One of the best interviews I have seen, thank you very much for posting this. My favourite actor indeed, good to see his, something I have shared with others who are not entirely familiar with his work beyond A Clockwork Orange.
@Hoppus217 I know man the clockwork orange is my favorite movie but dont you think soemtimes that Malcolm dosent get any younger and till he lives a actuall sequel is posible even if it wasnt half as good as the oryginal i think they shuld do it for the fans
I think Malcolm McDowell is one of the most enjoyable actors out there. He can be subdued just as easily as he can be over-the-top at times, and his voice is so rich it makes him a pleasure to watch and listen to.
i met him and he is so, so nice. he's really great with his fans....i have his autograph framed on my nightstand...i hope to meet him again. i will always love a clockwork orange...
Such a wonderful actor. He has made some bad film choices, but has been in some fantastic films too. His performance in A Clockwork Orange was nothing short of perfect.
I think his choice of strange films is what makes him most fascinating and great. He has an effect on extremely strange or poor movies that makes them very much worthwhile
Brilliant! I was there at the Egyptian watching Clockwork Orange and Malcolm talking about it. What a great unpretentious guy. I would seek out every movie he was in when I was a kid after seeing Clockwork. Class Act All the way. I would love to work with him.
A Clockwork sequel is a bad idea. The original is a masterpiece from start to finish. There is no way anyone could capture any of the original magic. It's probably why Kubrick never filmed a sequel. And a remake would be blasphemy!
I agree. However, chapter 21 ("choice") was excluded from the film. I would like to see an old McDowell telling the story -in first person- after he was "cured, right" :P
Anthny Burguess complained that chapter 21 included the "hope" and this was excluded to his (and my) dissappointment.
Chapter 21 was only excluded from The American version of the book and Kubrick being American only read that version. Later Kubrick commented that he did not like the wrapped up ending and preferred the more ambiguous idea.
@johnisallin I agree to a certain level yes, a remake would be terrible because of how grim they are making witty characters now for example my worst fear for what would be Alex happened to robin hood by sucking away his wit and cocky-ness and yes a squeal would be bad but if in the future they do decide to remake a clockwork orange i would like it much more like the book and as a true clockwork orange fan you seem to be I'm sure you've read it and know were I'm coming from.
@johnisallin i think they culd make a prequell...a part 2 witch malcom Playng Alex as a grown man with his own Kids culd be intresting too bu the poryginal is just a masterpiece
coffee salesman, love info of famous people like that.think that people he sold to reconised him later on in movies? "oh no's! when they saw clockwork orange hahahaha
Its incredible. This man has played some of the greatest, most pure evil characters ever to grace the big screen and small screen, yet he is so cool and kind in real life. I grew up watching him play some great characters and I hope to see him continue until, as he says, he 'drops'.
When I listen to Q, I had no idea that the visual quality was so good! I love the little "lightbulb off" option... all CBC on YouTube should.
Great interview. I saw him, from a distance at the 2007 Fan Expo.
Re: Orange. Love the quote about "the old guy". Sadly now what was extreme violence is the norm in movies such as Bond... I loved the aspect of redemption in this movie. Still looking for a milk bar....
Man, I could watch paint dry with Malcolm as long as he talked.
Thankfully, I have mastered his voice in the art of impersonation, thus I could seriously watch paint dry all by myself... not that I would, but...
