this starts off as a good movie and gets progressively stupider as it goes on until by the end its full on ridiculous and has nothing to do with the film it started out as. Still worth a watch tho
I'm seeing a little bit of hate for this movie on here and I don't know why. A lot of people are saying that De Palma just rips off Hitchcock. While that is VERY true, that doesn't mean that De Palma's films aren't good. I have 49 Alfred Hitchcock movies on dvd and 18 Brian De Palma movies on dvd. I've seen almost every Hitchcock film outside of what I own and I've seen every De Palma film except for 2. De Palma is influenced by Hitch but that doesn't mean he isn't good. De Palma is very good.
I just saw this movie, expected it to be a rubbish hollywood take on Blow-up ( which iv recently seen and thought was great). I watched it because tarantino said it was in his top 3 movies and I actually thought it was amazing, the camera work was awesome and the 2 main leads really had some chemistry. Dont think a movie has ever overturned my expectations like this, highly recommended.
Man, now this is my kind of suspense thriller here. definitely Hitchcockian. I like trailers like this, especially where they take natural elements and make things seem dangerous. This reminds me of the trailers 'Blink' and 'Hear no Evil'...like Blow Out, those trailers will definitely send shivers up your spine.
@johnrunion I just couldn't believe how boring it was. I hate to use that word on a film, but it was just that: Boring. Lithgow is the only reason to watch.
@QuatermassMan i have never seen it, but yeah i have heard that it was boring often. thanks for the reply. depalma is just a hack. he is all flash and no substance. as you stated often he just rips on hitch.
Well, originally Tarantino was going to cast Michael Madsen as Vincent Vega in "Pulp Fiction" since he was supposed to be the brother of Vic Vega(Mr. Blonde) from" Reservoir Dogs," but Madsen turned it down, so Tarantino cast Travolta. Still, "Blowout" is a great fim. You should check it out!
@ebbowman yeah if you read into why Tarantino casted Travolta, it was because he liked the way he played in Blow Out so he just had to cast him in Pulp Fiction and it was a win/win situation.
What a nice way to memorialize your girl: use her recorded death scream as a sound effect in a porn flick. Thanks for enriching the world with this movie, Mr. DePalma.
This has to be one of my favorite John Travolta movies. I know I like every one of his movies, but this one is really really good. It doesn't get enough credit.
I saw this film when it first came out back in late '81 or early '82. All I can say is that "Blow Out" was terrific and I loved every minute of it. Travolta was great, the script was tops, and the dramatic pace was perfect. Highly, highly recommended.
Actually, saying that this is one of his best is underrating him! Almost all of his movies are so great, and he has clearly created his own style in film making!

Nancy Allen shouldn't have left from De Palma.
Only De Palma knew how Nacy could be most attractive as an actress.

Easily Travolta's finest performance, and best film he's ever been in.

This movie sucked! It was boring as hell and it was just De Palma stealing from Hitchcock...AGAIN.

You haven't? Quentin Tarantino lists "Blowout" as one of his three favorite movies of all time, and was a huge influence on him as a filmmaker.
44excalibur 1 year ago
Yeah, it's the reason he wanted to cast Travolta in Pulp Fiction. It looks like a good film, I will have to keep an eye out for it...
