That last e-mail wasn't given the attention it deserved. Of course the root cause of these shortages is because of first world countries importing excess amounts of products from developing one. People in these developing countries in most cases do the hardest forms of labor, from working in sweatshops to selling and even burning off their crops for subsidies.

To answer the last question, this crisis will go on as long as capitalist economics reigns supreme. It's about profit, not efficiency.

Just to add on, its disgusting to see people advocate mass genocide of the worst off. That's not the solution, the solution is for the average people of the world to come together and throw off the shackles of the free market, because its the very thing that keeps it a free market is their wage slavery and submission to greedy capitalists.

I agree that the average people need to unite, but I would say that a having a free market might actually make this situation worse. A free market will destroy domestic agriculture diversity, leaving countries vulnerable to droughts and food disasters in other countries.

I really want to help but why poor people are having so many kids. I think we should distribute birth control.

i think it's morally bankrupt but i came across a quote... might be hitler for all i know:

"the most effective way to lessen the need for food is to kill off the old, the sick, and the poor"

I don't agree with the above statement from a moral perspective, but it has a factual argument. Are we going to start seeing governments around the globe doing this?

perhaps more morally acceptable by some... there are many cultures having many children is seen as part of survival.

There has already been efforts to try and educate african (for an example) countries in birth control, condoms, etc. In areas like this, where many children are not even registered at birth, it would not only be too difficult to enforce - it doesn't make sense to a culture where 1 of 3 children do not live past their first 5 years
