Dude, why are the photos so dark ? Why are you so much off in the camera ? You rely to much on post when you should spend more time in taking more close to final level in the camera.
You can review the shoots, you can review histograms, so I can see no reason why the photos are so underexposed, unless there was something wrong with screenflow/youtube. Based on the amount of exposure you are adding in, for sure you get them wrong in the camera. If you was dead center with exposure indicator...
@ladduro the in camera settings were fine, it was just when they were on my computer that they looked very under exposed. however the good thing is that with low iso photos especially portraits it is not so bad to under expose compared to over exposing. digital cameras can recover a lot of detail from the shadows, and each time i am only increasing the exposure by about a stop. easy on any modern camera. but granted, would rather get that sorted in camera. but a big screen helps
Dom - Great video!.. But I must ask: Do you have a proper portrait lens like a 85 or 50mm prime? If so, why did you choose this 70-200? While I know it is a sharp lens - I prefer the softer look of a portrait lens.. I need all the tips I can get because I've been asked to do my first professional large-scale portarit shoot next month - actors, actresses, etc.
@kbernard98 i am using it because i just got the 70-200, it cost me around 1000 pounds so i want to use it as much as i can, the 50mm is not really long enough but the 85 will be my next purchase. but in general a 50mm is fine for 90% of shots
@Jumparound87 not purposely, also when editing i had my computer monitor on a lower brightness setting, oops. but the histogramme is where it is at, and just wanted to get that more spread out.
What I love most about your videos (particularly your workflow videos) is how honest you are about your photography. So many photographers would never show all the shots from any portrait session and show how they edit their photos. I recently started an on-the-side photography business and find your honesty refreshing. Thanks for all the great videos.
Fantastic video Dom, watched all the way through and you had some STUNNING shots in there. Great tip with using the brush to get rid of crap in the background.
Nice poster in background! :)

Do you calibrate your monitor?

Dom, the politically correct term is not "black", it's "underexposed"

You seem to be increasing the brightness of all your shots. Are you purposely underexposing when you take them?
