Speaking from firsthand knowledge of MtF transition, it requires months of counseling/psychotherapy to initiate hormone replacement therapy, years of adjustment/development under a second puberty, and (depending on one's results) tens of thousands of dollars and pain/recovery for facial feminization surgery, top surgery and finally bottom surgery. Not to mention 2years+ ongoing counseling/psychotherapy to qualify for said bottom surgery and voice work...
There are genetically XX men and XY women, and XX and XY pairings are only "supposed to" determine which hormone factories we get, while the vast majority of our sexually-dimorphic characteristics are grounded in the hormones themselves - which can be replaced. These hormones bring biological change down to a cellular level, changing even brain shape/size and neurology to that of the target sex.
Biology is on our side, and thank you for bringing it up.

Someone is not a man or a woman because of someone else. They are a man or a woman if they identify as a man or a woman. To call someone other than their self identified gender is the same as any other purposeful mislabeling. Now imagine that when you attempted to correct them but they insisted you were wrong, not for any rational reason but because they said so.

@knzja ... Maleness and femaleness is defined by a man and woman’s biology, not their mental state of mind at any given time. Your analogy is incomplete in that it compares apples with oranges. One’s self-identity can be subjective and fluctuates according to one’s thoughts, stage of life and environment. Mislabeling a man wearing lipstick as a woman is fantasy not rooted in reality.

Yes, and a fully transitioned trans woman is a woman. Sex is determined by both genotype and phenotype. And with today's technology, phenotype can be changed. Primary sexual characteristics, check. Secondary sexual characteristics, check. Endocrine system levels, check. Phenotype is just as important, if not more so in social interaction, than genotype.

@ LoneSoldier013 ... 1 ... according to the facts in the Macy’s press release and the webcast (we wonder if you actually listened to the entire webcast), the male used expletives toward the employee, Natalie Johnson, but eventually complied with Natalie’s request. This was a social construct that did not rise to the level of criminal charges. Had the man not left the fitting room, exposed himself or peeped at young girls the situation, indeed, could have risen to the level of criminal charges.

@ LoneSoldier013 ... 2 ... please note that Macy’s policy is not in compliance with federal law, more specifically the Civil Rights Act. Liberty Counsel has, since this incident, received many concerns from Macy’s employees all around the country that claimed they had been asked numerous times by mothers with daughters in fitting rooms to please ask men to leave the women’s dressing rooms. Men identifying as men have been routinely allowed to simply “hang out” in the women’s dressing rooms.

Macy’s policy is ripe for sexual predators preying on young girls. In response to your comment, perhaps you, yourself, might want to return to basic biology class to determine what actually makes up male and female biology. A male wearing lipstick does not give one a pass to be intolerant or prejudiced against evangelicals.

And, no - it's not just that easy.
Speaking from firsthand knowledge of MtF transition, it requires months of counseling/psychotherapy to initiate hormone replacement therapy, years of adjustment/development under a second puberty, and (depending on one's results) tens of thousands of dollars and pain/recovery for facial feminization surgery, top surgery and finally bottom surgery. Not to mention 2years+ ongoing counseling/psychotherapy to qualify for said bottom surgery and voice work...

And what do you know of biology?
There are genetically XX men and XY women, and XX and XY pairings are only "supposed to" determine which hormone factories we get, while the vast majority of our sexually-dimorphic characteristics are grounded in the hormones themselves - which can be replaced. These hormones bring biological change down to a cellular level, changing even brain shape/size and neurology to that of the target sex.
Biology is on our side, and thank you for bringing it up.

Someone is not a man or a woman because of someone else. They are a man or a woman if they identify as a man or a woman. To call someone other than their self identified gender is the same as any other purposeful mislabeling. Think about how you have felt when people have not remembered your name and used another one when you thought of them as a friend. Now imagine that when you attempted to correct them but they insisted you were wrong, not for any rational reason but because they said so.
