  • Mr. G.- are you slating my love of the Dansette? ".... it even makes a Dansette sound like a million dollars ...haha!!!"

The obsession is getting really bad now .. I even dreamt I had found mine on a car boot sale (it had my name in bright red nail varnish inside the lid!) lol

  • @anniemalcolm

SORRY, ha ha ha, I told you I was rubbish on here. I was signed in under my mate's name.

    It is MackieP.

  • A Rolls Royce machine for sure! Great to see it with the companion stereo amplified speaker. I'll be looking out for one for my Cavalier now!

  • @pyestudiocolour The AL42 works just as well with the Cavalier...They are exactly the same inside as a Gondolier...They work better than most of the other stereo machines of the day...If the cartridge is wired stereo and nothing is plugged in...Both channels come out of the Cavalier/Gondolier...They split as soon as you plug the other amp/speaker in...Most others machines wired stereo only output one channel through the main unit speaker regardless.

How's the National coming on? :)

  • @GarrardAT6 Hi! Thanks for the info, I'll be looking out for one of these speaker/amps - who knows, there may be one at the NVCF in May!

Well, the National is sort of finished and I've made three videos today showing it in all its glory. It's not in the same league as a Hacker, but it's not bad either! I shan't have time to upload the videos tonight as I'm going out in a few minutes, so I'll put them up tomorrow.

  • @pyestudiocolour I know what you mean about lack of time...I don't seem to have 5 minutes at the moment.

As far as the National goes...I'm sure it's great and I shall look forward to seeing it whenever you get time :)

The Hacker AL42 is well worth having...It spices up any old machine with an output on!

I've it plugged into everything now...It even makes a Dansette sound like a million dollars...haha!!!

  • Couldn't help chuckling at this. It's got to be just about the 'quirkyest' version of Only the Lonely there has ever been. I did get it though - Roy on the left and the Dum Dum Dum Dummy Do Wah's on the right.......I dread to think where the violins were coming from!!

My favourite 'Big O' track of all time.

  • @IVORIESMAN The main thing was, I was having fun...haha!!!

I did put a warning in the description covering myself against bad camera work...haha!!!

Seriously though...These old machines really do sound outstanding for their time...Very hard to convey that through the internet using a cheap mono camera...As to the violins...I'll leave it to your imagination Joe...haha!!!

As always...Your comments make me smile SO much...Thank You!!! :)

  • All valve smashing i sooner that than transistors. i woulndt have a clue where to start a restoration on that.

  • @loyboy1979 They only ever need a couple of capacitors normally...Maybe a valve...Just like opening up the bonnet of a Rolls Royce...All laid out like a work of art inside...Not nailed to a piece of wood with wires all over the show like some machines of that time...haha!!! :)

  • Time machine : I'd go back to 1950s ! Where I belong 78s are great when they ain't killing my needle I played 10 on my ferguson needle had a tantrum and wore out and kept sliding across the deck like it was on ice got a new one 10 quid in all reversible flip I'll message you the needle model number later Monday I'll do a video of ferguson for you to hear I'll get a del-fi la bamba 45 on it ! But no cartwheels across the repair shop in a Scottish kilt you'll scare mrs bucket.( tv show )

  • i like how deep the record player is its certainly a unit ive not seen before its amazing how many various players was produced nothing nowadays seems to come close.

Thanks again for the chat and the video clip !!! i appriciate it hahah :-) 5 stars favourite on my channel.

  • @loyboy1979 Thanks Loy...I forgot to say that this is all valve...My little camera doesn't pick up how nice it really sounds! The speaker is the size of the whole front! Bit big to put on your bed...haha!!!

But you are right what you say...Nobody makes anything like this anymore!!

All you can really buy new now are the little plastic jobs made in China that don't have that great quality sound...They cost a bomb too...Not my cup of tea...haha!!!

  • 4. numbers all upside down.. Thanks for the support its nice to hear from a proffesional who seriously knows all about record players what a great project to get involved in im enjoying my restoration on my dansette its a new world.

    5. the sound of the hacker totally supports its quality as mentioned i now understand and see why this is the farrari of record players and your is superb sound im convinced.!! you speak from knowledge. its nice to hear good true vintage sounds from vinyl.

  • @loyboy1979 You make me feel like Yoda...You are wise young Loy...You have the force of the records flowing through you...haha!!!

Seriously though...I've got loads of old machines...But the Hacker Gondolier and Cavalier are hard to beat for quality...They really do bring the best out in old Vinyl as long as they are in good working order with a nice cartridge fitted! You're doing really well with your Popular!!! I'm sure there will be loads more brought back to full health by you!!! :)
