A lot of the time I try to see it from the police's point of view and sometimes there is justifications due to stressful situations and such, but in cases like this... it's clear cut. It's really a shame to see the amount of thuggish behaviour by the RCMP considering I was wanting to join them after my masters. I've completely disregarded that idea and am heading for the VPD, which do have their own problems as well, but not at all in the comparison of the RCMP.

This is what happens in protests regularly in Montreal. Citizens should be outraged about this. They can carry on acting like this because they dont lose their jobs or get criminally prosecuted. He is a man who worked at a golf course and was put on disability leave following a brain injury. His job at the golf course included firing blank shotgun shells into the air to scare geese. He was probably just confused because of his injury and for some reason, firing shells as he did in his job.
I doubt, in the end, he will be charged with anything, although he may have his firearms permit revoked. I could be wrong, but that's how I see that playing out.

While I agree with you this looks terrible and the officer should stand trial on serious charges, and that compensation may well be due, it is my understanding the suspect was on disability leave from the golf course, and not actually working that day.
Staff may have feared him there with a shotgun not knowing what was going on, or something like that. They may have considered him a disgruntled employee (who had a brain injury), or why else go to work when you're on leave carrying?
That's definitely a worry. This could magnify his existing injury or start a new one or both.
I hope the man receives compensation, unless there's evidence I'm not seeing that he was a thread and was doing anything other than complying with commands.

If friends of mine committed an illegal act and I was in their presence and I stayed silent and went along with it, when they got caught, I'd go down along with them. The same should apply to the RCMP. The assisting officers should have arrested him right there and charged him with assault. For doing nothing, they should have lesser charges brought against them as well.

There is further chatter that shots were fired. Next, you can see the RCMP retrieve a shotgun from the truck. These are facts you can view and hear. The rest, is speculation for us. I am very surprised they let him get that close. I was taking pictures after a car ran into my friends old house and they told me to stop taking pictures until they left. I was several feet out in the street away from them they are really camera shy.

A lot of the time I try to see it from the police's point of view and sometimes there is justifications due to stressful situations and such, but in cases like this... it's clear cut. It's really a shame to see the amount of thuggish behaviour by the RCMP considering I was wanting to join them after my masters. I've completely disregarded that idea and am heading for the VPD, which do have their own problems as well, but not at all in the comparison of the RCMP.

He is a man who worked at a golf course and was put on disability leave following a brain injury. His job at the golf course included firing blank shotgun shells into the air to scare geese. He was probably just confused because of his injury and for some reason, firing shells as he did in his job.
I doubt, in the end, he will be charged with anything, although he may have his firearms permit revoked. I could be wrong, but that's how I see that playing out.

While I agree with you this looks terrible and the officer should stand trial on serious charges, and that compensation may well be due, it is my understanding the suspect was on disability leave from the golf course, and not actually working that day.
Staff may have feared him there with a shotgun not knowing what was going on, or something like that. They may have considered him a disgruntled employee (who had a brain injury), or why else go to work when you're on leave carrying?

If friends of mine committed an illegal act and I was in their presence and I stayed silent and went along with it, when they got caught, I'd go down along with them. The same should apply to the RCMP. The assisting officers should have arrested him right there and charged him with assault. For doing nothing, they should have lesser charges brought against them as well.

My issue here is that force should be matched with force and it seems obvious that this man was surrendering. Maybe something different will be revealed in the trial.
Conversely, these officers were responding to a call about shots being fired and some articles mention charges of reckless use of a firearm. This makes me feel it is more reasonable to act first and think afterwards while still preserving life.
More context is needed to determine whether there is serious fault here.

The tape looked awful: No two ways about it. A man kicked in the face hard, more than once I think, is never going to look good.
It's a good thing it was caught on video to be reviewed, in context, at trial. My point above is that in this tape, the female officer didn't use excessive force.

Stupid cops!! seems like the most useless people in a society become cops. Noting to do in life ? Become a cop and grow an inflated sense of importance. I feel more insecure with cops like this than i do with criminals. At least you need to provoke a fight with anyone else (takes two) with a cop you just have to be within striking distance.

Let's not get hysterical but this officer should be charged with assault causing bodily harm and ultimately dismissed. The vast majority of male and female police officers are good, civic minded people but there has always been and always will be bullies like this drawn to the job. Everything must be done to keep them out and to dismiss them when they are find out. The damage thugs like this so is immense. Keeping him on the job would be like keeping on pedophile priests..

The RCMP is a criminal gang which commits countless assaults and murders. They are never punished, even when they are caught in the act of committing a crime, but only get a paid holiday ("administrative duties" or "paid leave") as a reward.
The only solution is to disband this gang and prosecute every member of it, from the top down, who has committed a crime. The people of this country are not safe with the RCMP armed and roaming at large.

I am very surprised they let him get that close. I was taking pictures after a car ran into my friends old house and they told me to stop taking pictures until they left. I was several feet out in the street away from them they are really camera shy.

She blatantly saw what he did... yet, I bet she'll defend him during the inquiry. She should be put on the chopping block too. @Varulv : I agree. That RCMP female officer should be on the chopping block as well. She should be put on the stand and be charged with aiding and abetting a crime. She should've/could've stopped Mantler, but she didn't. She also did NOT apply any first aid to an already bleeding man who was injured because of the kick.

That police officer has acted just like a GANG MEMBER, problem is that he is a member of the RCMP. Is this what the RCMP has become, a bunch of THUGS. It seems to be this way across the nation.
