  • DMA will neverrrr be the same without him :/

  • Still miss him.. deeply

  • @Logg66 Hi, not a day goes by that I don't miss George Parks and I know the entire UMass Community feels the same way. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and have a very happy new year.

  • The marching band is the Power and Class of New England but Mr.Parks was the Power and Class of the band. The biggest loss is to those who will never know him or experience him in person, to experience his electrifying personality.

  • I can only hope that in my career (I'm a Music Ed. student) I can follow in his footsteps and have even half the impact in my students lives and in our band community as Mr. Parks has had. He was a great man, in every sense of the word. He has passed the proverbial baton to all the lives he has touched, and the world is truly a better place having had the privilege of knowing George Parks. May we continue his legacy with power, with class, and above all With Pride. See you on the other side.

  • George Parks was an amazing person and touched the lives of so many - I know that he changed my life forever and that was twenty years ago. Thank you for everything, George.

  • Mr. Parks was a leader and an inspiration. I knew I joined a great organization when on Day 1 of Fall '93 band camp he called me (and all newbies) out by name to introduce us. On Day 1, he knew our names; in an organization as big as it was (and still is), he made everyone feel welcome from the first moment. UMass band was (and is) an incredible organization that benefited from the awesome, charismatic leadership of Mr. Parks. He will be greatly missed.

    Thank you, Mr. Parks.

  • It's sad that it takes the death of one of the greatest men anyone could meet, to bring viewers to this video.

  • awww........RIP GEORGE PARKS!! This is such a great video. My prayers are with all who loved him!!

  • rip.. truly and inspirational man to anyone who's ever met him

  • Such a light. He'll be sorely missed.

  • RIP to a respected legend. 'Eyes: With Pride!'

  • Wow!!! This is hard to believe!

Most sincere condolences to the Parks family as well as the Buccaneers Drum & Bugle Corps Organization, University of Massachusetts and friends. It has been my honor to have been a personal friend as well as competitor over many years.

George was only 57 years old.... I'm still at a loss for words.

    Godspeed my friend...

  • Rest in peace, Mr. Parks. You left much too early. Even though my son never went to UMASS, thank you so much for the compliments that I repeatedly heard that you extended to him every year at MICCA. Now you have that big band upstairs to direct. Show 'em how it's done!

  • Congrats, Mr, Parks -- You deserve it. Thanks for everything you gave us. Geary Allen (UMMB 1983-1986)

  • He's awesome. His reaction to the email reminds me of his Lucky the Leperechuan (sp?) rant at DMA... which was hilarious. :D

  • I have such great respect for George Parks and his teaching style

  • he's the guest conductor for all cape for the band im in
