  • The Russians actually feared the 'skinnys' (BF109) more than the Fw190.

Its just one of those different points of view. The Western Allies feared the FW190, the Eastern feared the Bf109 as it could turn tighter and climb better.

  • An interesting point for the FW190. Although superior in almost every respect. The radial engine was never intended for high altitude fighter work. Thus, a supercharger was never developed for it. It was superior to every Allied fighter below 25K feet. @bomber altitudes, no good. The engine couldn't breath well. Until the 190 Dora (Langnasser), w/its Juma V12. The 109 was better @high altitude. That's why they used/made so many of them throughout the war.

  • Thanks for sharing this vid!!

  • Although 110 comes after 109 numerically, I always thought the Bf 110 was more obsolete than the 109 by 1942, yet it was a more modern plane than the 109. Why the mistake. The P38, mosquito, Dinah and even the Beufighter seemed more.

  • As a figher the BF110 was born obsolete. There was no way it could compete even with the Hurricane on a dogfight (it had the speed, but lacked acceleration). Although it become quite an asset during 1942-1943 fighting against unescorted British and American heavy bombers over Germany. Since it was fast enough to reach them and could carry more punch than the BF-109 or the FW-190. It was also decent on ground support role.
