He makes up a story about being a poor kid and wanting only money and no grade, and that he had a deal with some other rich kid say Harry, that he'd write his paper for him. So the professor, accepts Joe's paper (thinking it's Harry's and thinking that the Harry submitted Joe's paper) on one condition, that Harry would be graded by whatever paper Harry submitted and Joe would be graded by whatever paper Joe submitted.
