Hmmmm, where do you get these ideas? The unit maps a room by going around the perimeter of the room first -- this has the vacuum within a fraction of an inch of the wall. After one circuit it then does the serpentine pattern seen in this video to finish up. The initial mapping stage is not on this video but if you search around youtube you can find other videos that show this.
Oh, and my house has *minimal* rat droppings... ;-)
I heard your dog barking at the Neato; ours would run away when our Roomba started heading her direction. (The Roomba died, though, so we've just ordered a Neato to replace it!)
I had a Roomba and this one looks like it works a lot better, but I can still vacuum in less than half the time. Maybe if I set it for a time when I'm not home, then it might seem a lot faster. We'll see...
Yes, you can set a sched so it runs when you are not at home. It will even return to its base for more charge if it doesn't finish before the battery gets low.
@plslc1 the idea is that you vacuum when you are not home... then "you" vacuum in the amount of time it takes to push the "on" button. @Ima Y am, it does a great job overall but the corners are not 100% clean... I don't mind spending 5 minutes going around with a broom and pushing the dirt away from the walls with a broom (I have all wood floors) before I start the bot.
@plslc1 I have the XV and the Roomba. I found the Roomba 'bump' annoying when it would hit my nice grandfather clock, so I got the XV. I just come home and the floors are clean with the XV. It's such a non-event with the programmable vacuum time, you just forget about it. -Just empty the bin sometimes. It usually stays clear of obstacles and I hardly ever vacuum. I've never had a problem with it finding it's way home for charging. -Doesn't do the stairs though.
@Dimitry1996 I don't think it makes any more noise than an upright vacuum... besides.. if you run it when you are not home you don't have to listen to it.
This robot is missing a side brush and dirt detection. I noticed you are cleaning hard floors. Can it clean carpet as effective as roomba? I had roomba for over 4 years it does a wonderful job. What about the maintenance?
I have to pickup mats like that. Does pretty well on dog hair (not perfect). I have to empty the basket everyday because of our hair-factory yellow lab. BUT that is all hair which would languish on our floor for a week until I got the upright vacuum out.and used it myself.
Being a Roomba 610 owner, does the Neato get closer to the walls? Having my Roomba for little over 2 years, she hasn't damaged anything yet. Watching the video, seems that the Neato is almost running backwards.
very interesting. I was wondering how long can it go on a full charge before it has to head back tot he charger? Also I guess its not that great on carpet floors?
Yes, this thing truly is a labor saver. I decide I want to vacuum the downstairs, I carry it down there, roll up one small fringy matt I have in the bathroom, open all the connecting doors, tell it to do its thing and then leave to run a couple of errands around town.
When I get back the robot is back where I left it saying that cleaning is done and I put the matt back down. I know the carpets are done because its smart about where it goes.
Hi, I want to be beta-tester of any domestic robots (as you) or any other home appliances. Could you tell me how you get this job? Of course if you like on priva ;) Thanks.
hey - i'm massive Roomba fan, and am extremely impressed with the XV-11.
It seems that it cleans multiple rooms quite well. are your rooms all connected directly or through each other? I'm curious if it has trouble coming back for instance through two additional rooms on top of the main one?
I have a split level house and it cannot deal with stairs. Other than that if I turn it loose and keep the doors open it goes everywhere.
Sometimes there are "traps" but these are pretty easy to prevent -- like it getting caught in a narrow space between the legs of a recliner chair and the wall behind. Solution? push the chair back far enough so it can't get into the space between the legs or pull the chair out far enough to let the robot easily go in and out of the space.
holy moly lol

XV returns to its dock on its own too. And does different surfaces too. What is the difference that makes you like the Roomba better?
citabjockey 7 months ago
Waste of money, doesn't even vacuum close to the walls, so you should have a lot of rat droppings after it's done.

Dog is used to the XV now. He just moves out of its way when it gets within a foot or so of him.

This doesnt go in the corners? DOes it touch walls? A lot of the dirt gets in the corners and walls.. DOes it clean that?
ImaYam 1 year ago
@ImaYam
It does get quite close to walls. That said if you are fastidious then you may want to wand the corners and tight places with a hose vac.
