I just made up my own chapter called Saviors of Man.. just as easy, pick the models you like, paint them and play a friendly game with a friend.. I mean, I mixed up the normal space marines (tactical squad etc), with a emperors champion and probably some blood angel things... why? Just because I can and since they're all space marines and I play with a friend, who the fuck cares...
Moral of the story, just do what you'd like.. its just a game.. :)
but the spacemarines arn't an army- spacemarines are what they are... Black templars are a chapter (army) but the name Spacemarine is just what each chapter goes under....
@xYarvelx True. but we are looking at picking a space marine army based on the codex. So it really does not matter especially since the Space Marine Codex (Generic one) represents a multitude of different chapters
i was going to start a renegade blood angels army with the new blood angels codex or i was thinking about doing an all thousand sons and vehicals army , but i was just curious if you thought those two ideas could work with the new codexs
I went with Blood Angels mostly because of the Death Company and Death Co Dreadnought w/Blood Talons (both as a standard troop choice) and their Stormraven Gunship is much better than the Grey Knights version.
@KeeperoftheFortress blood angels seem to be too over used. but they are of more a melee based and jumpy as in terms of movement. but yes, they are cool. i personally like Raven Gaurd, but thats just me
I have a preferance for ranged attacks and have them come to me or die but I dont like the green armour from the dark angels. is there any shooty chaptairs that have a more black paint job like a tactical swat team? also there are a few special rules out there. the astral claws one is nice where u can choose not to do the moral check or something and get a free distance run or something i forget. anyway, astral claws are a good range chaptair?
@strapinhotpockets I dont know any non Forgeworld astral claw rules. As for a Black paint job there are a lot of chapters out there. The Angels of Vengeance and the Consecrators are 2 Dark Angel successors that are black in color scheme.
can you still use the old codex's because I have the Dark Angels Codex I bought about 10-15 years ago, which is the time I've been away from the game :(

Where can I accquire codex's online? Im back from a 15 year hiatus and $ is very limited...I took a break about the time Chaos entered 40k(yeah..long time ago). Im currently looking into the Necrons(battleforce,monolith and Destroyer lord for under $200) and Tau..whos battleforce kit seems solid for the price, and some sort of SM army(depending on special characters and rules). Im having NO LUCK finding USED 40k models either...any info on any of these topics would be greatly appreciated.Thanks!
@Kumite0071 If you mean digital copies I have no idea. I dont think GW puts out digital copies of the codices that arent on pdf on there site. As for used 40k models. your best bet would be local game stores. See if they got anything and chances are there may be a player there who has stuff to unload.
@ADC555666 Well All Space Marines are essentially on the same side. The Imperium. Obviously Chaos Marines are not on that same side. The thign with Marine Chapters is that while on the same side they are not necessarily friendly with each other. Sure they may fight on the same side but thats as "friendly" as some may get.
@MrDreamblade They do. They are under the Space Marines Section of the Warhammer 40k Armies section of there sight. They do not have the own personal drop down menu. Dark Angels were one of the first codices to be done in this "new 5th ed" style for a codex so I wouldnt expect them being updates any time soon. But the Black Templars have an older codex So i would imagine they would have an update coming at some point.
@Asken96 Id like to think there is a Blood Angels Battleforce coming but I have not heard anything. As for who would win of the 3 you mention.. I cannot say. It comes down to your list and how you play it. I will say of the 3 the Blood Angels Codex is a more aggressive codex with the Red Thirst rule and assault marine troop choices.
I was always jelaous on SM for all those codexes...Why isn´t World Eaters codex...or Emperors children...Iron Warriors or at least for the biggest of chaos armies-Black Legion....shame.
@makakooos i think that is because there would only be one troop choice thats diffent like eg thousand sons would probly be just about the same exept that its got thosand sons i can understand iff they got one for space marine than one 4 nurgle khrone slannesh and tzneeth and ther would be demons in them coz its quite dum to hav a deamon army
@makakooos thats actually a pretty good point mate.. ive always thought about that as well. i bet people would fall the will of chaos more often than SM if they had a Plague Marines or a World Eaters codex.. chaos are hard to play against though so im all for less people playing them :)

I choose Black Templars, already got the codex and gotta say, these guys are fucking AWESOME
They don't retreat, fall under poor morale, and get some really good independent characters
(Emperors Champion, High Marshalls, etc...)
And not to mention the crusader squads!

Well there are no real rules differences. Id go wit hteh Generic Space Marine Codex. Fluff wise the Aurora Chapter has a lot of tanks
