  • Great video and drawing Lon. I could never have done that in less than 10 minutes. :)

  • what pencil is this?

  • Great video!

  • baby looks chinese in real life the one on the drawing looks indian lol

  • I really like this. It must have been hard trying to draw it with the baby moving around so much.

  • You are disgrace for ART DRAWING world. What a hell are you doing?? Drawing like this when doesnt even look like the model, model here is unnecesarly. Who paid this for you is disgraced. Find a real artist for portrait then this sucking man.

  • totally different.

but beside that is a good drawning.

im not a hater im a critic :D

  • what kind of pencil do you use?

  • I think it is incredible that you got that close likeness of the baby while it was squirming around! I think the only thing that was noticebly off was the eyes. The baby you drew was obviously asian, but the eyes were just generic baby eyes. awesome job though! and awesome patience!

  • You are reaaaaaaallly good, I tried to draw along, but my baby turned into a 6 year old. :/ Thank you sooo much though.

  • I drew along with him and the techniques were good. I was a little rusty. People grow into portraits - it is the artist's job to give his or her expression of that person.

  • that those not look like that babe . its just a portrait of a common baby face. chicks are broder ,eyes are darker well alot is different

  • fuck you

  • fuck your mother what do you know this guy or something . it sucks not even good enough

  • lol hes drawing with one hand and holding ernie in the other

  • I draw her! I DRAW HER I CAN DO IT!

  • adorable :)

  • OMG, Maestro has stuffed animal on the left hand to cheers baby !!..tells portrait artists must have good personality!!

  • is it only me or dose that baby look like asian but that drawing look like some white baby? XD

  • It's because he screwed up the eyes.

  • No, its because he hasn't coloured it in yet

  • Yeah, can I get a pencil like that at Micheals? The mechanical one with the thick lead. It shades nice.

  • You can... but they only come with an HB lead. He's using a 4B lead, which you'll probably have to either special order from Michaels (if they do that) or order online. (I got mine from Dick Blick.)

  • the baby just wont stop moving lol but this is great thx for the lesson

  • how much did the pencial cost

  • portrait masta

  • Beautiful drawn.

but the head is a little bit too bread (If I spelled it correct).

  • what type of pencil is that ??

  • This is an excellent video for drawing techniques. Its great that you took the time to upload this.

  • that baby was very well behaved amazing drawing

  • not even close...maybe just hair

  • You try drawing an active baby, teaching a lesson on live TV, and directing a stucio at the same time - in less than ten minutes. You are nuts if you think that I put this here for your critique. It is here to encourage sketching metods, not to denonstrate photo-realistic balogne.

  • oh, ok sorry

  • @lonhaverly While I applaud your ability to draw a face in such a short window of time, I must disagree with your views on photorealism, being referred to as "baloney". Photorealistic drawing requires the most intense practice, skill level and observation of close details and replication of scale, placement, and shade of any pencil work. While I can sketch out an accurately imitated face of a model in minutes, drawing that same person with photorealistic quality can take me days. It is hard. :)

  • @lonhaverly Then why have the baby there if you are just going to draw a different face...?

  • @Appledude500 lets c u do better

  • Can i ask what pencil or drawing material did you use to draw?

  • as your draw does it depend how you use the pencil like holding it and pressing light?

  • Is it better to hold the pencil sort of loose like you have it? Because when I draw I usually hold it tight like when I'm writing something. Or is it different with everyone?

  • Control is the thing. You have to be able to get control of your lines, so that every line counts, and every line is expressive.

  • Yes, control is the thing. You must practice your line exercises, and develop an ability to control your strokes. THat way, you will not be making lines that you will want to erase. Each line will be accurate, each line will be expressive.

  • brilliant! i still need to practise for drawing skill, but this helped me a lot!

  • thats rerly good

  • why did you extend the baby's ear was the head tilted because it looked like you approched straight on 5/5

  • It is not a matter of just accuracy. It is a matter of expression and art. This is artist centered drawing, not form centered. I care more about the art than stiff accuracy. So I set limits, and that gives it style and jazz, not just rigid accuracy. The line is king, not the form.

  • @lonhaverly u didnt really have to use the baby as a model then. you pretty much drew from imagination regardless

  • i think the eyes need to be slightly closer and the cheeks are puffier..but other then that i think its awesome! i'm going to use a few of your techniques

  • A five minute pose is not going to be perfect. THat is not the goal. A likeness is more than just being accurate, but being expressive. That is where the line technique comes in. Expressive lines get the job done, not just photo realism.

  • OMG SO ADORABLE! YOUR AMAZING! My nephew moves alot, but he tends to repeat the same movement yet still hard to draw him (unless his asleep). The baby is so CUTE!

  • This artist is unreal, very natural and confident.Appreciate his style:

    Brad Robinson

  • Thanks, Brad, and all.

  • its difficult beacuse the baby is always moving.

and you have to know the correct human propotion to do that.

  • Thanks for sharing the video and your talent.

No excuses not to draw little Oscar now.
