There is no doubt that this band is really talented. They do need to work on their stage presence though. Closing your eyes and just listening to them they are tight, open your eyes and watch, they are tense and a mess. Not trying to be mean, just honest.
Being able to play is just part of the equation, you need to be able to entertain the audience. From a pure musicality standpoint, they have it going on.
from a market standpoint true. I guess Blue-Highway and Tony Rice have always failed because they never had one lick of stage presence. Do you wanna hear great music or see some idiot jump around and put on?
@CorbettFamily08 - Failed by whose standard's, LiveNations? Bluegrass is one of the last hold-outs of music purity that's left today.
Hey, it's okay to say you don't like Tony Rice or whomever. Just don't say they have "always failed because they don't have stage presence." That's a ridiculous statement by someone who has been trained by the music industry to dislike anything other than big lights, glitz, and smoke. Get out and hear some real music son.
@MrJones706. Yes, and no. Bluegrass and roots music in general IS all about the songs, musicianship and the passion. In bluegrass, typically the so-called "professional" players also have other ways to make a living.
This was a free concert at the Smithsonian Folk Life Fest. Casual fans.
This does not mean they are any less talented than say, the Dixie Chicks. They are in it for the music and are not dependent on it as a means to earn a living. Who cares what they wear?
@girardslim "Who cares what they wear?" Certainly not me. I think you actually supported my argument, It is about the music, and as I said, they are tight, very talented as musicians. As a band, they look like strangers standing naked in an elevator; Awkward and not sure where to look.
@MrJones706 - I saw them live as part of the Crooked Road Tour in Annapolis, Md. in April of 2010. I thought they put on a fine performance, so maybe they learned a few things in the last few years.
Watch out Alison and Union Station. Amber, you and your band have a new fan. GREAT vocal chops!!! Great musicians!!!
