Inside the dc motor of the 8Track will be a centrifugal governor. May be a "screw" adjustment to raise the motor speed. Also a stretched belt can slow things down.
There is a clear "hum" on the audio. Look for "electrolytic" capacitors in the system. They will be the largest capacitors in there. Some may be in series with the speakers, others are in the power supply. The ones in the power supply are responsible for the "hum".
Thanks for the tip. The turntable uses a rubber disc that presses against a metal drive-cone thing. I wrapped a little bit of tape around the drive cone to increase its circumference. It plays at the right speed now. But you can hear a little Ratatatatatatatat sound coming from the cone because it isn't perfectly round now :|
It works. I had a big bag of 8 tracks I got for free but most were bands from the late 70's disco gutter. I kept 4 carts: "The Band" " The Guess Who" "George Harrison-All things Must Pass" and some weird live album by Yoko Ono and The Mothers. I had Lou Reed's Transformer but the damn tape thing snapped in 2.
Thanx.

Love Marcy Levy's background on this! She should've had a top 40 hit of her own.

I love this song and remember just staring at the red bear going around and around. Very comforting for some reason! Thanks for posting.

you should attach the turntable to ground, to eliminate that sound when you turn it on

Is the turntable a "flip- up"?
eoc6cis 1 year ago
@eoc6cis
What is a "flip-up" turntable?
briankdrag 1 year ago
@briankdrag
a "flip-up" is, one that you fold the turntable into the console before you close the
doors on it.

@eoc6cis
Maybe this is a flip-up after all. However, you don't fold the turntable so much as you pull it out and push it in like a kitchen drawer.

I would have done the same. Well maybe not Yoko Ono :)

I think the speed on your player is a little off (slow), or is it just the way it was recored? I still love it
eoc6cis 1 year ago
@eoc6cis
It's slow. A real bummer. There's no adjusting dial I can see.
