The pleasure of love lasts only a moment The pain of love lasts a lifetime. I gave up everything for ungrateful Sylvia, She is leaving me for another lover. The pleasure of love lasts only a moment, The pain of love lasts a lifetime. "As long as this water will run gently Towards this brook which borders the meadow, I will love you", Sylvia told me repeatedly. The water still runs, but she has changed. The pleasure of love lasts only a moment, The pain of love lasts a lifetime.

The West has Nana Mouskouri & the East has Teresa Teng. They both hv gifted singing talent & diversity in languages. On top of Mandarin, Cantonese, Chinese dialects, TT sings in Japanese, English, Indonesian, Vietnamese. Can't agree a word, simply check out 3 of Teresa's English songs:
Feels so darn romantic. The feeling is contrary to real life experience. You dream of dating a Caucasian and if you are an Indian, it remains as a dream forever!
World is very ordinary. Still very ordinary. It will remain this way for generations to come.
It's ironical to have a beautiful singer sing a beautiful voice for a beautiful song which expreses an ugly fact ! The pleasure of passion persists but a moment, but the plight of passion persists for lifelong !
schon, belle voix, pain, chagrin for a lifetime ! what truth ! 愛帶來一生痛苦 ! see the mouth crying in the last Chinese character ! what pain of love ! just laugh at your pain, that's all !
This very delicate song tells the truth about love and being in love..... for being in love means at times being in pain and that pain can last a lifetime. Pain is defined as remembering an action that we dislike.... and that can hurt more than physical pain.
Giovanni Martini first wrote this (I think), Elvis sang it, but Nana makes it seem to come from the above . She has talent and grace. Where ever this song came from (1700's I presume) she has brought it to life as it should be. Long live this wonderful, talented woman!
You are right. Jean Paul Martini (1741-1816) wrote this song. He was one of Mozart´s teachers, working in Italy. I have to perform this song soon, so I searched for it on youtube and Nana does it beautifully with so much feeling! I hope I´ll be able to touch people´s feelings in a similar way..
The perfomrance will be on April 27th, if possible I will put the video here. Anyway, I will dedicate the song to my grandfather who died 2 months ago and adored Nana - and especially this song. *sigh*
It was written by Giovanni Battista Martini...........not Elvis Presly....you jerk!...abt 200 years ago....you dimwit nutcake...you boarfeathered...coggle brained barnacle.
ih eard this song on a cruise one of thompson cruises and wow it blew me outta my seat, whenever i hear this song now i think of one of the dancers i had a ssoft spot for, she was dancing to this song sooo nice i jsut found out what the lyrics are n they are sad
the best versions by a female singer most singer sing only the Refrain in French or in English, wich is very easy to sing, bit Nana Mouskouri sing the whole song which is not easy (.. j'ai tout quité pour la belle Sylvie etc..thw whole song has three Octaves!)
Baez certainly could have vocally handled the complete song but prefers the folk incarnation. When they duet on it (on youtube), it's quite obvious who has the VOICE. Note how Joan is being sweetly generous and trying to showcase NM, even to the point of playing her guitar more quietly and later even stopping entirely to help out NM.
nice

Nana was a favorite of mine from when I was a kid; a great but now largely forgotten singer who was great in many languages.
Speaking of which, it must grate the French one of their greatest pop and folk singers is Greek.
Viva Nana.
