ouh man i saw a video once this guy got into a bike accident and he was hit so hard his heart and guts came out his chest and when they reached the scene his heart was on the road still beating, exactly like this.........
Considering that he's on a boat and this isn't likely going to be cooked in the next minute (and he could have killed it with a clean chop to the head to prevent unnecessary pain - whether for eating or not)...yes, that is a bit upsetting. I believe in hunting for food, not for sport. I believe in fishing for food, not for sport.
I do believe and have common sense to know that fish feel pain, like other animals and creatures. Therefore, this is upsetting to a sportsman, yes.
Mind you, humans are mammals, as well....before some idiot says "humans are above animals." Sometimes when I see things like this video, it makes me question whether all humans are more intelligent than animals. @lald6103 , fish eat other live fish and they are digested ALIVE. They also eat live crawfish, live snakes, live mice, live frogs. Should i keep going? Hawks catch their prey and eat them ALIVE. Ripping the flesh piece by piece. Ever watch discovery channel? They show many animals eaten ALIVE. You people hide from reality and are scared of the world. Stop being such a pussy.

@Punt66 fish may not have a brain but they DO have emotion! my goldfish Missy was evil. she didnt like anyone but me she would turn her tail to anyone else who tried to give her affection. she knew her name because everytime i went up to her tank and called her she swam right up the front and began the 'talk' (she opened her mouth more than she needed to) and when i gave her away , i went to see her at the petstore every now and and i would called to her and she would come zipping right up to me
@JessicaHeartsCain Your goldfish was trained to come to you because it usually meant food is on the way. Thats all. Has nothing to do with emotion. Everything to do with survival. Just as a plant reaches for the sun.
@355over113 hwo would you know? i know she didnt really talk but it looked like she was trying to. but yea lots of my fish i have bonds with. and i dont feed them everytime i see them. i call bettas the fish version of mans best friend (but that's just me)
and apparently Oscars are as smart as dolphins if i heard correctly.
@Punt66 The view that fish feel no pain is a medieval one, but one I suppose lets you sleep at night after boiling animals alive for your own culinary pleasure. And your tiger example is one only a child would bring up, no large predator eats it's prey alive. Besides, what else will they do?
@Shukie6174 Well said. Humans have evolved through natural selection to develop larger brains, and more complex thought. This has led to the development of empathy. Empathy is the reason why we provide a fair trial, rather than skinning a murderer alive. It's what makes us 'civilised'.
Whilst empathy may be trivial in the long run, as the fish WILL die anyway (food is food), it does not require much energy to slam the fishes head down a couple of times, as a common courtesy.
@Shukie6174 individuals like yourself are the reason alot of people are turned off by vegetarians. You know with your logic, even a stem of broccoli screams when its ripped from the ground
@Punt66 bullshit nearly all animals feel pain ! pain is just a feeling that tells the body that something is not right. pain is the "instrument" to make animals want to stay alive ! of course they dont feel emotion or at least most of them but to say that they feel no pain is just wrong.
@loeningg Wow thats sad then. 90% or more fish fry (babies) are swallowed whole and digested alive by other fish. You better write God a letter and make him stop this injustice!
@Punt66 As a marine biology I have to say that indeed we still do not have either the scientific evidence or the ethical framework to reach any conclusions as to whether fish feel any pain or not...at least pain the way we humans understand it....
My opinion to the matter is that life must be respected and taken only for food and not for fun..exactly as the native indians, ancient greeks and others were doing.... It saddens me watching young people having fun with the death of an animal.
@koilakanthos Why would they catch the fish and clean it just for fun. Its obvious they were going to eat it. They were excited they caught the fish which as why they were happy. I however do fish for fun :). I release all the fish caught. But i also have no problem with people eating their catch while following conservation laws. What amazes me are people like you. Nature, such as bears that catch salmon and pull their skin and fat off while their still alive is ok.
@Punt66 I made a general comment to the fact that life must be respected and taken only for food...smth to which I am sure you agree completely, read between the lines next time.....Another thing you need to think about is that animals may kill to eat, but they do it in order to survive or else they will die.....how many people nowadays actually need to kill in order to stay alive....and yes I find it sad when young people lough on the death of an animal....
@koilakanthos We all kill to survive. The food you buy in the store was killed so you can eat it. Why people think hunting and fishing animals that live their lives free from farms and abuse is wrong i will never understand. The group were happy they have a catch. They probably dont get to do it often as most people as you know live in todays world of fake consumption. If people did not buy their food in boxes and hunted and gathered like the indians as you mentioned then i am sure it would diff
@koilakanthos Also, look up animal cruelty right here on you tube. What you will see are the living conditions and treatment in slaughter houses you so dearly think are the humane ways to get food to the masses. You people need to read in between the lines. Hunted and fished game for food is more natural, healthier and more rewarding then buying a steak at the grocery store that came from a slaughter house where the cow was mistreated and abused. Yup no nned to kill in todays world ha?
@Punt66 I have met many people like you mister...you are the kind of person that never listens to what other people say and always preach with closed ears a new revelation you had and you believe its an amazing fact of life...I never mentioned that I dearly(loved the word) believe(huh) that its humane what is going on in slaughter houses...what I learned though about people who debate this way is that you never reach a common grounds ...so goodnight, lost interest in the post, gratz.
@koilakanthos Many people like me? You mean people who can think and see the big picture? Closed ears? Look in the mirror my friend. Sorry if you dont know how to debate. Debates dont always land in "common grounds". I see you have nothing logical to add to your "no need to kill these days" line.
@Punt66 My friend, I'm so sorry but you are wrong. In fact fish too feel pain. The pain sensation is perceived in the thalamus, a primitive area of body control in the brain, present in all vertebrates. Brain remains conscious as long as 20-30 seconds after the blood flow is interrupted, at least that's in the human. Of course the fish was feeling pain, maybe more than it could handle for a brief period.
The world's foremost expert on the subject is Dr. James D. Rose of the University of Wyoming. He's spent 30 years working on questions of neurology, examining data on the responses of animals to painful stimuli. In 2003 Rose published a landmark study in the journal Reviews of Fisheries Science, concluding that animals need specific regions of the cerebral cortex in order to feel pain. And fish do not have them.
Fish do not live on "instinct only." Anyone with a fish tank will tell you that the fish quickly learn to associate the approach of a human keeper with food and will swim to the top of the tank in anticipation (they often learn to do this within a few days). Some enterprising fishkeepers have even taught goldfish to do tricks, like picking up a small plastic basketball with their mouths and dropping it into a hoop for a food reward. They are not as simple as people wish them to be.
@maximum411 sure, for food. That is instinct. They will do what they have to to get food. Their instinct tells them when a person approaches they may get food. Simple really. Now if they spell out "i am hungry" with the rocks at the bottom of the tank i would be impressed.
It is their "instinct" to be fed by people? And it's their "instinct" to play underwater basketball? You clearly don't understand what instinct is. Instinct is purely genetic- it is something you are born knowing. If you are proposing that fish are born knowing how to play basketball or recognize that people will feed them, well...
@Punt66 Fish typically have undersized brains relative to body size compared with most other vertebrates, typically the fish brain is one-fifteenth the brain mass of a similarly sized bird or mammal. However, some fish have very large brains, usually mormyrids and sharks, which have brains as massive as birds and marsupials. The telencephalon, olfactory nerves, olfactory lobes, and cerebrum make up the hind brain of a aquatic vertebrate
the fish heart will still beat after the fish dies and some people just react weirdly to it just to get attention. the fishes nerves will also sometimes keep working after the fish dies making it seem alive. i worked as a deckhand for many years and seen many things. if you guys want to see a real problem that has been happening for a long time search cats and dogs for shark bait. these videos will really piss you off and you can call these fisherman a disgrace.

@Punt66 bullshit nearly all animals feel pain ! pain is just a feeling that tells the body that something is not right. pain is the "instrument" to make animals want to stay alive ! of course they dont feel emotion or at least most of them but to say that they feel no pain is just wrong.
loeningg 1 year ago
@loeningg Wow thats sad then. 90% or more fish fry (babies) are swallowed whole and digested alive by other fish. You better write God a letter and make him stop this injustice!
Punt66 1 year ago
@Punt66 As a marine biology I have to say that indeed we still do not have either the scientific evidence or the ethical framework to reach any conclusions as to whether fish feel any pain or not...at least pain the way we humans understand it....
My opinion to the matter is that life must be respected and taken only for food and not for fun..exactly as the native indians, ancient greeks and others were doing.... It saddens me watching young people having fun with the death of an animal.
koilakanthos 1 year ago
@koilakanthos Why would they catch the fish and clean it just for fun. Its obvious they were going to eat it. They were excited they caught the fish which as why they were happy. I however do fish for fun :). I release all the fish caught. But i also have no problem with people eating their catch while following conservation laws. What amazes me are people like you. Nature, such as bears that catch salmon and pull their skin and fat off while their still alive is ok.
Punt66 1 year ago
@Punt66 I made a general comment to the fact that life must be respected and taken only for food...smth to which I am sure you agree completely, read between the lines next time.....Another thing you need to think about is that animals may kill to eat, but they do it in order to survive or else they will die.....how many people nowadays actually need to kill in order to stay alive....and yes I find it sad when young people lough on the death of an animal....
koilakanthos 1 year ago
@koilakanthos We all kill to survive. The food you buy in the store was killed so you can eat it. Why people think hunting and fishing animals that live their lives free from farms and abuse is wrong i will never understand. The group were happy they have a catch. They probably dont get to do it often as most people as you know live in todays world of fake consumption. If people did not buy their food in boxes and hunted and gathered like the indians as you mentioned then i am sure it would diff
Punt66 1 year ago
@koilakanthos Also, look up animal cruelty right here on you tube. What you will see are the living conditions and treatment in slaughter houses you so dearly think are the humane ways to get food to the masses. You people need to read in between the lines. Hunted and fished game for food is more natural, healthier and more rewarding then buying a steak at the grocery store that came from a slaughter house where the cow was mistreated and abused. Yup no nned to kill in todays world ha?
Punt66 1 year ago
@Punt66 I have met many people like you mister...you are the kind of person that never listens to what other people say and always preach with closed ears a new revelation you had and you believe its an amazing fact of life...I never mentioned that I dearly(loved the word) believe(huh) that its humane what is going on in slaughter houses...what I learned though about people who debate this way is that you never reach a common grounds ...so goodnight, lost interest in the post, gratz.
koilakanthos 1 year ago
@koilakanthos Many people like me? You mean people who can think and see the big picture? Closed ears? Look in the mirror my friend. Sorry if you dont know how to debate. Debates dont always land in "common grounds". I see you have nothing logical to add to your "no need to kill these days" line.
Punt66 1 year ago
@Punt66 My friend, I'm so sorry but you are wrong. In fact fish too feel pain. The pain sensation is perceived in the thalamus, a primitive area of body control in the brain, present in all vertebrates. Brain remains conscious as long as 20-30 seconds after the blood flow is interrupted, at least that's in the human. Of course the fish was feeling pain, maybe more than it could handle for a brief period.
MartinRogelio 1 year ago
@MartinRogelio Do fish feel pain?

@Punt66 fish do not have a brain? O.o read some biology?
Yuriyonlanguage 8 months ago
@Punt66
They are not as simple as people wish them to be.
maximum411 8 months ago
@maximum411 sure, for food. That is instinct. They will do what they have to to get food. Their instinct tells them when a person approaches they may get food. Simple really. Now if they spell out "i am hungry" with the rocks at the bottom of the tank i would be impressed.
Punt66 8 months ago
@Punt66

@Punt66 you're brain dead if you believe that.
kdc43 7 months ago
@Punt66 Fish typically have undersized brains relative to body size compared with most other vertebrates, typically the fish brain is one-fifteenth the brain mass of a similarly sized bird or mammal. However, some fish have very large brains, usually mormyrids and sharks, which have brains as massive as birds and marsupials. The telencephalon, olfactory nerves, olfactory lobes, and cerebrum make up the hind brain of a aquatic vertebrate
