  • @svord2 someones a stoner

  • @mrgoldenguy100 ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ok then

  • Im wondering, the star constilations around 581c looks exactly like those on the show on Discovery Channel (alien hunters?) where they mentioned a women was abducted (sure) and later drew a similiar star constilation stating that this is where they showed her they were from. weird ( you think I watch too much tv-lol).

  • oh well..we'll never get to travel there in the first place as the world is in financial crisis and no one's figured out how to build super advanced space ships with advanced fuel system to get there ..just like in startrek..! so we're screwed...sitting ducks for bad ass asteriod..

  • thats fucking crazy

  • Mars too cold???I thought Mars used to have water and scientists thought that millions of years ago, It may have had life.

  • the posibility of alian life? thoes scientists must be blind if they think its only a posibility!! geeeez, who are these scientists ? the us goverment

  • nothing is inpomsible ;)

  • ya and man will never get to see that planet . thats a fact

  • I got a few things to say.

    1. Why does EVERYONE think aliens look different? Can't they look just like us? There isn't proof they look different.

2.The world is developing quickly. About 50 years from now there will be humans on that planet, Exploring it.

3.If the planet is capable of having humans, then that planet is doomed. The humans will once again destroy a planet just like Earth.

  • fuck yea i ashamed that all us faget ass retards sit on are ass and do nothing but pointless money makin right it sucks right we procastinate to much

  • Do you think you Brits and Yanks could throw some measurements into Metric so that the rest of the world can understand what you morons are talking about? Fuck.....the world descides and you guys are still trailing behind.

  • that is sooooo exciting........... its like my first time having sex

  • Everytime I think of Gliese 581c, how crazy as it sounds, I feel weird and think what kind of thing are we? And why the fuck are we having wars for? Everyone should be in peace..

Everything on this earth, is full of shit.. Everyone should have the same rights.

    Everything feels weird..

  • @Dr4g0nSt4nc3 Good thoughts - all except for the "Everything on this earth, is full of shit." part. I'm not full of shit. Just half-full. My shit container is HALF-EMPTY! :-)

  • gliese 581c? pfft

    It's called Reach. lol

  • Gliese 881c??? pfft....

    It's called Reach. lol

  • Them: Guys look! We found a new planet! Let call it Gliese 581c

Us: We found a planet lets call it Gliese 581c

  • aren't those planets going to have quakes!

  • @Ratmaster100 There's a good chance. One factor is whether or not the crust of the planet is cracked into crustal plates.

  • Yeah- no let's just NOT send humans to this planet, until we mature- mentally. We'd probably end up destroying this planet and their civilization- unless of course, they're smarter than us (if this planet hosts some sort of life forms). And if people are arguing about which god is which, or whatever, what if we go to that planet and they believe in some sort of Fish god? More arguments there.

  • Lol, humans suck.

We'll never get there because we'll be to busy having war on this planet ;/

Anyone else kinda ashamed to be human?

  • @ProjectCosmos

I want to live on gliese 581 g and be happy alone =)

  • @ProjectCosmos

Hell fucking no I ain't ashamed to be the most advanced life form we know to exist. We are the only species known to exist that possesses intelligence at the levels we implement and utilize it. I believe that we are so strikingly intelligent that if we do happen to find ourselves in the middle of a man-made mess, we WILL find a way to survive. The way things are going, this may be an imminent event. We've had a few close calls. We also have an incredible emotional abilities.

  • @ProjectCosmos

The feelings generated our emotional system not only provide for social bonding and protection of our species, but it provides a number of automatic survival mechanism that are called instinct in the animal kingdom. These mechanisms are sometimes called gut feelings (because of our very complex brain-body chemistry) in the human species. This extremely adaptive intellectual-emotional system of ours is entirely capable of figuring out how to survive without killing each other.

  • @ProjectCosmos

If we find another planet capable of sustaining life as we know it (which seems entirely probable at this point) we may also find a way to get there (which also seems entirely probable at this point). Hmmm... I wonder if we would repeat the same type of situation when the Europeans discovered the "New World" a few centuries ago. I'm thinking not, but it's definitely something to thinks about should this "entirely probable" scenario come to pass. Sure would be fun, though, eh!?!?

  • @ProjectCosmos I am SO... not human -____- =]

  • @ProjectCosmos I am.

  • I wonder if this is the "new earth" out of the end times prophecies of Revelations... God says there will be a new heaven and a new earth!! Very interesting...

  • @Jeenyus1983 yeah and if we do move to a new planet the night sky (and most likely the day sky, as well) would look significantly different than the one earth providing the "New Heaven" for our "New Earth". Whoa!

  • We need to learn a little bit more about this planet before we go leaping for it. First, we need to get a telescope at least 3X the strength of hubble, and we need to send it in that direction for about a year(Yes i know, it wont get there) I did some math, and if the telescope is 3X the strength of hubble, and we travel at our current average space speeds of 11,186 MPH then you can be within range to study is axies, and see if it has large oceans(unless cloud cover)

  • Ohh great Another PARADISE to destroy.. at what method? Polution? Chemical Wastes? Ohh i got it.. NUCLEAR WAR! -_-...

  • that planet is near the red sun that mean that it is really cold there?

  • ???

I learned about this in astronomy... The star Gliese 581 is a red dwarf star, only 1.3% as bright as our own sun. Gliese 581c is outside the habitable zone, but 581g might not be. These planets are a lot closer to their star as we are to the sun, cause they must be closer to have similar temperatures. It is also tidally locked, meaning like our Moon to us, one side is always facing the sun, and one side always away. The terminator may be the best location to search for life.

  • i will laugh hard if they go there and discover crab people

  • It's a good thing that we can't make it there yet.

First we'd try to exploit them to make money off of them, then we'd try to rob them of their resources, if that doesn't work we'd kill them. I'm about 99% sure we'd end up killing them.

Good thing is the type of advanced technology needed to get us there would require much more education for our entire species, hopefully that'll be enough for us to not kill them.

  • @SaM52461 we'll most likely enslave them like what our ancestors did to each other in the past

  • Thumbs up for E.T. at the end :D !!!!!!

  • im a little confuse, so uhm. the new planet that found is called, Gliese 581c or Gleses 581, or is the the red star name?

  • Human will not care about this planet beauty, only thing they care about is getting its mineral ore and prospecting it. Discovering new metals and properties. A good business in the future will be digging and mining machinery. Sad but true. Same for every planet. Cannot build any amazing new engineering without ore metals.

  • "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program. And if

we become extinct because we don't have a space program, it'll serve us right!"

Larry Niven, quoted by Arthur Clarke in interview

    at space.com, 2001

    duh,We have NASA

  • Being close enough of a sun doesn't mean it is habitable. There is so much thing to consider:

    1- Rotation around it's axe.

    2- Atmosphere gas.

    3- Size and gravity.

    4- Proximity to its star.

    5- Global temperature.

6- A massive object, close enough, to catch asteroids and comets that could eventually destroy (as Jupiter does for us).

There is many other things to consider before saying a planets is habitable. The proximity of its sun is only one of them !

  • @Larloch80

yeah but you have to god onside the box larloch. out planet had alot of things to consider too since we're the only known living planet in the infinite galaxy.

  • @Larloch80

yeah but you have to god onside the box larloch. out planet had alot of things to consider too since we live on the only known living planet in the infinite galaxy.

  • @Larloch80 Don't forget:

7- The proper axial tilt to allow for regular seasonal changes as the plane orbits its host.

8- A magnetic field strong enough to provide a magnetosphere that protects us from any deadly stellar radiation (called solar radiation here at home).

9- We also might like a large enough satellite to give us oceanic tides.

  • @svord2 True :)

  • Call it Reach, please.

  • If humanity can get past the hurdle of religion we can start making quick progress.

What will religion say when we find another intelligent race?

  • @PivotDemon548

ever seen independence day lol. i'm really excited about the new planet but if their's any extraterrestial life i think we should stay away. from the movies i've watched aliens don't like us really much lol

  • @PivotDemon548 Did u know the catholic church is one of the world leaders in astronomy? And no they r not trying to disprove science they r looking for the same answers u are, why our universe does what it does. My astronomy professor said "science answers the Who, What, Where, When and How. Religion answers the Why."

Religious people r not the science fearing crazies that CNN tries to paint them as, they just have different beliefs than u do. Is that a problem? They don't have a problem with u.

  • @PivotDemon548 Hmmm... Good question. What did they say when we found out that the earth wasn't the center of The Universe? What did they say when we found out for damn sure that we are highly advanced members of the primate family? Many are still vehemently denying it in the face of over-freakin-whelming evidence.

  • No Muslims Allowed!!!!

  • @alebar85 uhh you already began to fight...

i think we should send the brainless ones like you to that planet..

cause as it says Gliese will not last as long as earth will ;)

  • @MrFlyingscotsman1 haha the funny part is you know its true but refuse to admit it...

  • @alebar85 Yeah! I wouldn't recommend bringing along any Christians, Muslims or Atheists either. ;-) Too funny!

  • I wonder if they got good weed there??

  • @jskezo some1 will sneak sum seeds over when we move there lol that red sun grows that bomb shit x)

  • @tcmcclure2323 No silly. The planet that grows the killerest f-ing ganja is exactly 420 light years away. The only way we can get there is through the use of cosmic kona buds! X-]

  • @jskezo if theres weed there, then it will called as "Gliese 581c, the Weed Planet"

  • the bloody thing is probly 10/100/1000 light years away!!

  • @Privacy745 Close, it is about 20 light years away.

  • i wanna be an astronaut now, screw nursing.

  • fantastic

  • wait, is gliese 581 and 581c different?

  • @SuperDbzmaster Gliese 851 is the star, 581c is the planet. i think,

  • @SuperDbzmaster Yes. Gliese 581c is much smaller.

  • Gliese581c is too far to explore.... 20 light years away from earth -.-

  • 6 aliens are unhappy we found them.

  • @TheWeaselOfDoom Make that 7.

  • I have one question if this planet is 20 light years far from our earth how can telescop caputre the pictures of this planet

  • @Superman10202 so if we take a look through a big enough telescope, we can see Gliese581c. but we dont see it from out 2010 time, we see it how it was 20 years ago, because it took any light 20 years to travel far enough for us to see it.

  • Just give it time before humanity fucks it all up.......

  • First we need to colonise our solar system. And observe gliese for intelligent life.

So we can prepare for a visit

  • Ya se ha descubierto otro planeta con mas posibilidades de vida, Gliese 581 G

  • if there is a foreign intelligent life (chances are low) i bet some ass holes from earth would jump to conclusions and assume that they're evil

  • @aidan773 maybe they are but i'm not worying cuz i'm not going to live long enough to fiind out, u know since the end of the world is coming(that's a joke:D)

  • @zetrino lol 2012

  • @aidan773, if so, we are no better then them i'm afraid, we humans are primitive enough to destroy our own world, we fight each other over personal opinions, we destroy our own race with world wars, seriously, if some one says other life forms out there in space are evil and we are good guys, man, that someone does not now what its talking about...

  • @YF23BlackWidowII We're gonna grow out of that shit pretty soon. Really! Thanks to rigorous and extremely detailed scientific analysis of the microscopic, macroscopic and classical levels of our environment and our extremely efficient modes of communication, we are teetering on the cusp of a new paradigm in civilization that comprehends who and what the human species is. Maybe even why. We are f-ing wonderful forms of life.

  • Oh please, let that planet alone. Hadn't we caused enough on our planet that we should seek another world to do our shit.

  • @primetime0104 yeah but still we're humans we can't just let things alone

  • GOOD LUCK SCIENTIST! We believe in you. Mankind should exist Forever through their knowledge :)

  • yea and now just get there...

  • ive seen many planets but fuck me this is shocking

  • We would make colony in our Moon, Mars, and in Gliese 581G

  • i have a feeling, after 5 billion years (when our sun explodes) we are going to HAVE to think of this planet as an option. dont forget your science classes, loves! dont forget that stars explode and the Sun makes no difference. one of these days, the earth will be no more, im just saying....

  • @micshia1306 yeah but there's nothing to worry about, unless u can live for 5 billion years:D

  • @zetrino true that true that! i feel sorry for my descendants then ;)

  • isnt it a bit sad that we probably wont be around to see it

  • @TheMegaLoll i completely agree

  • Anyhow, I just wanted to say that this discovery is amazing. Now if only we were able to travel light speed we could go there and find out so much more. But I do believe we should still focus on going to Mars first.

  • I Can't believe it... SUPERMAN does EXIST!! I knew it. They got it all wrong.. This planet is really called KRYPTON which orbits the RED SUN. Here on earth we of course carry the YELLOW SUN which feeds Superman all of his powers. I think it's only a matter of time before Jor-el will place Kal-el in the space pod towards Earth. Bust out your Superman shirts now because it's gonna happen.

  • You guys are sooooooooo right the earth is only 6 thousand years old, it is the center of the universe, evolution is a complete myth, and we should lock away scientist that discovers anything. Like that traitor Galileo. If ignorance is bliss you must be the happiest people around....

  • BullShit!!!!!

  • Wow... These are some of the most ignorant comments I have seen in a long time. If scientist were just worried about money; they wouldn't be scientist. 99% of the it's not a very profitable profession. The only hopelessness in the world is the refusal to look for answers and new things. What's sad is people who sit around YouTube and try to debunk things they have no knowledge of. Good luck becoming anything in life though!

  • Could this be the new earth that it speaks of in Revelations hmmmmmmmm

  • @iam7who7iam7 i was just thinking that same thing.

  • @iam7who7iam7 dude this got to be the planet of reach. i highly suggest that we dont worry about this planet, dont try to go there, dont even look at it because its nothing but bad news.

  • @iam7who7iam7 spot on with that comment.

  • @iam7who7iam7 what revelations????

  • scientist are just a big joke.....They only care about their money.....and want to prove something that they think they can prove but really can't

    very hopeless......

  • They don't know what their really talking about. all Scientist in this world are.. is full of crap.

  • This is all BS

  • How things match!

Why in Libra witch means Balance between Good and Evil or Light And Dark.

and this Planet is Half Light Half Darkness.

    Also libra is Hosanana.

  • dont let humans destroy this beautiful planet.

  • i think we should send obama there to see if its habitable

  • I think after approximately 250 years we can colonized it!!!

    Just a Fact.....

    -Zan-

  • Interestingly on the same day that Gliese581c was discovered by us, the inhabitants of Gliese581c announced the discovery of the first Gliese581c-like planet that could support life and are currently planning its invasion.

  • theres obviously other civilizations on diffirent planets i just wish we could travel there! it would be amazing, just imagine, a whole other world.

  • After reading many comments about travelling at light speed, from what I have seen/ read, the ideas being tossed around in the scientific world generally have been about getting around this problem as opposed to theorizing means to travelling at light speed.

One theory would involve the warping of space around a vessel, allowing speeds that would not be possible otherwise (light speed, or even faster than light). This is something that (to me) is more practical and possible approach.

  • I WANNA GO THERE NOW !!

  • gleise makes me wanna play spore :p

  • "Send a probe, send underwater rovers"? How? It's too far away. Even if we could find a way of getting stuff to move at the speed of light (!) we probably couldn't find all the fuel needed for 20 years of that speed, even if we were to find a way to combust all of Earth's entire mass.

  • @Glaader

its impossible to travel the speed of light.

that would literally mean you would be everywhere in the entire universe at once.

  • @DCahenzli If the speed of light equals being everywhere at the same time, then how come we see light from stars that already died? Light does travel, doesn't it? I agree on achieving that speed is impossible as far as our science is concerned, but I´d like a deeper explanation regarding that "being everywhere at once" thesis.

  • @Glaader sorry i said that wrong.

i ment that under the laws of physics we have now,

and using the technology we have now.

    its impossible.

laws of physics says that we would be everywhere at once if we did which it stupid.

  • -Zan-

I think it`s impossible!!! If an animal can run in s speed of sound why can`t we?

we are the smartest species God created!!

  • Maybe when we stop blowing the shit out of each other and arguing whos God is better we could finally reach out to explore. We still havent explored are oceans.

And if this is another earth, then we better NOT go there as we are to primative in our thinking and we would only end up destroying Earth II anyways.

  • @dinglenutzz

I agree Dingle ... But I'd give it a few minutes before we explore the Gulf after BP Let loose in there. And, for God's sake (whichever one is best) DON'T STRIKE A MATCH!

  • @dinglenutzz 100% right

  • @dinglenutzz DUDE you are seriously fucked up,you smoke weed XD?

  • @kadmany =D...yeah cant't you tell by my awful spelling of "are" instead of "our"

    LOL

  • @dinglenutzz

I had to re-read this comment a few time and double check who wrote it, i swear I thought I had written it myself. Wow

  • @dinglenutzz u sir r right!

  • it was fullof big headed arses and nibiru is full of arseholes tom cruise diaz etc ploouting the atmosphere like humans now dead

  • very interesting video. Thank you!

  • the New Earth orbits around a red dwarf, and this is one of the oldest stars in our galaxy, so it's extremely stable, which means that life (if it exists) would've had billions of years to evolve.. maybe several civilizations have already left that planet..

  • @Paulo969 We don't need o travel more than the speed of light... Okay maybe we wont make a ship that can travel with the speed of lightwithin 100 years, but it is possible. Travelling 20 years isn't so bad...

  • @TranceMasterXXX its impossible to move at the speed of light... sorry... but a space ship would have an infinite amount of weight at that speed, requiring an infinite amount of fuel :]

  • wow this is amazing.an idiot would think that we are alone.

  • ALIEN TURD!!! =O

  • us says they 581c has got weapons of mass destructions, so we are sending the troops to search.

    Yeepi

  • Wrong picture at 2:00, Earh is bigger than Venus!

  • It's still so long.....i probably wont make it to see aliens. Maybe in the year 2100?

By then , we're so advance that it's crazy. XD

  • @PirateKing1256 dont worry you might get the chance to find out that aliens exist because in 2009 a message was sent from a massive radio telescope in Ukraine to planetary system where gliese 581c is. so the quickest response, should there be one, will be in 2049. but it depends how old you are and i dont mean that in a rude way

  • @sgh95 I'm old ! Lol. 17 at 2010.

    17+39 = 56years old at 2049.

  • @PirateKing1256 haha, but thats only 56 in 2049, ill be 54 then so im sure we will both be able to see it happen :)

  • Yeah lets get this Anti-Gravity thing figured out and head over there. Put up basketball courts and volleyball nets

  • Can i go there?

  • that is eithre a turd or a slug

  • This is just amazing! I never heard about this till now XD and I love astronomy too!

    This just made my morning.

I don't think Gliese will harbor life, if it doesn't, than that will be a problem for us humans. We can't survive on food rations forever! lol well I guess we could bring animals and plants to Gliese and populate certain areas of Gliese if there are no eatable, if any, creatures to hunt.

  • We will reach this planet in under 100 years from now

  • then why not send out a pack of monkeys to gliese 581 and keep a watch on them to see if its habbitable and put life support jackets on to check there heart rate and also makes it a effecient probe

  • i like the star trek music

  • well even with a ship that travels at the speed of light, it'll still take a life time to reach it, and maybe just to find out that there is nothing there and does not support life. hopeless.

  • im pro

  • in a red sunlight alot of people would look more attractive

  • im sure there are earth like planets in every galaxy

  • I think these scientists are to amazed to take into account that it is a REALY small Star and it's also realy far away compared to the size of the tiny red dwarf star.

  • wtf there are 2 gliese

  • They showed a pic of an alien at 2:38,

People tend to imagine that aliens look like humans!

The fake alien has a head with eyes, a nose and a mouth plus a neck, arms on each side of its body and so on. u get the point... it looks like the form of a human

An alien from another planet could look like anything we have never seen. It could have a body of any colour, a body of any shape, it may not even have a body!

The alien there looks like a human with a triangle face!

  • Dear gawd, if there was a dime everytime I heard a reference to Spore, I'd be rich right now....

Anyways, I think it's pretty cool that there's an earthly relative to our planet. Hmm...Now if there was some way we could get the people in charge of major science discoveries to make a ship good enough to take us there...

  • how do the know how milkyway look like?...

    (Sorry for my bad english)

  • Ok men, grab your picks and hammers.

    Time to build a boat!

Ok, well maybie a really large generational space ship capable of supporting a population of say.... 200,000?

    YES WE CAN!

  • We can see things 120 trillion miles away? That's fucking mind blowing.

  • @Ifeanichukwu

We can see things allot further away than that.

  • dont underestimate technology mate

  • How about we just fix up Mars instead of flying all the way to this piece of shit?

  • hmm probley cause there is no water on mars dip shit its a dead planet u cant just "FIX UP a planet" as u say and u couldent remove a presseruised suit on mars without fucking die n

  • @RTR9 LOLUMAD?

  • @TheBagelBrotherz aha naw dude people just dont think like u cant just fix a plantet ahah wtf

  • @RTR9 My comment turned off your anger and turned on your douchebaggery. Gtfo.

  • @TheBagelBrotherz are u the jackass that said lets just fix up mars? if not why are u calling me a douchbag u homo.

  • @RTR9 LOLUMAD? A LITTLE DEFENSIVE?
