For you people that are debating with yourselves comparing the new EVH's to the older Peaveys, I will say this, the Peavey Wolfgangs are great guitars. But the new EVH's are going to be made with ALDER wood instead of Basswood like the Peaveys and with stainless steel frets and a whole new electronics and tweaked pickups.
For that know, Eddie's older sound from the late 70's and early 80's were mostly guitars made out of alder. So in other words, this new Fender EVH is going kick ass!!!!
Am I the only one who thinks Eddie looks like Paul Daniels from Neighbours with his haircut? I agree below. He isn't using his talent properly. His recent playing is terrible.

Yes the guys' got technical talent big time, but his choice of music is awful. He's doing the same stuff he was doing 30 years ago. He hasn't matured at all. No sublty at all. Just shrill sounds. Grow up Eddie. Buy a few Eric Clapton or Jeff Beck CD's and listen carefully. You could be the same type of guy. You've got the talent but you aren't using it properly. You aren't a kid any more.
hey fuck you, thats a fucking legend! listen to the guitar on van halen 3, bullshit hes doin the same thing. plus the guitar in all the sammy albums were comlpletly different.
Most ignorant comment on youtube. That would be like telling Sinatra before he died to stop crooning because he wasn't a kid anymore. Eddie could play every note that Clapton and Beck ever thought of playing but vice versa? Not so much. Don't knock Eddie just because you're stuck in the 60's.
If I were to be stuck in a decade, far better to be in the 60s than any other. Thats Eddies problem, he IS stuck in an era. Hes not expanded his genre. Its the same old early 1980s stuff. You say he can play anything. Show me where. Its speculation on your part. As far as being able to play what Beck and Clapton play, I doubt it. NOBODY controls the whammy, tone, and volume to pull sounds like Beck. NOBODY. You are just another Gen-X (or later) guy with very poor musical taste.
I agree srevhjmh the people visiting utube just to leave shitty comments do not have much of a life. I would rather see good comments by people having a good time. I hate rap and hiphop but I dont go to their sites to leave shitty comments I dont go to them at all. Eddie is the greatest guitarist in my opinion. And I have many other favorites.
Age has NO impact on how well you play. He sounds like shit when he tries to shred here. If you want to hear Ed at his best, check out my favorites. Click on the video of Ed from the FUCK tour soundcheck.
This man almost single handedly invented shred guitar solos as we know them. But its sad to see the man himself playing this slopy =/. But i still love the man.
You guys are way too critical-here's a man who has gone through hell the last few years, and has decided to come back and give fans what they really wanted-he sounds as good as ever to me, a true legend who is having a great time. He's worked hard on his playing (much better than the nineties)If you want perfection listen to those fag shredders.
i agree with you man eddie is better than ever to me he has gone through so many bad times i thought that he would never come out to show off his amazing guitar playing and all of you assholes are saying that he sucks. he's trying his hardest come on he is 52 years old and almost died from cancer and alcohol and drug abuse and your expecting him to play like he did back in 1972 you guys are asses i bet if ANY of you went through what he did you wouldent be on stage playing eruption when your 52

What the hell? That was extremely sloppy. Even cathedral was weirdly off in some parts...the beginning of the whole recording was terrible. Was he having an off night?
Its called teasing, he isn't getting to the the resolving chord right away, he is playing around until he gets us there! It would be extremely boring for him and the rest of us if he played it exactly the same as what we've already heard many times don't you think? His playing is getting more sophisticated IMO.
i was there and they had the amps cranked way to high to hear anything. There would be a really high pitch squeal. I mean it was my first concert and it was awesome to see Eddie but I mean they should fix the amps.
Great concert, I think one of the only ones that I have ever been to where, I never was waiting for them to start playing somthing I didnt like so I could go take a piss, *******
Ugh....how many middle-aged pot bellies were at this concert? Nothing lamer than seein drunken 40 somethings sporting their ill fitted VH tshirts they've probably had since they were teens. I'd rather save my money for a band the isn't getting back together just so they can put up new siding on their mansions.
Yea, I agree with tknight4, your probably some little punk that likes to run his mouth but cant back up his words, am I right? If I had to guess I'd say you wear your pants down around your knees like a little sissy, I guarantee you any 40 something could make you holler for your momma. I'd like to catch you at one of these concerts and teach you a little lesson about 40 something ass kickin, I'll knock your lungs loose, then reach in thru your eye sockets and pull your teeth out.
Was, is, and always will be the greatest guitar player ever. Eddie Van Halen is a legend. He does things with that guitar that nobody ever dreamed. He is one of the greats.
100 / 1000 whatever guitar players in audience can play his song better than him? Let me ask who's songs are they? And who is up on stage. He paid his dues to be up there as one of the greats. It is real easy to be a critic, until you're under the light. Its very easy to copy song, once someone clears the way, perfects a sound. Go out be original, be a star make some world class music, be known all over the world. Not a faint Annoymos user name on YOUTUBE uaahhhh.
I was there in 84 and I was there in 11 03 07 Glendale, They were great back than and came back more refined, World class think its a waste to bad I paid $500 for 2 tickets and would do it agian. Worth every penny. Unless you have to sell all your worldly possions to do it.
for all of those you never got to see VH in the early 80's, my heart goes out to you. This just saved me $200 and an unwasted night. I'd rather pull out my VH and VH II albums. Eddie did change rock!
his tone is over saturated now. he seems to lose control of it and shit gets muddy or messy sounding. It will take him some time to gain dexterity like he had before, alchohal and drugs if done to the point he did them will erode some skill. If he's not conveluted and in denial he can regain and actually suprpass his old shit. He just has to want to
Well, Chief, if you are part of the "he's got the fire back," "he never sounded this good," camp, your screen name is certainly well deserved because you are clearly an escaped mental patient.
I went, I saw, and it rocked dude. I'm old enough to have seen them at the US, the 1984 tour, and you can't compare, know why?
time has its way with you dumbass...sure, other kids think they can play better than him, but they didn't make the money! waddayou making, $6 an hour?!
Okay, maybe 100 guitar players...but you get what I'm saying. I honor the man for what he's done, but this is the last tour he is going to be able to live off the legacy. He needs to get healthy and get to work...IMHO.
YOU PLAY GUITAR !!! - because i play - ed play in this tour amazing really... maybe the solo it more-improv - but you say sloppy this guy still the most clean player in the buissnes- maybe too close the stage.. listen boston , filadelfia msg... etc
Well, it's all subjective...y'know. I've seen Ed play so many times, up close, in clubs, at his house, at the NAMM show, in arenas. I know if he's playing up to par or not and although this was an improvement over his "alcohol impaired" attempts of the last year or two, it was still not up to what I would expect. That's just me. If you're under 30, this is probably the first time you're seeing these songs live in your life, so it's different for you.
i have40- i listen in argentina in 1983 - 1988 and balance tour a great shows - listen for example filadelfia shows , in this tour he still a agreat great player - i play guitar long time and play like him it not easy-
I was there...front row about six seats to your left in front of Wolfgang. Too much "Cathedral" nonsense and not enough real playing. I will say this though...the man loves his son and it was nice to see them playing together and to hear Dave sing the old songs. Overall, I think they need Mike back and Ed needs to practice a lot and knock off the slop. Every night 1000 guitar players in the audience are shaking their heads since they know they can play his songs better than him.
hey i bow to you man! you sound really awesome!

What never changes is:
the crowd begins to fill in,
the lights go down and the crowd roars,
Then the band hits the stage,
Worth every penny of that $300 I paid, cause you only live once!
Yet you want to reminisce with your studio recordings rather than taking a chance on a live date with a true and tested player, so be it...
anyone got a cigarette?
