Hey, I just recently became a proud owner of the samsung galaxy s (partially due to watching this review). I've been playing around with the phone for a while now, and cant seem to replicate the problem you have with the black screens eventhough our galaxy's seem identical (Firmware+Os). However, i may have a solution (68% chance). U could download this app called "App Killer". Does what it says and its free. Make sure you add essential Apps to the Ignore list ;)

@rarkid I think thats just yours. Mine doesn't heat up unless heavy duty is performed when charging. Even then, the temperature doesn't raise concern. Its normal for an electrical device to heat up! Just try not to grip it too tightly ;P

@fatbohi It almost never happens, and if it does only for about 3sec! :P In addition, samsung will be updating to the new andriod "Froyo 2.2" which will up the performance 5x (so they say) but the phone is truly amazing. I can confidently say that this is the best android phone on the current market. The only disadvantage i find, is the rediculous naming of the phone OS . The heck is "FROYO"!?!?! or "Eclair" tryna say ?

I've had 7 samsung phones and all were massive POS!

This looks like more of the same from samsung, The touch wiz interface has to go, NOW. It seems this phone is just the same as previous models, only this time they actually put a processor that can handle the slow clunky touch wiz iu.

I can see having to exchange this phone several times due to screen and software problems, let alone, samsung being known for next to zero support and having next to zero software/application updates

Does the Galaxy S have a built-in function to prevent it from automatically connecting and reconnecting to WAP? My handset started doing that after my first web browsing. I've downloaded some apps/task killer whatchamacallits from the Android market, but all they do is stop web-enabled apps like Gmail, Youtube and whatnot, but not the WAP connection itself - the GPRS?EDGE symbol kept popping up the top half of the screen. Sorry, I'm a bit of an idiot on these things :-(

@Cali5556 the Edge, GPRS or 3G logo (H) should always be there when you -can- connect :) That doesn't mean it's constantly doing things but it sure can ;) If you want to be realllly sure it s not doing anything , like abroad, look for an 'APN widget' in the Market

Because you said they showed you *a* phone with the new FW at samsung but most people experience the lags after some time of phone use, not right out of the box. I just want to be sure that this is not a HW problem (some people thinks that its because te internal memory type) and can be fixed with SW updates.

Hi, I understand multitasking is available on Android OS, but how easy/difficult is it to switch between applications? For ex. if you're halfway through composing a text message and need to get into the gallery, how do you do it? In the Desire, while in the text editor, you can long press on the home button and it presents you with the last 6 open apps. Is something similar available here?

I like your review, its fun to watch. You're right about the stalls and blank screens. There is currently a workaround to this issue which is easily done when you're rooted; also, as you said the newer firmwares do improve on this issue a lot but do not erradicate it. The fix for this consists in moving the application data files to the faster nand chip in the phone, resulting in a much faster and more responsive phone, but leaving yhou a bit short on that fast nand memory...
