OK, so, damp it all down so it sounds like anything OTHER than a banjo; makes sense... OH, COME ON! I admire Richie's playing but a banjo is supposed to RING (at least a LITTLE). The interviewer's silly comments about the fifth string being annoying are just plain stupid. It's a FIVE-string banjo. If you don't like a "drone", play a tenor or a plectrum banjo!
