  • Richie Cole and George Duvivier! Awesome comp!

  • Gotta love that jazz.

  • i can't get over how much i love this tune!

  • Hot!

  • Eddie Jefferson was truely a master of the vocal-eeze. I though Luba Rashik was a superb protage. Sadly, they both died well before their time and left a void yet to be filled.

  • JEANNINE! :D

  • I love this album , as a matter of fact I still have it and it packed away alone with many others, I love to be able to listen to it from a turn table.

  • @Jgrantism

Tune was written by Duke Pearson, not Duke Jordan

  • Just call it PITTSBURGH COOOL, from way back in the day ... The Real Jazz Singer. That's our man. Eddie Jefferson ... Hill District kinda guy!!!! Jeannine, writtten by Duke Jordan. Cannonball's version is also hip. Eddie is the ultimate BeBop singer ... vocalese? yepyep!!!

  • Nice one Hamish!!!

  • is it just me or does dude look like omar from the wire?

  • Eddie Jefferson was an institution that most people don't even know about. Pittsburgh born,if you want to know where rap started ,you are now listening to it.

  • @cackoboo I do. He died a pretty violent death, too. But we have his music to listen to and enjoy.

  • spettacolare unica formidabile eccitante

  • Hi hamishblues,

Can you post Eddie Jefferson's cover of Moody's Mood for Love? I lost my album, so don't have it any more.

    Thank you.

  • é semplicemente bellissimo!!

  • A great improvisor and creative genius! There will be no more Eddie Jeffersons, unfortunately!

  • @divadadde I wholeheartedly agree- this is when music was an intense healing force and the meoldies a soothing breeze for the soul

  • He had originally been a tap dancer, kevinherbert. Maybe that explains something about Eddie's great rhythm. Of course, he had an extraordinary ear and the ability to improvise at the drop of a hat as well.

  • è un figo!

  • haha my gf name is jeannine

  • The godfather of vocalise! Jefferson's life may have been tragically cut short, but his influence on jazz singing will be everlasting....

  • A great vocalist...i'll say it again..A GREAT VOCALIST!!!!!!

  • What a swingin' sweet gentleman. He didn't deserve being treated the way he was.

  • Treated how?

  • Shot and killed in a drive by in Detroit.

    That's How...

    He didn't deserve that.

A great talent and super guy.

    Another Bowery boy like me.

  • Great! I love the song and the music and the scatting near the end was a special treat. Thanks fo posting this!.

  • I loved Eddie Jefferson his music, his sound and interpretations - he was the Tenor Sax personified! I hate the fact he was tragically killed - in my home town, Detroit!

  • The Original BE-BOP POET!! I LOVE his rendition of Duke Pearson's JEANNINE... OUT OF SIGHT!! Eddie Jefferson may be gone from us physically but his MUSICAL VIBRATIONS REIGN ON!! Keep Swingin' EDDIE!!!

  • The Master of Jazz Lyrics! Eddie Jefferson laid the Train Tracks for all the Jazz Lyricists of the 40's 50's 60's and 70's. For all of you skeptics- ask King Pleasure who he listened to!!! Swing On Eddie!! WE LOVE YOU!
