Girl I could NOT have said this better myself, THANKS FOR INSPIRATION
1 year natural and Let me just say When I first started I would flat iron any newgrowth I got, then I realized if I'm gunna go natural why the hell am I trying to cover it up? I might as well throw a relaxwer in it! this vid really inspired me, I threw thet flat iron away and now my hair is so much healthier and its GROWING! no more relaxed barely-touching-shoulder length hair =]
i've been natural 3 years ppl r always asking am i going to get a perm NO my hair is so much healthier natural and the reason i stopped getting them was because of random breakage my hair would be ok then i'd put a perm in and notice theres a lot of hair missing i'd rather be natural than bald any day wish i never had a perm
Very nice and inspiring vid. Most balck women allow the media and society to define or dictate what real beauty is. First it starts from within, allowing God's love to radiate and accepting it. Then others will see that and love you because you love you. Very nice vid. Keep inspiring sistas out there of all nationalities and ethnicities. We go through so much in this world under false impressions of what beauty is. Love yourself as God loves you. God Bless!
@BlessedOne425 Thank you so much. I really appreciate that. You couldn't have said it any better...much love to you too, nice to hear from you and hope you keep in touch :-)
added other reasons for going natural, like length retention, self glorification, desire to be part of the impetus that changes beauty perceptions... But yeah, I luv luv luv me some natural hair - it is absolutely beautiful to my sight!!!
@maximuslyricus This was so nice to hear!!! I'm glad that you're enjoying your journey as much as I am. I haven't heard of herflyness79, will look her up, sounds like she has lovely hair :-) LOL @ your relaxed hair turning into sour grapes in your mouth, I can SO relate! Now, I never have a bad hair day :-)
Good morning Mylaylay! Thanx for sharing your 10 reasons! The first and foremost reason I went natural is because natural hair is Beautiful! I didn't know what I was looking at at the time, but when I saw Herflyness79's hair - my relaxed hair - which I had previously been happy with - turned to sour grapes in my mouth! Two weeks later, upon visiting Herflyness79's vid for the umpteenth time, and learning that her hair was natural, there was no other choice for me - I had to go natural! Later I
@maximuslyricus Ok, I checked out her videos, she has some beautiful thick hair!!! I can see what you mean now :-) Thanks for sharing! Keep in touch! :-)
love your vids and i subscribed to your channel , your very informative, for your edges use jamaican black castor oil, it will bring them back fast it worked for me and chescaloc also use this oil and it brought her edges back . later diva
@antoinettesmith281 Thank you so much! I did see that video too and will see if I can find some at a local health store...I'm glad you decided to subscribe and want to personally welcome you to my journey (all of them)...keep in touch and happy happy new year!! <3<3
Yeah one time my mom was putting a perm in my hair. I was probably 8 and I was getting it straight. I said it was burning really bad and my mom said "you can suck it up for a few more minutes". When we washed it out I had scabs on my head and I was crying. But eventually my scalp healed but I'm not going to get another perm ever again.
@Alima6789 true i had that this year ! when my mom/ neighbor was getting my hair permed for prom... you're right burns...it burns in a weird way to me .... i had to moisterize my hair and wash it to where i was able to brush my hair again...freakin annoying lol i havent permed my hair yet..i will for spring ..dont worry perms will do that we'll learn fromm experience just get it professionally done . faster and so much better :)
i do perms but i dont go by perm rules!! i perm on special occasions like prom or photographs then while they're in braids. my hair grows more and more because im not going by perm rules. i used doo gro, and blue magic and for braids spray thats brownish amber color. moisterizer! and boom like over an inch of hair grew from being in braids!! i never cut my hair an inch just trimmed the bottom. results show a lot of growth. i cant keep up thats how great!! haha
@howe1119 That's great! Hope you're doing well :-) I like doo gro and used to use blue magic back in the day too. When I used to wear braids my hair grew better too..now that it's locked, it's similar to being braided since I'm not combing and it's growing fast now.
@MrSexxxy20 Yes! I agree! We are all so diverse and beautiful. There's no need to try to look like anyone else...just be you. Love it. Have a great week and keep in touch!
@mylaylay18 ugh FINALLY someone who agrees with me :-) It's all about doing what makes you happy and comfortable. Not trying to look like everyone else.
@mylaylay18 Yeah I am. I've been trying to do different styles other than braids just to lessen the stress on my hair. I wore a slicked back pony tail to work today (Walgreens) It felt good not to have braids. Some liked it some didn't but oh well I loved it.
Thank you so much for this video.. I have had so many negative comments about me "cutting off all my hair." The worse one is "what happened to your hair?" It means nothing to me because I love what God created! Each time I get a perm, it was like I was telling my Creator he made a mistake!
@shonteezi You are so welcome!! Nice to meet you :-) I experienced the same thing with people asking why I cut off my beautiful straight hair, etc. and I was so shocked since it wasn't even my natural texture lol. Now, at least if I get a compliment it feels REAL because it's MINE...ya know? And you are so right, GOD NEVER MAKES MISTAKES!!! Much love, keep in touch!
10 great reasons to say good bye to perms. I can relate to every single one of them. Thank you for sharing your video. I am in the beginning stages of my locks, 1 month going now. My hair is doing something...lolol. Can't really say I am completely happy with it now but I am in it for the long wrong. Thanks for sharing your video.
@MzDvine11 Wow - congrats on your first month of locs! I know the journey is tough in the beginning but if you hang in there, something beautiful will happen along the way...you'll get to know yourself. So glad you're in it for the long run...I'm here too so I'm glad we've crossed paths....keep in touch!!!
@jgmilner Thank you!! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yea, I had to let the perm go LOL. I'm so glad I did because I've never felt more like myself than I do now <3<3
All is well. You are blessed and you are loved. Enjoy your day today and smile because you are you. Smile because you are bored. Smile because you have a face. Whatever. Just enjoy your day today please and BE HAPPY. Don't let anyone or anything distract you from your path my friend. Live your life today and be yourself. Tomorrow isn't promised so be thankful for today. Stay blessed and thanks for subbing!! ❤❤
I've been natural for 3 months now, and my hair is in the "ugly" stage. I don't feel pretty because it looks like hamburger meat lol. I'm trying so hard not to go back to relaxers.
@armywifeismylife To me, there's no such thing as the "ugly" stage. It's something we've been trained to believe about your hair by society. Sounds to me like you're stuck in a negative story about your hair. Please go check out my Sharing Knowledge series on my channel. I give you tips and tricks through book reviews on how to tell a new hair story. Let me know if you have any questions and really appreciate your honesty. ❤❤
.....to create us differently and we (the world) steadily try to look like everybody else. Don't feel compelled to respond. Sometimes I talk a lot lol. This is what happens when you make a good video. I look forward to talking to you at the next video you post :)
@therapy3471 I lovvvve to respond :-). I think some people in the world like conformity because they perceive it as a way to control others. I also think that people are starting to see that our differences are what make us creative and help us to evolve. If everyone looked the same and thought the same, there would be no growth.
....accept myself. And I never wrapped my locs. Maybe because I always kept them in a Bob (short in the back and long at the sides). I would put my satin bonnet on at night and check for Down feathers in the morning lol. And that's it. And it does require a lot of maintenance for relaxed hair. But the relaxed women swear their natural hair would require too much work. They really need to know it's only work in the beginning.
@therapy3471 I wrap my locs b/c they are frizzy. I use a satin bonnet depending on the hairstyle I'm going for. If I want to flatten or make the style very fresh without frizz, I use a wrap or scarf. If I want to keep the body, I use the satin bonnet. When I was permed, I used to tell myself that my natural hair was more work too but now that I'm here, I see if was self-deception because it's EASIER to maintain my natural texture and locs now that they are locked. GREAT FEEDBACK! Keep it coming!
@mylaylay18 There is a woman on here who went natural because of damage. Then it got healthy and grew and grew and grew and she went back lol. But the good thing is she didn't revert to trash talking natural hair. But I know for me, I love my tightly coiled/kinky/nappy hair. We're the only race of ppl with this unique, mystique hair. Why alter/damage 70% of the structure of our hair (yeah I learned a lil from your vid lol) to look like everybody else?????? God took all of that time....
@therapy3471 I hope my hair grows and grows too! The good news is that one by one each of us are remembering our purpose and accepting our beauty, as it is. I think people are tired of conforming and ready to be themselves (asthetically). We don't learn by words, most people learn through experience so I think I had to perm to realize that perming wasn't for me...maybe that's others' journey?
GREAT VIDEO MYLAYLAY!!! I just realized something. It's always been in the back of my mind but it just hit me. I got a lot of flak for going natural because I DIDN'T have any problems with my hair. I hear a lot of naturals say that's the reason they went natural but that isn't the case for me. As a little girl I just knew something was incredibly STUPID with how Black ppl dog themselves out. So my purpose is to change the perception of beauty (like you said). Plus I wanted to fully......
@therapy3471 Thanks for your comment! I've heard that too (that some women don't have any problems). I think we all get the "why are you doing that" to your hair comments regardless because it's not the norm/majority. When I was young, I liked the afros and natural hair but I am tender-headed and don't like getting my hair combed (my scalp hurts!) so the perm was the best option (I also didn't like hot combs). Love this first part of your reply. Will also reply to the second :-)
I've been through 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, and 10
