Oh and I'd also like to address your comment about Russian peacekeepers. Yes, they had 300 peacekeeping troops over there, because it's no secret that there have been a lot of conflicts between Georgia and those territories. But I think Russia marched into Georgia with a little more than 300 troops, don't you?

Did you follow the events? Georgians killed 10-15 of those peacekeepers - THEN Russians attacked. What would US do if somebody would attack and kill 15 US soldiers? Russia should have just stand and watch? What would you do if you were Russia?

The warranted response would been to have fought Georgia out of those areas. Which they did. But they took it too far in an onslaught of Georgia. Let's just be honest here, the only reason you're siding with Russia is because you're politicizing the issue linking Georgia+United States. Even if you disagree with US policies, it doesn't make it right to support the invasion of a country.

No one really knows the true numbers because both sides have put out propaganda, so I honestly can't tell you. I also can't deny there is a link, but you also can't deny there is a link between the two independent nations who are within Georgia's boundaries and who's populations have almost double the % of Georgians than Russians. Can we just agree both sides are wrong in this and that peace should just be achieved? There are no real good guys, at least from my point of view.

Regardless of propaganda - the fighting actually took just 2 days, and mostly Georgians were retreating. In 2 days you can't kill too much of retreating soldiers. There are UN observers, I'm sure soon the real numbers will surface, but I don't think the number is high - I think at most couple of hundred.

You're probably right, their people retreated, but several of their towns were decimated. It was an ugly situation due to a build up of tention over the years. Russia should have never used that much force, but yeah, I can't deny Georgia provoked them by attacking the territories. A very stupid move. They should have let it alone and moved on. Anyway, appreciate someone finally using logic and not being a douche on youtube.

Honestly, I think what happened. Saakashvili hoped to take these regions quickly, bring UN peacekeepers and quickly join NATO. This way Georgia would have won - Russia wouldn't start WW3.
He hoped that R will respond slowly (they responded very slowly to Chechens).
But I think Russians anticipated that, infested G government with spies (Putin is exKGB, knows how to do that), were fully prepared, and reacted quickly. Now US won't start WW3.

It is Russian propaganda to believe Russia is a peacekeeping force when they invaded Georgia. That's total garbage, if you're about peace, then you protec the country that needs protection and that's it, you don't launch an invasion. What's next from you, the Holocaust never happened?
Oh and I would call American channels a lot better than Russian channels, even though our media does have bias. At least we have freedom of the press, a luxury Russia does not enjoy in their neo-dictatorship.

Though I didn't agree with the Iraq invasion, it's not imperialism when you rebuild their country and install a democratic government. It's going crappy, and we should never have been over there, but to call it imperialism is a very big stretch.

While I do believe that Shured's arguments are unfounded, I believe that the US is relatively Imperial. Allow me to explain; what do you think of Russia for these seemingly unfounded attacks on Georgia? If you think they are being power-mongers, then you should consider what the rest of the world thinks of us for the seemingly unfounded attack on Iraq. Yes, we are being very mild relatively, and we still have peace, but everyone excluding Russia is ten times better at being peaceful, though.

I agree it looks very bad, and most developed nations are currently more peaceful than we are. I do not think the invasion of Iraq was warranted at all, but I also don't think we did it for oil or for expanded power or anything like that. I suppose it's hypocritical to criticize Russia for invading Georgia, but I'm not President Bush, I can criticize Russia because I am also a critic of his war in Iraq. I watched the vid. Thanks for proving that US media shows both sides, even though we don't like Russia. And on the video, the people were in South Ossetia, so yeah the Georgians fired upon them, NO CRAP. Georgia has blood on their hands too, but that doesn't change the fact that Russia is not totally innocent as you are trying to make them out to be.
