Geoff does look a bit retro, but Mindcrime came out in 1988--still the tail-end of the "big hair" era.

The protagonist of this story is a drug addict, driven by deception and manipulation to commit mass murder. For you to take up his battle-cry marks you as the kind of person who is attracted by such themes yourself.

To say nothing of the fact that announcing your desire to assassinate specific world leaders probably lands you on a terrorist list--and you can be identified and located quite easily through your YouTube account.

My understanding (and let me know if you see it differently) is that this is the story of a marginalized, disenfranchised young man on the fringe of society, exploited of by a sinister cabal. They get him hooked on drugs in order to control him, using him as a pawn in a series of high-level assassinations. They manipulate him, get his mind all screwed up, and send him out on "missions" to hit various targets.

What do you think it's about?

@IYAMNI I believe that, after a tormented struggle, he obeys Dr. X and kills Mary; but he blacks out, and doesn't remember he did it, until he finds her corpse later; and then the guilt comes flooding over him.

He later wakes up in the hospital with amnesia, sees a news report on TV about a string of recent assassinations, and begins to remember that he's the one who committed them. "I remember now..."

Even the nurse knows he's the guy who killed all those people.

@SaintDufus Actually it is unresolved. QR never said. But he never lost memory on the album and he was surprised to find her dead. QR even had a "who killed' Mary" promotional contest. Someone here might remember that. Anyway, as I said, he was not a mass murderer. He killed the priest. But Mary? That's still a mystery. Maybe Geoff will finally say.
