~ ^^

hm...so...after seeing this vid like 20 times, and reading the comments below...and i still dont get it! can somebody explain the concept to me? (and yeah why is that girl on the ground?)
nijntjehpluis 2 years ago 2
listen to the lyrics: "third world countries just can't find water..." or something like that. she faints cuz she can't survive without water. this first piece sets up the mood of the whole set. theCOMPANY's trying to portray that they always offer the audience something different, something deeper than just choreo but they're never recognized for it. all people care about are the flashy moments (i.e roll offs).
wfambam 2 years ago
(cont'd)
harder to breathe is pretty self-explanatory: "is there anyone out there cuz it's getting harder and harder to breathe..." they're letting out all their frustration because even though they show all these concepts and make you think outside your box, they're just never understood no matter what they do. MAIN MESSAGE: "when will you open your minds and recognize what we do and have to offer and appreciate it?"

the company.....gotta give mad props for putting a piece like this together. i honestly didn't understand what was going on cuz i saw this backstage on a tv screen that was following shaun close up the whole time, but once i saw the whole thing....it all made more sense. i might be wrong as well...but i think they're trying to point out that everyone is all about the theme and theatrics to the point that its taking away from the simple art of dancing to beat.
heyceemylebret 2 years ago 2
i also think thats what they were trying to say as well as saying they are always giving new concepts to the dance community and they arent being recognized for it.

i come back to this vid like every week to gauge peoples interpretations , its cool to see. . Looking at pats piece again , I got the feeling that he was trying to express the idea of dancing when he younger and dancing when he is older.
pat i feel like represented himself back in the day , when things were less complicated and people just danced for fun with friends , or maybe to impress a girl. And it didn't matter what people thought. he did if for himself
k04sk 2 years ago 2
where george representing the grown up version of pat where he is dancing to make a living, and now he dances for all the people who look up to him and kind of realizes that he can't go back to those simple days. perhaps im off lol
hope that makes sense lol
k04sk 2 years ago 2
makes a lot of sense. to me this set is up to interpretation. watch listen and question right? haha. that is a good take on it. i like it.
okayplayer002 2 years ago
Dude, I think it's actually George is dancing to impress the fans out there and Pat is actually dancing to express his feelings. And at the end, it shows that when u dance to express u get something back in return other then impressing.
I might be wrong too... Don't hate me! Just trying to share. =)
BuddyHoly 2 years ago 3
to me, it just seems that that piece shows how choreography can/should be percieved and what can motivate its creation.
Vinco 2 years ago
I love all this interpretations of this piece and everything, and I sure don't disagree with any of it, but after reading all this some questions have come to me. If we were all to go with the general opinions shown here, should we all start hating on bboys now? I personally believe that the use of flashy moves is perfectly fine and innocent--so long as it doesn't take away the audience's appreciation of other aspects.
I'd like to see input of others on this, (esp pat/shaun)
fir3fli 2 years ago
yeah, i was thinking about the bboys too...and i dont really know man...bboying actaullay is all about those flashy moves, but the thing about many bboys, that i've noticed, is that...they just pull of a whole lot of sick moves, without really hitting the beat at all...but of course, there are bboys out there who fuse their moves with the music....but i don't really have any good arguments at all when it comes to bboys, and i would actually like to hear some opinions from others
wuzumaki 2 years ago
The thing about bboying is using it to mainly battle though, and when you're competing, pulling big moves definitely has its pluses. However, bboying is more about hitting beats and being creative. you get way more props for pulling a freeze on a hard beat than doing it outta the blue. bboys like katsu and born dont have many flash moves but make up for it by creativity. If you have time search all area crew vs top 9. katsu is the first to go out in blue, you will understand when you watch him.
rfizzle 2 years ago
i see where your coming from... but bboying is not only about flashy moves.
just like the company's message is to dance with emotions, to the beat etc.
bboying has "become" about flashy moves just like hip hop choreo.
i dont see many bboys just do some nice clean top rock, six step etc

MichaeIX 2 years ago 4
this may be kind of a shock to many if not all of whoevers reading this....but the real brainchild behind all of this is pat. he doesn't mind that you think its shaun...he thinks its cool actually...mostly funny tho. i guess its considered a compliment if you make something and credit is given as genius...even if its to the wrong person.
shaun does guide pat and he takes in every input that shaun gives...but pat did orchestrate EVERYTHING...even the blocking of shauns piece.

Continuing from what I was saying...
REAL REAL REAL!
that1flipdude 2 years ago 4
thanks for digging deeper! "oh, look, i can do this move and this move, oh that move is not that cool" is probably how some people are thinking nowadays, if you know what i mean
wuzumaki 2 years ago 4
the reason why i said dancing is becoming more and more like a videogame, is because of the fact that people are becoming more obsessed with flashy moves. like, when u play streetfighter...u don't want to do a simple right hand punh, u wanna do the flashy combos with all those backflips and stuff...
...now, what i just said might not make any sense to anyone...most of the time, i just say stuff without really explaining what i mean properly...but hopefully, someone gets me :P
wuzumaki 2 years ago 5
Thumbs up for the street fighter analogy. haha
robin7even 2 years ago 3
Wuzumaki'ss interpretation is pretty much right on the spot..
What TheCompany was doing for this competition wasn't just to try and compete to win, Shaun wanted to show the audience, as well as the dance community, that its not all about "flashy moves" or attention grabbing effects other groups put out there. There's a deeper meaning and concept to it, and he's showing his frustration with how the world interprets dance right now.
that1flipdude 2 years ago 3
i agree with wuzumaki. yee

part 2
the company might not have so many flashy moves, but in my opinion, they're one of the few crews out there that's still very expressive when they dance...they probably dont even need music when they dance, because their dancing pretty much tells a story for itself :P
and that's why we (or at least I) love the company
wuzumaki 2 years ago 4
every dance team needs music. the company obviously made their specific music choices for a reason. try watching their their video without sound and you're not even getting a quarter of what they're trying to express.
not trying to burn, but don't try to make up something to feel smart.
chrisomg 2 years ago
what you're saying is true, but there's also a reason why i put ":P" right after i said that they don't need music.
of course every dancer needs music...it's the music that makes you dance in the first place, and that's when you're expressing yourself. so what i said about dancing to no music, wasn't something i ment literally.
my point is that, the company is not a crew that just puts together a lot of different moves that they think that other people think is "dope"...
wuzumaki 2 years ago
...but they're like more expressive...it's like poetry in motion (yeah, i know that one soundes kinda cheesy :P)...they dance more with their heart, and less with their brain "which is something more and more people tend to do nowadays).
but yeea.. what i'm saying is might be wrong, because i'm not a dance judge or someone big in the dance industry.
what i said about dancing to no music wasn't something i ment literally, even though it might sound stupid no matter how you interpret it
wuzumaki 2 years ago
Part 1
a lot of people is probably wondering how the company made it to the second place...well, the answer is not really that simple...i mean...look at all the other crews...nice moves, right on point...not to mention flashy! there were so many other dope crews that didn't make it to the to 3...and that's probably because they didn't have a solid story line. people nowadays tend to only see the moves the way they're being executed, and not actually the thought behind the move.

ok, i understood a little bit of it, i liked it and all but the thing that was annoying me, were the 2 guys running around as if they were directing the performance. benne1016 2 years ago
