I do get where you coming from. Currently I have not developed oratorical skills like you have, but I definitely sure that you could be more aggressive. I may be an idiot by telling you this, because currently don't do anything myself, but I feel you get the point of my view at your work.
How many people are you going to reach and help if you keep the network small? How well does "back pocket" things work for you? If you are not going to touch every single child or family who need help, who will? Where did you see encouraging work well? Wouldn't it be more efficient to show...demonstrate visually for people what you do instead of offering "membership"?
It would help if parents joined.

I actually suggested a social network for parents on my last hour for my internship...i had no idea that it already existed.
