The idea shouldn't only be, "This will help gay kids to have a role model to relate to". It should also, and no less importantly, be aimed at highlighting the contributions of LGBT people to Western history (to the world's history, actually), in the same way it's part of California's curriculum today to teach the contributions of Black people and Mexican Americans to the US culture in general, and to that State in particular.

Considering this was Fox, I'm surprised they allowed a rebuttal of the FRC at all. Then that means that it really was NOT mentioned in the Bible by God and it is just man adding it to translations in the last 2 decades. Sprigg is right that "gayness" was only a concept from the late 19th century onward - before then, everyone believed as he does, that everyone is straight, really, and gayness was just sin. Then they medicalised it ("homosexuality" as sickness) until the 1960s and the liberation movements. I foresee this being implemented in a way that is much more inclusive, adding LGBT history to history curriculum across the board. Today, the presentation of LGBT history in schools is practically non-existent. That does a disservice to all students, not just LGBT ones.

History studies ought to be focused on the facts of what happened, who they happened to, who made them happen and why they happened. You can't really understand the contributions of a John Adams unless you also understand his interactions with his wife, Abigail. When you discover that John Hancock was gay (see "The First American Republic" by Tom Chorlton), it gives us new insight into his life during the revolution. Sprigg wants to rewrite history; gays just want to tell the full story.
