It was (as I recall) 5/16" spectra twelve strand and the failure load was very close to the breaking strength of the line.
You can hear individual strands failing starting at about 1:04, long before the big failure.
This is because the load is not evenly balanced within the splice. The failure is the inner braid where it enters the knot.
My explanation:
The knot weakens the line by 50%
The inner and outer braid do not share the load equally.
50% of the load is on each side of the loop.
