  • Great great band, check out My Vitriols cover of Game of Pricks so good....

  • YYYEEEEAAAAAAHHHH!!!! GBV AT AMOEBA!!!

  • You could never be strong

    You can only be free

And I never asked for the truth

But you owe that to meee! :D.....

    D:

  • What a fucking band.

  • KÉ BASTO!

  • what a bunch of effing rock stars

  • High Kick, Microphone Whip. Every proto-hipster in crowd must have crapped his pants at the full Dayton fury that day...there is nothing more than this.

  • I wonder if he pulled something with that leg kick. Booze can't prevent soft tissue injuries; I should know.

  • @Darrenp73 he was a collegiate pitcher. pitched the first recorded no-hitter for his school. i'll bet he knows about stretching and warming up

  • both scissor kick and mic spin included for the full GBV experience

  • Shit. Those were the days. When GBV would put out an album and tour on a yearly basis. Ahhh. Memories.

I love this band so much.

  • i've been there!! woo! of course it was in 2001..

  • gbv are gods and alien lanes is my favourite album,

  • Comment removed

  • tigerbomb ep version > alien lanes version?

both are great. but tigerbomb one is the Tiger Bomb.

  • "I've entered the 'Game of Pricks' with knives in the back of me".......

    sounds like Wall Street shenanigans......

I love these guys and this song is so right on.........

  • and yes...I am aware that "donkey school" is a Tobin song...

  • i dunno...gbv made ALBUMS...the song order and album as an entire piece is why I can keep listening to them and never be bored....the snippets like "auditorium" and "donkey school' and the like made the albums that much more odd, cool, and intruiging. If they just churned out catchy, perfect little pop diities all the time they wouldn't be nearly as special to me, or to Bob. He knows what he's doing and thank hell for that.

  • @lapdogwilly you inspired me to sign in just so i could upvote and agree with your comment

  • what a feeling of wellness and euphoria ,please let it last untill the next track drpos yall

  • fucking awesome song!

  • this song catch the essence of Beatles+Ramones at the same time.. great song!

  • Who cares about hit singles? How about great albums with the consistency of bee thousand. There is no good reason to sabotage your albums by including a few shit songs. Personally im not bothered by this. i love gbv but i think it explains why bob isn't widely held up as one of the great songwriters of our time.

  • I get the impression that gbv have just about more good songs than any other band ever but robert pollard tended to release just about every song he ever wrote even the bad ones which made most of the albums patchy. if they had only put their best songs on the albums they would have been really important, because god knows they have enough great songs. As it is they still influenced alot of bands. Im sure for alot of people im stating the obvious here.

  • if all they released were 'hit singles', they wouldn't be our band anymore, but MTV's and VH1's, and clearchannel's. i like that they recorded way, way too much. it's evident that they were prolific, and not success driven. i love it.

  • Is this their best song?

Its fuckin good, and its used in an episode of a UK comedy (the it crowd).

    proper tune!

  • they have at least 50 more songs of this quality

  • I LOVE THIS SONG! I only have the jimmy eat world cover, but now it's like a whole guided by voices phase has started...

  • Hey, some guy requested this song on KSCU, but we didn't have it, so I played this instead. Thank you for filming it and putting itonline!

  • Check Doug Gillard's sunglasses falling on his face at the end of the song !!

  • I like the playing in my basement Bob Pollard better than the rock star one.

  • i do too sometimes, it's cuz half his lineup is a bag of flaming shit on your neighbour's doorstep.

  • GBV is criminally underrated.

  • @shabulojenkins I don't know about that...their good albums (and we all know which ones those are) are cherished a great deal by a sizeable enough group of people across the world.

  • @shabulojenkins There was me thinking the were highly acclaimed and held in especially high regard, by many fans and jounarnists?

  • brilliant!

  • man im only 16 yet i love these guys. i wish they were still around

  • Don't hold your breath, but my guess is that they'll get back together someday.

  • Oh.

    My.

    God.

    Whattafuckingband!!!

  • 'Bee Thousand ' and 'Alien Lanes' are easily two of the best albums in music history, any genre... what a roll they were on!

  • i know, once i get my itunes allowance im going to buy as many of their albums as i can

  • @hailtothevictorz agree 100%

  • @hailtothevictorz agreed

  • @hailtothevictorz I could not agree more. I have a ticket to see the "Reunion Tour" in Atlany\ta in October. Cannot Wait!

  • @TheNewGuy7575 how much was a ticket to that show?

  • @nscuriel Face value is $27.50, but more like $33 with all the fees.

  • @hailtothevictorz yep. Those were my favorite two of theirs for a long time until I got Propeller and Under the Bushes, Under the Stars. Four in a row for them.

  • @hailtothevictorz

    i totally agree

  • does anyone else hear anything similar to the Beatles when they listen to this song?

  • Hahahah, the first couple seconds almost sound like Helter Skelter, but I can kinda see a similarity between some GBV and The Beatles. Two fantastic bands regardless :)

  • most pop music sounds similar in one way or another, but gbv is way better

  • yes, i've thought that for years! from the first time i heard "motor away". This song is another good example..

  • the only winning factor between GBV and the Beatles is time..

but i love gbv way more anyway

  • alright GBV are great no denying that but come on lets not exaggerate their importance too much, the beatles are on a level only matched by the likes of elvis and bob dylan, i just think we should be reasonable in comparisons.

  • @ilike999999999

VEry important to rock and roll fans- thats what matters.

Many of these"icons" made absolute shit and never would have made it in MTV internet days.

GBV may not be the beatles or Dylan- but they are certainly better than, say- the DOORS or Grand funk- they slaughter the eagles, journey, metallica, etc and the list goes on. In a world that was not run by people who made "air supply" and "kansas" famous- what the fuck do you expect?

  • This is great...anybody here seen or heard Riding The Low (fronted by Paddy Considine)? I can definately see the GBV influence in that band...even the way Bob moves on stage.

  • the line "i never asked for the truth but you owe that to me" is officially the best line ever

  • yep i'm with you

  • Your got that out of the pitch fork 500, you unoriginal prick..

  • Wow how harsh. Not everyone is an indie hipster. & that is the best line ever you douchebag. Yes, that is a reference to the option zine 1996. eat me.

  • i had never heard of guided by voices till i read that... now i m listening to them so meh

  • why can i only find this live i herd it on it crowd and that was obviously a recordin

  • not sure but I think this track is off of GBV's "alien lanes" album.

  • in the intro, Bob says, "It's an old song from the album Alien Lanes"!

  • this is f'ing CLUTCH but a different than the album version right? i like this better with the long intro. nice nice nice

  • I must say thank to jimmy eat world because thank them now I know Guided by voices and they are pretty good

  • ...and good luck finding him sober.... lol

  • no band can indeed compare... I must say I would have to crawl on my hands and knees just to lick the grazny vonny boots of king shit bob..... and i would.... lol

  • Perhaps biggest rnr band ever....

  • is this family fued or just a band contest

  • Contest??? If this were a contest they'd have won a thousand times! Oh you fail claudius1964!

    This is GUIDED BY VOICES!!!

  • GBV! GBV!!!!! ahhhhhhhh!!!!

  • give me a break, strokes's got 2-3 songs that i can recall. how about ~50 by GBV. this one's classic!

  • The Stokes are big fans of GBV. IIRC one Strokes video shows them competing against GBV in Family Feud! :D

  • dude... the strokes are fine but GBV is... GBV. They simply kick crazy amounts of raw ass and did so for about 20 years. Come back and talk to me in 2016 and see if the strokes are still pumping out new and worthy material... hell, I hope they do. GBV shouldn't be the only ones.

  • Amen! I was lucky to have been drug to a GBV during the farewell tour. I stood there the entire time with my mouth hanging open and when it was over screamed rock and roll still lives.

  • I don't know if The Who ever heard these guys but if they did they would have been proud to inspire such a band

  • please... stop comparing the fucking awful strokes with pixies and GBV... thanks

  • what a great great song !!! skol from germany

  • what did robert pollard teach at school? was it "classic rock moves" class?? dig that swirlling mic!

  • it's called have fun and rawk onnnnnnnnnnnnnn

  • Is there Roy from The IT Crowd on the left with guitar? :>

  • no, but wasnt this in it, the song

  • got my circus devils and 60 assholes and a pissbucket tour t-shirts.... sister saw them in nyc.... too late for me... they never toured in fl.

  • May someone give me some info about their 1986's LP "Devil between my toes". Is it Bob pollard singing on that record?? cause'sometimes it doesnt sound like him at all.. tnks

  • it is him, but it sounds more like michael stipe doesn't it?

  • I video taped this, I'm just wondering how it got on here, King shit

  • that was a great kick at the beginning... just for that it might go in my favorites...

  • Saw the Strokes open for GBV in Philly years ago. Not impressed. Long live Pollard

  • I love both bands. The Strokes are a great new band, but GBV are the kings.

  • lol great "new" band

  • Well, GBV have been around since 1983 and the Strokes first record was in 2001, so do the math.

  • Mmmm... as of right now... these two bands can´t even be compared.... let the strokes make anthems such as GBV´s songs... for over 20 fucking years...

  • Goosebumps!

  • omg this song is so great! I love also the cover by my vitriol. thank you filming this

  • man i luv this song

  • short story pixies play reunion gig at english festival with the strokes watching from the side of the stage pixies show was amazing the strokes burst onto the stage like men possessed and blow their heroes away in under 60 mins crowd plead for encore the strokes play salty salute doesnt really get much better than that

  • i'd give my left arm to see the pixies live.

  • i saw them in spain between a mountain range and the sea lots of locals were scattered on the hillside dancing around fires, great enviroment amplified the likes of nimrods son and vamos

  • Idiot.

  • fook you

  • lol.... i'd kill to see them play salty salute.

  • key word: reunion. strokes in 04 (or whenever it was) could never match up to the pixies in their prime.

  • pixies were way better band in a venue and strokes were much better outside at the festivals theres some mega live performance vids of the pixies knocking about, thats the only thing i c an judge was still at first skool when the pixies were rippin the place up

  • you and your saggy fuck mother.

  • Sure, and you're 18, fresh out of high school.

  • man there something wrong w/ you if you don't like king shit bob.

  • Waa! Did you click on something you don't like? You know what I do when that happens? I MOVE ON.

  • this song rules

  • I wish he was my fourth grade teacher

  • Damn, Bob went gray fast.

  • at least he still has his hair.....

  • it was grey during under the bushes but he dyed it.

  • and that previous comment was a response to XPunk- damn youtube buttons dont work...

  • Too good. Alien Lanes is too good. Dayton is a shit town, but look at the good it produced. The Wright brothers can go to hell, though. Love, Julius Tre

  • hahaha i love it when he dances

when i think ok GBV i think of this song

    thanks love it =]

  • Ace

  • This makes me happy.

  • go die

  • f*ck your superstitious bullsh*t- what is this 1807 or 2007?

  • holy shit, i just noticed doug's glasses cleanly falling into place at the end of the song.

  • lol :-)

  • I like guided by voices and this song especially...

but i'm not sure about pollards 'kicks' though....

  • Oh come on man, the kicks make the man :)

  • god. he looks so young compared to now.

  • amazing. bob and doug especially are in top form.

  • friggin awesome

  • I Can´t say "this is the best song by GBV" cause they have so many others goos songs but this is one of them for sure! Great video

  • You're thinking of "Big Boring Wedding" from "Under the Bushes Under the Stars" with the line "Pass the word, the chicks are back"

  • Best song by best band ever -- saw them live in 95, 96 and 97 -- WOW

  • I'm having trouble, what's the GBV song with lyrics "tell the kids, the chicks are black" I can't find it but heard it on the radio.

  • I don't think I've ever seen RP un-drunk. This is a good one.

  • holy shit!! thanks!

  • No problem, I only wish I had more GBV videos.

  • Cheers pal, that's a REAL pop song.

  • Brilliant! High kicks and everything! Guided by Voices were the real deal.

  • GBV are so freakin' amazing. I can't believe I never got to catch them live. Thanks for posting this!

  • Best video I've ever seen ever!

Besides the 1998 Brain Chunks live tour videos, of course
