I don't see how anybody could dislike this video...even if you absolutely hated this game, there's no way anyone could hate this music. By far my favourite world in DK64.
im 13 and surrounded by people listening to terrible music and playing terrible games. my brother and sister bought their nintendo 64 the day i was born, so i grew up playing great games like this. i wish others could experience that joy
This is the music that plays at the beginning of an early 90's movie where a kid is about to experience his first day at middle school. This plays as soon as he wakes up, gets dressed, eats breakfast and so on.
CoD is fun, take your nostalgia goggles off and accept it. It's the highest selling game ever and the game play is just down right fun, still..I think all of us can bring a little something from our childhood from hearing this. Ah memories
The problem is just how many of these games there are. I can't believe there's a MW3, which is what, the 5th game or something? Games like this are not long forgotten. It's not bad to have a FPS, but it does start to once it becomes the definition of "video game".
I'm so happy I grew up with these kind of games. I was born in 91 but it took me years before finally getting a N64. I would see all my friends get it except me. I remember I had to exchange pokemon cards with a friend for him to let me play Goldeneye 64. But at least I played. I still have my N64 and I'm still playing it today. Good times... Good memories.
this is one of the 4 beta levels in banjo kazooie. The rumor is that it was taken out due to the release date of banjo kazooie. If you played banjo kazooie's click clock wood was it mossy? nope. the fact that the puzzle picture was far away from click clock wood is weird. But the puzzle picture was where the entrance to fungus forest easy suppose to be.
@TheInsideOutsiders it lets you play some games that you cant play without it like donkey kong and perfect dark it helps alot....its like a big memory card
Oh God, nostalgia. The best part was as a kid I liked this level so much because it was like, "This level is nothing like the other levels. It's almost like it wasn't supposed to be in this game at all."
Then I found out when I was older that this level was supposed to be in Banjo Kazooie but didn't make the cut so they threw it in here.
@LucG95 I'm so lucky, i used to watch my dad and sisters play Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Donkey Kong 64, Mario Party, Mario Kart, Mark golf, Majora's mask, Ocarina of Time... I love those games. I still have my N64 and my SNES in my basement and i play them from time to time. I even got one of my friends to download BK on Xbox Live :D
@NickAura You know the "Recent Activity" that you see on profiles? I saw "*name here* disliked a video" on their profiles not too long ago, and it was this one.

Alice beat this stage in like 20-30 minutes, including the boss, all on her first playthrough. She went through the game in 5 hours. She beat it all 101% in 8 hours overall.
I WANT TO GO BACK.... I WANT TO GO BACK IN TIME!!!! PLEASE LET ME GO BACK IN TIME!!!! ='( my life sucks now.... please let me go back to the good gaming years of my early teens.........

what I want to know, Is HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU COMPOSE SOMETHING LIKE THIS??! It's glorious! I mean, I can make a melody, and some better than others, but this is organized in a way that you need like, the whole flippin' tune in your head, perfectly written at once or something!
@ramlood Yeah bro! I searched this song because i was playing banjo-tooie and the one area in witchy world reminded me of this song, with the bird sound fx and stuff like that!
I'm 17 and I've been playing N64 continuously since I was 4… and this is probably my favorite soundtrack of all those years. Wonderful piece of music – and simply awesome game as well!

Like I said I'm unsure if this level is the same Fungus Forest that was going to be used for Banjo-Kazooie. Anyone know if it is? I know Rare said in one interview that they said it was but I can't confirm that being as I have no idea which interview that is. And I mean so many people disagree that it is that I don't know what to believe. Ah well no denying that this world has a relationship with Banjo-Kazooie even if it's not the same world, it'd be a little sad if I found out *2bcont.*
*Continued* it'd be a little sad if I found out this wasn't the same Fungus Forest that was going to be in Banjo-Kazooie only reused for this game but it still would be My favorite world still due to it having a relationship with Banjo-Kazooie since this world is where the idea for Fungus Forest at least led to this world's creation.
Fungi Forest is My favorite world in this game (I played on the Project 64 emulator but not to worry I ordered the actual game off eBay with the expansion pack included because I'm tired of all of Project 64's issues with DK64) mostly because it has a relationship with another Rareware 3D platforming game that I enjoy, Banjo-Kazooie's stage that never came to be called Fungus Forest back when Rare was still making Project Dream. I'm not sure if Fungi Forest is the same stage taken *2bcont.*
*Continued* I'm not sure if Fungi Forest is the same stage that was Fungus Forest taken out of Banjo-Kazooie and stuck here in DK64 or a completely new stage just inspired by Fungus Forest but either way this stage does have a relationship with Banjo-Kazooie which is just plain cool, and one of the reasons (well mostly My main reason) it's My favorite world in this game.
another thing about the n64, i think about as i listen to this music, is that this was the last in the era of 'classic games'. a bittersweet time when some of the greatest games ever (Zelda: OoT, Super Mario 64, etc.) were being played around the world by kids everywhere, but a simpler time was fading away. this was the last of that great age.
@KingdomAtWar I agree. Now look at all the games nowadays. Every once and a while a game almost as good pops up from the ground, but this was the golden age. Now all you see is first person shooters.
Gosh, this track has such a beauty to it! I'm in college, but I have found that most of the new video games out today lack both the imagination, refinement, and sense of wonder that formerly populated games (excluding Nintendo's recent efforts, of course), so lately I've been replaying all the classics (mostly by Rareware) from that period. It's been a great, albeit bittersweet experience.
for a video game song this is actually pretty good music. i think if grant kirkhope wanted to, he could work the material in this song into the first movement of a symphony, or something. and the bits with the mallet percussion would make it sound like something modern.
there is something about nintendo that activates something inside all of us...the freshness of childhood, a certain very unique magic. it touches all of us, especailly we who have fond memories of playing N64 as kids...it is blurry, yet perfect. like a dream. long live nintendo, mario, dk, link, and evry other unforgettable character who brought that magic to our childhoods...!
You spelled Rare wrong :P Rare is one of the few devs who had/still have the ability to immerse the player into their world. The music makes me, like everyone else who listened to it, warm, and content. It reminds me, and others of the childhood we once knew, and just how incredibly easy life was back then......
Oh how I wish it was my birthday when I received this game all those years ago.....I really never thought I would grow up. None of us did.
i like it because it reminds me of better days but then i hate it because of the same reason and how no video games these days have come close to bringing me the same joy that the n64 did hahaha
hm... youre right. On the one hand you think "Oh great! I heard this song 12 years ago." but on the other hand it is sadly that the time is over and you think about that great time :(
Excellent comment. Nintendo is truly special... they were part of my childhood growing up and they will always be part of my life. A truly beautiful and special company
@KingdomAtWar Couldn't have said it better myself, indeed the N64 days were friggin' golden. And not just Nintendo; whenever both Nintendo AND Rare conjured up a project, almost always it became a masterpiece that would, in later years, be full of nostalgia. My heart was broken when Rare left Nintendo.
@KingdomAtWar I couldn't agree more but with how fast Microsoft is taking things, Nintendo doesn't have much choices too do in order too compete with besides the thrown together New super Mario Brothers Wii/Mario
Galaxy 2 crap. *Sigh* I don't see Nintendo lasting too much longer and its only cause everyone is blinded by games like CoD and Halo for Xbox360. Ok there fun but they don't really deliver the gaming experience Nintendo did. Besides, Microsoft over charges a lot and people feed into it
@Unworkable34 U know, i gotta disagree... as much as dk64 will always hold that soft spot in my heart, ive had great memories playing halo with my friends. and tbh, nintendo is still leading strong in the game industry. mario galaxy and galaxy 2 were both amazing, and galaxy 2 is one of (if not the) highest rated games ever. new super mario bros wii brought hectic sidescrolling to a new audience, so take that w a grain of salt. Still, nintendos running strong. keep the faith, develop ur tastes.
@KingdomAtWar Nintendo still has a chance. Donkey Kong Country was just flat out pure amazing so I still believe in them. And CoD and Halo are fun but there also abused more. Having too always pay for crappy map packs and retarded add ons for avatars that nobody ever looks at is just a scam that works for Microsoft. And their winning only cause people pay for everything. Now they have Kinect and xboxlive thought cell phones while Nintendo has a choice too make. Do what their doing or dolike them
there's always a world in every Donkey Kong game that rubbed me the wrong way and was really weird yet really memorable to me. Fungi Forest was that level in DK 64.
In Donkey Kong 3 it was Razor Ridge and in Donkey Kong 2 it was the Bramble Scramble level...
I'm 15 and I still grab my Nintendo 64 and take it for a "reminisce trip" every once in a while. My sister is farther than me in this game...
-_- ...but still. The music and overall "feel" of the 90's gaming era is better than today's, in my opinion. Ahh, I remember the good ol' days... Games like Super Mario 64 and Starfox 64 had some pretty deep music ("Dire, Dire Docks" and "Training Mode"). I'm thinking of creating some classic remakes in Game Maker. *tears of joy*
@konnor009 Agreed, I hate how nowadays developers can just cover any old piece of shit up with mind popping graphics. Back in "The Day" a game lived and died on its gameplay and the games were better off for it. Today, most developers have turned into big companies perfectly willing to shaft their gamers for all he money they can suck up (*cough* wii *cough*). When you play a classic game you can tell the developer really cared about that game and liked it just as much as you. Classic games have
@Theftz22 an element of difficulty that they just don't have in modern games. There are some games I still have not beat 8 years after starting them. Another thing is that 2D games specifically have that element of almost frustrating, addictive difficulty that 3D games don't have. It's hard to describe but you know what I'm talking about. It's that feeling of, one more life, just one more try. I miss classic gaming
I used this song for a music theory presentation XD
For you music lovers out there: According to my theory teacher, this is in the key of C Lydian

@KingdomAtWar I agree. Now look at all the games nowadays. Every once and a while a game almost as good pops up from the ground, but this was the golden age. Now all you see is first person shooters.

I wonder if Grant Kirkhope sees the comments on these videos... I just feel like someone needs to show him what an effect he's had on so many people.
If there is a god, it's Grant Kirkhope.

I used to just sit around and listen to this song without playing at all... It would suck when you had to play during the Nighttime version...

this is very good music. grant kirkhope could easily expand this into a first movement of a symphony, if he wanted... i kind of want him to...

loved the old rareware games like Banjo Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64, and Conker's Bad Fur Day.
joeslickback 2 years ago 5
@joeslickback It just sucks that they work for Microsoft now. Its the first time I actually hated a game made by Rare. Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts.

YoknapatawphaKid 2 years ago 6
thank grant kirkhope for this
who8mahbacon 2 years ago 2
for a video game song this is actually pretty good music. i think if grant kirkhope wanted to, he could work the material in this song into the first movement of a symphony, or something. and the bits with the mallet percussion would make it sound like something modern.

there is something about nintendo that activates something inside all of us...the freshness of childhood, a certain very unique magic. it touches all of us, especailly we who have fond memories of playing N64 as kids...it is blurry, yet perfect. like a dream. long live nintendo, mario, dk, link, and evry other unforgettable character who brought that magic to our childhoods...!
KingdomAtWar 2 years ago 108
"there is something about nintendo"
You spelled Rare wrong :P Rare is one of the few devs who had/still have the ability to immerse the player into their world. The music makes me, like everyone else who listened to it, warm, and content. It reminds me, and others of the childhood we once knew, and just how incredibly easy life was back then......
Oh how I wish it was my birthday when I received this game all those years ago.....I really never thought I would grow up. None of us did.

i like it because it reminds me of better days but then i hate it because of the same reason and how no video games these days have come close to bringing me the same joy that the n64 did hahaha

Same. It's like it feels good to go back to the good times but then it makes me sad that I'll never experience it again.

hm... youre right. On the one hand you think "Oh great! I heard this song 12 years ago." but on the other hand it is sadly that the time is over and you think about that great time :(

@austin2460 lol, there were guns in dk64...not realistic ones, but their still were, u know?

@KingdomAtWar yes but they didnt make it the whole game.

Excellent comment. Nintendo is truly special... they were part of my childhood growing up and they will always be part of my life. A truly beautiful and special company
TheMarkOfTheBeast1 1 year ago 3

Besides, Microsoft over charges a lot and people feed into it
Unworkable34 1 year ago
@Unworkable34 I agree whole heartedly on the CoD Xbox thing
StarGalaxy777 1 year ago
@Unworkable34 U know, i gotta disagree... as much as dk64 will always hold that soft spot in my heart, ive had great memories playing halo with my friends. and tbh, nintendo is still leading strong in the game industry. mario galaxy and galaxy 2 were both amazing, and galaxy 2 is one of (if not the) highest rated games ever. new super mario bros wii brought hectic sidescrolling to a new audience, so take that w a grain of salt. Still, nintendos running strong. keep the faith, develop ur tastes.
KingdomAtWar 1 year ago
@KingdomAtWar Nintendo still has a chance. Donkey Kong Country was just flat out pure amazing so I still believe in them. And CoD and Halo are fun but there also abused more. Having too always pay for crappy map packs and retarded add ons for avatars that nobody ever looks at is just a scam that works for Microsoft. And their winning only cause people pay for everything. Now they have Kinect and xboxlive thought cell phones while Nintendo has a choice too make. Do what their doing or dolike them

Flodder450 2 years ago
there's always a world in every Donkey Kong game that rubbed me the wrong way and was really weird yet really memorable to me. Fungi Forest was that level in DK 64.
In Donkey Kong 3 it was Razor Ridge and in Donkey Kong 2 it was the Bramble Scramble level...
1iquid777 2 years ago 3
I'm 15 and I still grab my Nintendo 64 and take it for a "reminisce trip" every once in a while. My sister is farther than me in this game...
-_- ...but still. The music and overall "feel" of the 90's gaming era is better than today's, in my opinion. Ahh, I remember the good ol' days... Games like Super Mario 64 and Starfox 64 had some pretty deep music ("Dire, Dire Docks" and "Training Mode"). I'm thinking of creating some classic remakes in Game Maker. *tears of joy*
konnor009 2 years ago 8
@konnor009 Agreed, I hate how nowadays developers can just cover any old piece of shit up with mind popping graphics. Back in "The Day" a game lived and died on its gameplay and the games were better off for it. Today, most developers have turned into big companies perfectly willing to shaft their gamers for all he money they can suck up (*cough* wii *cough*). When you play a classic game you can tell the developer really cared about that game and liked it just as much as you. Classic games have
Theftz22 2 years ago 3
@Theftz22 an element of difficulty that they just don't have in modern games. There are some games I still have not beat 8 years after starting them. Another thing is that 2D games specifically have that element of almost frustrating, addictive difficulty that 3D games don't have. It's hard to describe but you know what I'm talking about. It's that feeling of, one more life, just one more try. I miss classic gaming
