World of Warcraft took a lot of ideas from Everquest, but they done it a million times better, the reason MMO's today are uninnovative is because they follow almost exactly the same formula as WoW, there's a few MMO's that are different enough from WoW, like Star Trek Online, but even that game isn't that great.

@TehJedicake world of warcraft's big innovation was allowing you to progress through the game entirely through questing without having to grind, which was very innovative at the time, even if it was built on the foundation of popular elements from everquest that people liked and wanted.

When you say today's games aren't innovative what you mean is that they're not unique, because everything does not have to be different for something to be innovative.

Did you start with wow? If so I can understand your viewpoint better, because then you missed out on all the now-dated alternative mmorpg styles.that really weren't as good. even though NexusTK, AC, RO, AO and CoH were all great fun, for their time. ;)

Though.. if asheron's call 2 didn't totally botch it I think they'd have been able to secure around as much playerbase as everquest 2. Tera's coming out soon, korean mmo action rpg, might interest you. Hopefully planetside 2 is good, 1 rocked, I was everyone's favorite thumper specialist/medic/vanguard driver. >:)
