Another post said Chris Costa gave birth to Chuck Norris ..I about fell outta my seat!! They need to send him to Iraq for 1 day to end the war. W.W.C.C.D. !!!
I took a tactical carbine operators course here in GA, taught by a former special forces operator. I'm interested in the differences of their ideas. Basically, the instructor told us that we should always assume empty, and if the chamber doesn't close or we know it's not empty, then cycle the bolt. Obviously, this takes place faster than explained...
I think both methods work though, definitely. There is no 'correct' method. There is incorrect, though, and that's ending up dead.
I have been on a large boat - and when the Coasties searched me they missed a lot! Since I'm not a smuggler I was nice and showed them some spaces they didn't know were there. Despite their stated claim of searching "everywhere", they didn't seem to know what a bilge is.
What you dont see is how light the FS2000 is compared to an M4. That FS2000 is less than 6lbs. Plus the overall length is the same as as a 10.5" AR15 but has 18.1" barrel. So you are getting velocity of 18" barrel but compactness of a shorty.
yea.... a few hours later.. i realized that it was an 18" barrel...
But for a bullpup design, I was thinking of urban combat where you don't need the range and power of an 18" barrel. But I guess for field use, that would be most ideal.
THANK YOU!!!! In every tactical carbine class there is alwasys at least one fat body.I would love to take a class like this, but I am in no shape to keep up.I'd be too tired to learn anything. The weight is slowly coming off,but untill I reach my goal,I'm not even gonna think about taking a class like this,I'd just end up embarrsing myself.
Why is that? The FS2000 performed awesome. You get 18" barrel velocity out of a rifle that is shorter than a 10.5" AR15.For CQB & going around barriers was awesome. The only reason i switched it cause i did not have sling for it so i could not transition to my secondary if i used it exclusively.I just took it out for a few drills to see how it performed and it excelled my expectations.Much reduced felt recoil compared to my AR15 due to bulpup design. Only disadvantage to AR is slower mag changes.
Also, it seems bulky (size, not weight). Does that have any impact on peripheral awareness. ie: Do you find yourself moving the gun out of your sight path more often to "look around"?
Nothing is "wrong" with the Coast Guard per se. Its just when it comes to somebody teaching me tactics with a weapon Id prefer somebody with some actual real world hands on experience. Costa did primarily law enforcement work. Travis Haley however was a Force Recon Marine, hes worked several PSD's, and he also worked for the now imfamous "Blackwater". Hes been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan numerous times also. Google Blackwater Najaf Sniper to see Haley in action.
Im not trying to bash Chris Costa by the way he is an amazing operator in his own right. Just after watching both of them on their "Art of the Tactical Carbine" videos Ive come to prefer Travis Haleys tactics and rifle accessories. Then after seeing limited action of him in Najaf and reading about what he actually did I was even more impressed.
tap rack roll... these drills should be the same...day and night. Its hard to see if its empty, stove pipe, double feed ect at night or in a dimly lit building.... just an observation.
Ok, well Ive always loved rifles that fire the 7.62x51 nato rounds. M14, FN FAL, and now this new FN SCAR H. Im really interested in buying it. I am in the military, and although ive trained with the 5.56 round my whole life, I would just rather have the larger round. Because, well, heh idk i just love the bigger badass 7.62x51. Im thinkin of buying the scar h and saving it for the Zombie Apocalypse. LOL!
No it is not, It is considered a Battle Rifle. Battle Rifles are higher caliber. (Scar H is a 7.62x51Nato). Although the Scar H short is only 7.9 lbs and has a 13in barrel. Which does make it a "Carbine". (The M4 Carbine is 14.5in)The heaver round would not make it very tactical. In a CQB environment you want something with more than 20 rounds and that Cartridge would essentially be over kill, since it has greater penetration thus not transferring the energy to the target and not killing them.
There is one coming up soon last time I checked? It was 400 for 2 days, and you get 1500 rounds I think. You have to bring your rifle with no less then 5 mags (rifle has to be chambered in certain caliber) and your sidearm with at least 3 mags
Where do you go to find out Magpul Classes? I love what the Magpul is all about I have seen Frontsight but it just sounds more of a DisneyWorld rather than one on one training what I am seeing from Magpul!
What I mean Disney its just not serious and extra costly to attend a seminar and listen to a 4 to a dozen instructors who are more Sportsmen Marksmen than actual war veteran or Federal Law enforcement with years of expierence like the magpul instructors. Not saying they don't have the level instructors. There things that these combat experience instructors can teach you that you couldn't learn from an instructor who hasn't had that level of intensity, yet! Vital details!
I"m not knocking the FN. Never shot it. I'm basing my insult on the footage 6:17 to 6:21. The reload sucks. It seems to me that you wanted to show off and bring a $2000 dollar gun. When an Ar platform would have been good enough. It's funny because you have an AR also. I guess you had just pulled the Fn out of the package, and didn't care about reload drills before the class. Because practice makes perfect, and I would have nothing to insult you about.
You are right. I have over 10 ARs, love em all but they are not the last word. FS2000 has advantages & disadvantages over the AR. On the negative, it doesn't have a drop free mag, it has to be pulled out while holding a release tab,the bolt doesnt stay open on the last shot so charging handle has to be racked. Reloads are slower compared to AR. However having 16" velocity out of a rifle that is size of a 10.5" AR, clean piston operation, adj gas op, ambi, and very mild recoil it excels in CQB.

First off whats with the HUGE guy, what tactical shooting would he be doing. That guy with the FN, LOSER. Its just a bunch of wannabe with nothing better to spend their money on. It must be nice to be the instructor, making bank on these losers

I like the emphasis on safety and all the range of shooting positions. But what is the actual aim of this course in terms of capability.
Anyone who takes this course would benifit from it. A hobby shooter, a person who owns a gun for home defense, Law enforcement, Military, whoever.
If you are motivated to learn and can afford to take these types of classes then I recommend doing so. It's one thing to own AR15 pattern weapons it's another thing to know how to run them effectively.
You got the price of the class right, but they don't provide you with ammo, lol. Do you know how much 3000 rounds of 5.56 costs? About $1200. Does that make sense now:)
I've a suspicion that the guy with the white t and grey pants may not be using a 5.56 or maybe even just hand loads cause the report from his gun isn't as sharp as the other rifles that can be heard. It makes more of a thud than the others do.
It's the civilian version of the FN2k, and shoots the 5.56. It might be a combination of the different muzzle break and barrel length, or different ammo make (if they're using different ammo), But it's 5.56
I was talking about that guys AR15 he uses slightly later in the vid, sorry should have been more specific. I'm pretty sure after listening to it a few more times hes using different loads to most of the others.
It looks like hes has his hand holding the side of the weapon with his index finger pointing along the weapon, this helps with reflex shots, point with the finger instead of aiming with the sites and fire.
he holds the grip, but he doesn't wrap his thumb around the vertical grip. he keeps it along the side of the foregrip. Also, he holds it more forward, which provides more muzzle control (which you want)
No it probably isn't. It would best be used as a target practice rifle. I mean seriously who needs the shell casings to eject at the FRONT of the rifle? The FN2000 also looks pretty heavy and hard to change mags.
it adresses two different dilemmas. first one being it's a bullpup so traditionally your casings would be ejected from a port at the rear of the gun, this is generally a safety concern for lefty's and the second being, it can be fired from outside a vehicle and have the brass ejected outward. for a driver this could help from having a floor full of brass when driving. hope that helps. most of the guns is polymer (its light) and yes the mags are sometimes a pain in the ass. deep mag well.
The truth is his MIT degree was a cover up but really he was a Navy Seal, then provided some VIP Protection then became a Mercenary, then he went to Black Mesa cause he needed some time to relax
Great video! Thanks!

I think you mean assault rifle. Battle rifles were like the Garand. Battle rifles kind of went out with the M14. Or M1A, whatever you prefer.
GregDotson 2 years ago
A scar H isn't a Assault rifle. It's a Battle rifle because of the huge cartridge it fires. The Scar-H uses the same cartridge that's in the M14.
A Assault rifle uses smaller intermediate-size cartridges.
Where as a Battle rifle is used for Long range and power. Such as Springfield 30-06, Mosin Nagant 7.62x54r, German 7.92x57 OR 7.62x51 NATO.
Although it can be considered both because of the short barrel making it assault size. It's still a Battle Rifle.

I agree w/ all that, but, its not really a combat proven design yet.
Looks like it ran like a champ in the class. Drive it until it breaks, and then assess what needs tweaking.
If youre a civvie, then great, P/O or GI, then stick to a proven design.
Most departments would demand that an officer use an M4 type design any way.

I believe the class is like 500 bucks for a 3 day course. I also think they give you like 3000 rds of rifle and 300 handgun rds.
drftndunks 2 years ago
You got the price of the class right, but they don't provide you with ammo, lol. Do you know how much 3000 rounds of 5.56 costs? About $1200. Does that make sense now:)

Oh haha, i must have read wrong... Now I know, anyone know if i get that Magpul single point sling? I want one for my AR15 setup.
drftndunks 2 years ago
I don't know why you'd be running an AR15 setup if you don't know how expensive ammunition is. Are you sure it's not an airsoft gun? ;)
fdsa7777 2 years ago
Like I said, I misread... and no I'm not usin an airsoft.
drftndunks 2 years ago
Don't worry, just jking.
fdsa7777 2 years ago
Haha, all good... but I do want the magpul sling.
drftndunks 2 years ago
Yeah, I was gonna say that if he was right, I'd sign up for the class just to get the ammo deal!

Anyone know what sling the instructor is
using?
24verdicts 2 years ago
I am pretty sure that it is a Magpul MS2 Sling.

Good luck with that.

I've a suspicion that the guy with the white t and grey pants may not be using a 5.56 or maybe even just hand loads cause the report from his gun isn't as sharp as the other rifles that can be heard. It makes more of a thud than the others do.
MacMeaties 2 years ago
It's the civilian version of the FN2k, and shoots the 5.56. It might be a combination of the different muzzle break and barrel length, or different ammo make (if they're using different ammo), But it's 5.56
MalkierMandragoran 2 years ago
I was talking about that guys AR15 he uses slightly later in the vid, sorry should have been more specific. I'm pretty sure after listening to it a few more times hes using different loads to most of the others.

are all of those carbines .223?

onexfivexone 2 years ago
Most likely. That FS2000 is, so are the AR 15's. Unless someone's usin' an AK, lol.

he has a very unique style of holding his gun? any reason why?
E6Jkobian 2 years ago
It looks like hes has his hand holding the side of the weapon with his index finger pointing along the weapon, this helps with reflex shots, point with the finger instead of aiming with the sites and fire.
Airsoftsniping101 2 years ago
he holds the grip, but he doesn't wrap his thumb around the vertical grip. he keeps it along the side of the foregrip. Also, he holds it more forward, which provides more muzzle control (which you want)

that FN 2000 doesnt look very practical
navysealsm4 2 years ago
No it probably isn't. It would best be used as a target practice rifle. I mean seriously who needs the shell casings to eject at the FRONT of the rifle? The FN2000 also looks pretty heavy and hard to change mags.
arandomperson3 2 years ago
it adresses two different dilemmas. first one being it's a bullpup so traditionally your casings would be ejected from a port at the rear of the gun, this is generally a safety concern for lefty's and the second being, it can be fired from outside a vehicle and have the brass ejected outward. for a driver this could help from having a floor full of brass when driving. hope that helps. most of the guns is polymer (its light) and yes the mags are sometimes a pain in the ass. deep mag well.
