Max was the good guy. He started as a cop, a highway patrol officer with Main Force Patrol, but was pushed over the edge when his wife and child were murdered by a biker gang. He later roamed the waste lands and probably went a little crazy, but was always the good guy.

In Mad Max and Beyond Thunder Dome Max was a good guy. In Road Warrior he is only out to help himself and refuses friendship from anyone else. He leaves a guy tied up in the dessert with no intention of coming back for him. He even says he is only in it for the gas when he rescues one guy and takes him to the compound. I think he turned into a bad guy and that makes it interesting. If I was rich I'd get me that kind of old Mustang, paint it black and put gas tanks in the trunk.

I don't know much about Samurais but Max isn't a gun for hire. Max is a decoy. Max planes on taking the gas for himself. The leader of the good guys is smart enough to know that and uses it to his advantage. Max thinks he is running off with the gas. Instead he is leading the bad guys off on a wild goose chase.

I asked Vernon about that. The original opening of the film had the Humungous' gang attacked a farmhouse. Wez took the infant that was left alive with him and raised him as his son. George Miller chopped it out, leaving it looking like they were lovers. So yeah, it was George's intention, but not Vernon, who played it as the Golden Youth was his son.

Ive met Vernon at a RoadWar U.S.A run, ive asked him about it. After i read the thing about the relationship of Wez and the Golden Youth and all i got was "what do you think they were?" in response.

And yeah, I think Georges intention was to make the gang like the gang in MM1, sexually ambiguous and uncaring of who they slept with. To make them more menacing.

That guy on the chopper that gets run over by the rig is straight, they show him doing that chick when the rig goes through the camp. Most of them are gay though. Same with the first movie, but not as much. They'd fuck men or women, as proven by the couple in the Impala after they almost run over Toe Cutter and his gang chases them down.

Yeah I didn't realize it as a kid but it's pretty clear to me now they're gay. It's also based on the whole gang thing that people were scared of in the 70's & 80's. There were stories about biker gangs going around murdering and raping people, men and women alike. At least in America, I don't know if that was in Austrailia to. Never the less they're cool classic movies, even if they are dated and the dialog is "c grade" at best. You can still enjoy the cool cars, and atmosphere.

The "good" gang though, has plenty of female characters, including the blonde that gets arrowed on the rig. The "Bad" gang has a few female members and they do rape the woman they capture as well. I think its more of a prison culture, since there aren't many women, they just bone anything with two legs.
