  • This is so beautiful - and the combination of Harry Belafonte and Miriam Makeba is magic. I get sooooo homesick for Africa when I hear beautiful African songs like this......

  • @MINNIE1260 It's true. I don't understand Swahili but the melody and the voices brings tear to my eyes. The legends like Harry Belafonte & Miriam Makeba are heaven sent to give us beautiful songs. God Bless

  • My 6 year old daughter is called Malaika. I was told about this song by a paediatrician at Homerton Hospital, London in November 2004 when my daughter was 2 months old: I'd never heard of it before. I remember coming home and googling it. Needless to say, I fell in love with the song the moment I heard it. As for my daughter, she always asks if the song was written about her (I wish it was!) She really is my angel and we will always love this song.

  • I heard this song with The Brothers Four and liked it very much. And this one is beautiful too. Thanks for posting it.

  • What a grand song! And I recently found my kenyan malaika, and I dedicate that song to her. Thank you Kenya for the Lady and this song!

  • What a wonderful duet! Oh what a great song!!

Thanks so much to Africa for this song, thanks to Freddie who let me know it.

  • @mollisable, I do not understand your post at all. Would you say it again in a different way?

  • @tfire67 Do you know it better ? How come ? Since nobody knows what is really going on really, don't call others whatever.

  • @tfire67 Oops, that was Danny Glover who made that claim about the Haitian earthquake and climate change, not Belafonte. If you're going to slander, get your facts straight.

  • Fadhili Williams created this beautiful song! Much love!!!

  • This is sooooo beautiful. Grtz from Belgium.

  • Such warm voices! I love them since I was a child. Thank you for posting this title. Greetings from Germany

  • Asante sana!

    (nakupenda, erika)

  • No matter if one doesn't undesrtand the meanings. The music is perfect and the voices , beyond Words. H. Bellafonte and M. Makeba deserve more than congratulations. Thanks for uploading.

  • Hary is excelent !!!

  • It touches your heart, if you want or not.

    Greetings from Germany

  • what a beautiful song...indeed........

  • Good people dosnt last long, adieu Mama Africa,What a nice voice.

  • The Best Ever.

  • Pity about the sound engineering. There's too much bass in Belafonte's voice. But as for the song delivery by the two - words fail me. They could give voice lessons to many so-called "professionals".

  • Sorry - but both Harry and Miriam were 'professionals'!!

  • Unglaublich schön----from Germany

  • Miriam Makeba has consistently stated that this song was from Tanzania. People who live in East Africa know that this title was broiled in a copyrights tussle with Fadhili Wiliams - of Jambo Boys Band until an out of court settlement was made. Denying Fadhili Williams the credits therefore must have a response to the conflict.

  • I am disgusted that Fadhili Williams was denied the royalties. This song is from Kenya

  • WONDERFUL!

    EXCELLENT!

    Greetings from Georgia.

  • absolutely beautiful

  • Heavenly.

    So beautiful and mellifluous.

I wish I knew what it all meant.

  • look at the version by angelique kidjo (malaika) and it has words on the screen. Basically is a love story.

  • Look up the Angelique Kidjo version it has subtitles in it as she sings it. I think you'll love her rendition too, I say this as a Xhosa (Mirriam Makeba is Xhosa, so I am biased.)

  • So sweet, so soft... and yet so strong !

Those two beautiful voices bring peace.

    I just love them !

  • First heard this on the LP 'An evening with Belafonte and Makeeba:. I think it was Mr.Belafonte who gave her International exporsure. Mama Afrika~may her voice ring out for ever.

  • Muy bueno el tema como sus cantantes !!!

  • J'adore cette chanson tout en douceur comme le sont les voix des anges...les voix des malaïka. Les voix de Myriam Makeba et de Belafonte sont sublimes! Merci pour ce beau moment!

  • david and i are using this song for our wedding dance...if you're wondering why: david is afrikaner and i am filipina; our wedding is set on oct 10, 09 at the jardin de miramar a beautfiul garden venue in antipolo. it is a sunrise wedding attended only by our most intimate friends. thank you for this beautiful song, it will remain as our 'love song'..and remain with us together forever...

  • Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Love is something special and my wish is that you two live to cherish each other forever.

  • Congrats on your wedding, hope all went well. I am Xhosa South African living in the US, so I am even more excited for out guy, David. Tell him I said, veels geluk op jou troue.

  • @gizmo2961 good choice as a music for your wedding dance. i'm filipina too and became a big fan of miriam makeba. i;m going to south africa and egypt in september 2010

  • @gizmo2961 Good luck. You picked a beautiful song.

  • @gizmo2961 this was the wrong song to choose for a wedding. this is a song of lamentation because the man is poor and cannot afford to marry his bride because he doesnt have enough wealth.....the beats are good and the musicians are exceptional... nice song to listen to though. congrats on your wedding and i wish you a beatiful life together

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for sharing this lovely song with us. I may heard it before, but although I enjoy many other songs sung by Miriam Makeba as well as songs sung from Harry Belafonte, I didn´t know about this "collaboration". It is wonderful!

Got some tears in my eyes now... Thank you so much!

  • NICE....

ni samehe...mimi mhindi...si zungumzi swahili safi

  • Fadhili william is from kenya and he is from the coast province of kenya ,Taita tribe, some of his band members are still alive and geofrey ngao who played the saxophone in the song is my older brother so i know fadhili william from my child hood

  • Listen to Makeba in my Video pls!!...pure Tanzanian, just like many other songs that they claim is from Kenya!

  • Again, this video is not about whether the song belongs to Tanzania or Kenya . It is a celebration of the song. Needless to say, you guys are bickering over nothing. I mentioned that Fadhili williams was from Kenya and he was the FIRST to record the song in a studio. This doesn't necessarily translate to mean that the song was originally his or whether it was from Tanzania. So why don't we just agree that Fadhilli was a Kenyan who recorded a song originally from Tanzania. Happy everyone ???

  • @Makbelly especially since kenya and Tanzania pretty much have the same culture.I could never understand ppl who fight over petty stuff. it reminds me of a fight the italians and the French have over Yves Montand who is a french recording artist with an italian background.everyone claims the dead man and his songs lol!

  • @Makbelly thanks for being such a good host... ehhe :) i start to get picky with this people that over everything start crap wars...and therefore start wars myself...and that sucks :p lol :) thx for the song and the good will

  • Mesmerizing... :)

  • Fadhili Williams just by his name was not Kenyan. He was Tanzanian!

  • Just wonderful!!!! Thank you for posting this one.

  • Simply beautiful. Makeba is the mother of African music. She will be missed.

  • fantastique,c'est un mistère, cette defunte brave fêmme

  • The most beautiful of all Malaika versions, I think. I saw Miriam Makeba once life in Berlin and she was amazing!

  • very nice

  • Thank you Harry for helpng Miriam Makeba in her path. And your voices where so great together.

  • Fascinante canción,de mis favoritas,saludos.

  • please! visit my channel for true story about this song...!

  • What a beautiful version! Great duet!

  • The soul of Miriam Makeba is not at rest.

The soul of Miriam Makeba is ALIVE!

  • Bellissima, il sapore dell'Africa.

  • Simply magical. As Kenyan born I grew up hearing this song in the background. This rendition by these artists is breathtakingly good.

  • nice song.

  • I couldn't understand a word of the song. But it mesmerised me. That's the power of Belafonte. Cudos to Miriam too. She teamed up well with Harry to render this fine piece of music.

  • someone needs to do a movie about this woman she was so interesting

  • excellente chanson interprétée par un duo de grande classe

  • Remarkable
