  • I think the movie is a comment on what are society has become. More to the point what kind of people our government is creating. If Anton is a vietnam vet then he has been trained to kill. Drugs are illegal driving the price up to the point of people killing for them. The sheriff is shocked of how psychotic someone could be. Good old US of A. Point is there will be more Antons coming around a neighborhood near you.

  • Theres some good lines in this movie: 'You have any of them french fried potaters?'

  • "Probably I don't"

"That's a dead dog" "Yes it is"

"If it ain't, it'll do till the mess gets here."

Three lines from the same scene that have managed to make their way into my daily speech (yes, the second line is from earlier in the film, but it's still the same shootout scenery, thus the same scene.. gr.).

  • tommy lee's from texas you dumb fuck

  • tommy lee, why do you thinx of that phony, dubya

he aint no great country man

  • Uh, what?

  • huh

  • Even tho the rest wasnt, 3:10-end lmao!

  • what was the whole coin toss segment about? I haven't seen the movie

  • basically if the person calls the wrong side of the coin he flips, he kills them

  • one of the most tasteful rated R movies I've ever seen, and one of the greatest movies I've ever seen in general.

  • Great movie! Definitely recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

  • This movie is terrific. So good. Love it.

  • It would be difficult to tell who is the lead as it is about the three men and what connects them. I guess thats why the award was for best supporting, as there was no real lead in the film as it is.

  • Bardem is possibly the best bad guy I've ever seen;only guy that scared me as much was Dennis Hopper in "Blue Velvet"

  • "F**k that s**t!! PABST BLUE RIBBON!"

    Great movie.

  • Ahh...a fellow traveler....you always remember a "good" bad guy.Dennis Hopper, like Javier Bardem, had the ability to terrify you even through your awareness that it was "just a movie"

  • @mrbriscoe2001 I came to pretty much the same conclusion. Bardem's Chigurh reminded me of a flesh and blood version of the original Terminator.

  • lol "I think we're lookin' at more 'n one fracas."

  • im with andrewdemott that would be cool if he heals

  • I really thought Lewellen (spelling) was the central character. I didnt expect him to die, not after he so openly threatened Chigurh (once again, spelling?) and fought with him. I thought his wife would die instead.

  • i think he would do that to check to see if he got any blood on his feet

  • Gamerock 930 sorry I meant his wife, I forgot her name hahaha.

  • haha yea that's carla jean....and i'm 99% sure Chigurh kills her in the end (checking his feet before he left, as he would do with the previous murders)

  • what happened to mr. chigurgh wrist injuries , what. did they healed and left no scars after a couple of days. check when he is injecting himself in the hotel room , the wrists are clean. what a mistake for such a great movie, i love it thought

  • Maybe it adds to his inhuman mystique? He heals impossibly fast - makes him all the more unrelenting and scary.

  • well said SpringSauce.....people are so upset with the ending....what did you expect? Lewellyn and Anton would meet again face to face, Lewellyn kills him and makes off with his money and retires in the bahamas with Carla Jean? Too typical and lame....the ending was brilliant. The sheriff retires and is upset in the end because even if Chigurgh was caught/killed it will not change the "war" of drugs and violence in America....which is really what this movie is all about.

  • And actually it is never known if Llewellyn dies, she might have just gotten lucky and survived

  • i'm so aggrivated by people who don't understand the ending, be they country cousins who think it insults their "culture", or city dwellers educated beyond their intelligence.

  • def a breath of fresh air. i like this movie b/c the more times you watch it the more you understand and appreciate and pick up on the subtle things in the movie. Not gonna lie tho, the 1st time i watched it i didnt really understand the last half hr.

  • i love the ending, it gives me chills.. this movie ends the way a good book does, not like a bullshit hollywood movie...

  • exactly! it wasnt a happy ending. were too used to that. brilliant ending.

  • it was a happy ending for me ^_^ I was rooting for Anton the whole way.

  • (In disgust) how dare you!

  • guess what idiot.. this movie is special.. not just another gay hollywood fuck.

  • i'd bet my life the coens are far more intelligent individuals than you are, and make far better movies than you can even dream of

  • Maybe next time there'll be an ending where everything is clear and obvious, and everyone is happy, with little fluffy bunnies all around, just for you.

  • you're so far off base, you aren't even in the ballpark anymore...

sheriff bell IS the main character...

you ought to know a little something before you go spouting off, junior...

you are the one with your head in your rectus.

so hush now, and let grown folks talk...

  • the whole film is his speculation on the degenerate aspect of america and violence and how progression goes hand in hand with degression... go read the book

  • I agree with you, but I don't think the ending necessarily makes it a bad movie. Also... why curse at people you'll never meet? It hardly makes people respect your opinion.

  • You dumbass, the main character is Tommy, if you didn't get that you have no idea what the movie was about

  • i would say the main character is actually Anthon, yeah the bad guy, cause all the movie revolves around him, and beacuse he outlives everyone and everything.

but that's just my point of view, perhaps there is more than just one main character...

  • Good point, you retard. That's why Javier Bardem (who plays Anton) got an osacr for Actor in a SUPPORTING Role becuase he is the main character in the movie. You fucking dumdass. The main actor is ED TOM BELL!

  • I diagree. I think Tommy Lee Jone's character was not as central to the story as Javier Bardem's. Jones was the main observer but not the plot driver. I don't think Jones should be considered the main character just because he is narrating and offering reflections on the events. I would actually go so far to say that Jones's role was unnecessary, and Bardem's award as a "supporting actor" is flawed. And why the need to be so openly hostile?

  • hey, the fact that lewellyn got shot by the mexicans wasn't shitty,it was actually different.

if u can't stand original stuff then stop going to cinemas

  • it actually makes perfect sense. everyone knew that lewellen was in over his head except lewellen, and of course us the audience who always wants to see the good guy win. the fact is, lewellen was in WAY over his head and he was greedy.

  • god tht scene with the coin toss freaks me out. he's just so deadpan, and im always expecting it to come up wrong. tht scene has so much tension and is so brilliantly creepy!! anton chigur is, without a doubt, the best villain ever created

  • agreed, he is the ultimate bad-ass!

  • no!! he is just the sherif.

  • He's a book nutjob. THIS IS AN AWESOME BOOK.

  • you're right. but if you want a book that'll really pin your ears back, read cormac mccarthy's masterpiece, "blood meridian".

  • Tommy Lee Jones is great in roles like this.Cohen Brothers---gotta love their movies

  • how end this movie???

  • you what say? what????

  • hahahahah

  • Javier is now my favorite movie nut job.

  • Charlie Prince is pretty good too.

  • Amazing movie. Really a masterpiece

  • I think llelyn says to say hi to his mom because he already knows deep down that hes gonna be taken out and its a way of letting his wife know. Say hi to my mom - she's dead - well then I'll tell her myself

  • I just realized that when his wife dies....she could always say hi too, haha. Kinda funny.

Hey, wife, your going to die, so am I, but look...We Got MONEY!!!

  • dude i was so scared for that old guy in the theater

  • in some parts it seem irish or scottish

  • The scene there with the guy in the store is absolutely awesome.

  • why would lewellen tell carla jean to tell his mother he loves her if he knows shes dead

  • what kind of accent does chigurh have? i can never really place it

  • great movie!

    he is from spain

  • javier bardem is from spain. his accent in this film is definitely not spanish

  • yes it is. what do you think spanish people speak spanish... where do you think conquired latin america? and the why they speak spanish??

the difference is that latin america have different accent"castellano" is more what is called.

  • yes it is. what do you think spanish people speak spanish... where do you think conquired latin america? and the why they speak spanish??

the difference is that latin america have different accent"castellano" is more what is called.

  • i know what a spanish accent is, and i know how javier bardem talks in real life. though he lapses into spanish occasionally, he was definitely not doing his own accent in this film.

  • His accent is supposed to be some form of midwest Native American dialect.

  • Best fawking film of the year hands down. Javier Bardem is tops.

  • Anton Chigurgh is cool as shit. lol

the hell wit gangster movie violence, no one does it better than a psychopath.

  • Quality film,Chigurh is a total loon ,nice to not have a textbook ending for a change.I think Chigurh was the making of that movie.

  • Hollywood has truly spoiled a lot of movie goers. Everything has to be explained to them, ambiguous endings like in this movie are frowned upon. Not all films can be escapist, popcorn, everything-can-be-resolved-in-the-end entertainment.

  • yeh i agree!! i actually thought the ending was pretty cool. it's refreshing to see an open ending. not all moviegoers need that absolute neat tied-with-a-bow package. and it's scary to know that a badass pscho like chigurh gets away with what he did in the film. i just finished the book today as well. which was even more frightening than the film (damn it, is anyone else having nightmares about anton chigurh??? hehehehe...)

  • Yep not every movie has to have an ending.

  • i agree, there is no reason that the good guys have to always when. It's refreshing for a movie to end with a surprise, and that the bad guy gets away.

  • I agree with you. I like the bad guys to get away with it sometimes...it is why I liked "The Talented Mr Ripley"

  • I think the third scene in this trailer was my favourite scene from the film.

"Don't put that coin in your pocket, or it will get mixed in with the other coins becoming just a coin.

    Which it is.."

  • Bardem made this movie be an excellent artistic film. However, it is obvious that Hollywood is staying behind on everything. Even though this movie was done by an american industry, it looks pretty european and latin!!!Which for me the latin industry and the European and sometimes the Japanese, are the best on contemporary filming!BYE BYE HOLLYWOOD!!!SEE YOU ON CANNES!!!!

  • Execution here, wild west over there. haha so many classic lines in this film!

  • right after seeing this movie I decided it was in my top 5. fucking stellar.

and yes, I found the ending to be brilliant. though the themes it touches on I don't feel have as much to do with 'apathy' of the sheriff, rather I found it to touch more on the 'you can't stop what's coming' theme

  • the ending was great. enough said.

  • The ending was perfect. All one had to do was listen to the old man and listen to the sheriff's dream...his papthy...the ending fit perfectly

  • John Brolin makes this movie superb as the consumate everyman..compelling....oscar worthy role and acting!

  • it's Josh, and Jarvier Bardem blew him out of the water.... Not that Josh Brolin was bad, he was very good, but I have never seen such a mezmorizingly great villian like the character Bardem played.

  • I am legend has a bad ending too but more people went to see that than this.

  • Good movie, bad ending. Javier Bardem is the bad guy and he is bad to the bone!

  • i ALMOST agree...GREAT movie, good ending.

  • Well, If you say so. I just thought they should of ended the movie with a shoot out or something. You can always change the ending. It don't have to have the books ending. It's a movie you need some action.

  • The Coens clearly felt the ending was good enough for them. Agreed, it is hard to accept, bcause it is unconventional, it brings the audience out of their comfort zone. The ending fits into the underlying themes of the story perfectly. I was blown away by it.

  • Indeed...I am glad you "got" the ending. Simply a reflection of the sheriff's sadness and apathy. The ending just gave his feelings and perspective a way to be displayed and drawn out cinematically. The ending was perfect. I've seen it three times and I heard ppl complain ecch time. listen to the old man and th ending makes perfect sense.

  • The ending should of had a shoot out.

  • 1world1man...it's people like you that make people like me hate most americans.

  • Like that BRO!!! Damn, it's just a MOVIE. Don't hate or kill me over it, it's not that serious! Where you from anyway?

  • america...and I don't hate you, sorry about flipping out

  • so youre from america and you hate americans? and someone thinking a movie should have ended a way that you dont agree with is an example of why you hate most americans? Am I getting this straight. A)thats a lame set of "hate" criteria you got going on B)just leave...if you hate us than leave, believe me you wont be missed. Leave the country go wherever you think is better.

  • If you mean leave America, any place is better.

  • no place is better. period.

  • I'm not going anywhere unless I want to. Right now I prefer hanging around and annoying assholes like you.

  • It's cool.

  • I like the captive bolt stunner or cattlegun the dude uses. Fuckin brutal.

  • just saw this movie...i'm familiar with Comac mcarthy's novels and I thing this is one of the greatest asdaptations of ANY novel to the screen. I rank this films overall mood up there with Lost Highway....FAN-Fucking-Tastic!!

  • Can someone upload the clip where Sheriff Bell takes out his gun and goes into the hotel? Please?

  • looks like the COEN BROS best film but we brits aint seen it yet and appearences arent everything. hmmm i think it will rock!

  • Wow. I am not even legally allowed to watch this movie and it looks incredible! But The Sixth Sense scared the shit outta me so maybe i should just rent this movie when im like 25 or so.

  • This movie is the best but other people in the theater when I saw it were bitching about how the ending sucks it's funny how people will turn their back on a film when they don't like a certain scene I mean they expected a good movie and they got one.

  • SAME HERE...i heard 1 lady shout "Well, that sucked!" and it almost seems like it was on purpose to see what people ACTUALLY respect the ending as well..compared to those too used to Hollywood endings and "oh happily ever after fairy tale" or used to some GRAND FINALE of a scene...when it was just talking and somehow i LOVED the ending and i got chills.

  • Yeah when the film finished at the cinema I was watching it in, the guy infront me of shouted "WHAT?!". Thing is I felt the same way, because all the way through the two key scenes of the ending (the old man and the sheriffs dream) all I could think about was how fucking uncomfortable the cinema seats were getting. So I'm going to have to go watch the film again now as I missed a vital part, and this time I am buying "Premiere" seats or going to a better cinema!

  • the guy behind me goes, "you gotta be shitting me..."

  • This film was greeat! Javier Bardem is amazing. Check it out!

  • this look like a great movie can't wait to see it

  • the coin flipping gave me goosebumps

  • Lewellyn: "Is Carson Wells there?"

Anton: "Not in the sense that you mean..."

  • That movie is fucking incredible. Guaranteed to be this year's Oscar sweeper. The sound engineering in this movie leaves quite an impact as well. Taking all music away it leaves us with the same focus that the scared protagonist has, listening to each minute little noise waiting for the conflict that's coming. The movie, is incredible.

  • If this movie doesn't win an Oscar, I will be incredibly surprised. Good God, this was the most incredible movie I have seen in probably...EVER.

I read the book as well, and aside from two parts, watching the movie is exactly like reading the book (and the two parts from the book they left out of the movie, IMO, the movie was better off with out them).

  • I agree completely. I am going to read the book soon. Is it worth reading the book if i have already seen the film?

  • absolutely, I bought the book literally the day after I saw this movie... awesome book, written in a style different than any other I've read.

  • I couldn't stop thinking about this film after the first time I saw it. After the second I was even more impressed. Javier Bardem is amazing. The scariest movie villian ever.

  • This will win Best Picture, I bet.

  • I love the fact that the movie has no music in it...it lends itself to a darker feel the whole way throughtout

  • i was just talking to a guy the other night, and he hasnt seen the movie yet but it is hyped up for it and i told him yea maybe a tiny bit here or there, but nah, no music, and he was psyched. coens are incredible movie makers

  • it also sets its self up with an amazing narration of tommy lee jones

  • gave me goosebumps, both times! in the beginning and end.

  • You guys have to remeber this was adapted from a novel, and it was true to the ending of the book.

  • tommy Lee Jones monologue at the end was brilliant, and puts the whole theme of the film into perspective

  • I liked the ending a lot. It was very disturbing. The silence of everything was the best part.

  • it really could use a bit of conclusion, but it can stand on coolness alone

  • This has been the best movie since Fargo, it's better than Fargo but it has the same feeling to it. Well written and directed. The ending needed to be changed though.

  • no way

  • cause if I get down on the ground I'm a gonna be in motion...

  • When the shopkeeper says 'I need to know what I stand to win' I think immediately of the old guy in the bank in Raising Arizona when the robbers simultaneously order everybody to freeze and get down on the ground. He says "well, which is it young feller. You want I should freeze? Or get down on the ground...." you know?

  • That was a funny fucking movie, dude. Love that part.

  • Except the guy from Raising Arizona was funny b/c he wasn't scared in the least, whereas the scene from No Country was sad and disturbing b/c the guy was scared shitless.

  • i want to watch this movie , todayyyyyyyyy

  • I totally agree the ending was the best part

  • thats why movies suck these days, most people need a simple, stupid ending. Nobody knows how to think and reflect about a brilliant ending anymore!

  • Great scene at the end of clip, in the store, with Bardem and the store clerk...

  • Best movie Ive seen in a long time, had to think about the ending for a while though, which is what a great movie does, keeps you thinking about it,great dialogue. Just give Bardem the Oscar now!For those who are crying about the end, go see Spidermnan or something.

  • Nice comment, I agree 100% friend-o.

  • haha friend-o

  • I agree with you too, friend-o.

I saw so many shades of their other films in this. Fargo, Raising Arizona, Barton Fink.

"you've been PUTTING it up your whole life..."

  • Loved the movie, at first didnt love the ending but then u think about the title & its perfect ,And thats what a great movie does, it keeps u thinkin about for days after you see it. Just give Bardem the Oscar right now! For people who didnt like the ending go see Spiderman or something.

  • "don't put it in your pocket" and "call it" are forever etched in the annals of movie lore. This could be a cult classic film someday

    - bendrix

  • ya but that bone was unnecissarily awesome tho

  • didn't care for the ending of the film. all else superb, though.

  • This was a great book. But I still think McCarthy's "Blood Meridian" takes the cake as his masterpiece.

"Blood Meridian" is an esoteric read, and that's not even touching on it.

  • i haven't read much, The Road was an awesome book.

  • I've had a copy of the road sitting on my shelf for year now, just waiting for me to find the time to pick it up.

Ah, so much to read, so little time I'm afraid!

  • Those last few looks that Bardem gives the old man are priceless.

  • My gf and I are going to see this tonight.

Can't wait. The novel of this film was pretty intense. I still say that McCarthy's masterpiece is "Blood Meridian."

  • Bardem is damn sinister. Glad to see Josh Brolin finally getting a great role. Look for all 3 actors - Bardem, Brolin, & Tommy Lee Jones to be nominated at Oscar time.

  • What a great movie.

  • Josh Brolin is the shit!!

  • Go see the movie, I have never been so entranced in my life. It's so ironic you said that, ya these sections are fairly mundane by themselves, but after you see the movie I challenge you to find a more gripping movie.

  • Um, have you actually seen this movie? It is excellent, and really intense. Not boring at all.

  • wow, you must be smart...

  • I've seen better ones...

  • If this bores you... then I reccomend the crasscraptic comedies I'm sure you enjoy.

That way you can leave the intellectual films... to the intellectuals.
