  • I am watching this not because I like it, but because I asume that the Kerela school of Philosphy and mathematics must have enjoyed these things. It wasnt a waste for India to have it. Those intellectuals out there who have won Field medal and Nobel prize have the genes of Kerala masters.

  • what's the difference btw mohiniyaatam and barata nayam?

  • Bharatanatyam is more about strength and power of the feet where as Mohiniyattam is more about being lightfooted and graceful. In addition to this Bharatanatyam originated from the state of Tamil Nadu and Mohiniyattam originates from Kerala.

  • I think Bharatanatyam today fits your statement, though there was once a time (in the 19th century) when Dasiattam existed and physical strength or athleticism were not the primary appealing characteristics. So much has changed since Rukmini Arundale opened Kalakshetra. Balasaraswati worked hard to show people the soft side of Tamil Nadu's classical dance style, but Rukmini restricted an essential component (shringara) to appeal to a westernized audience. Well, she was married to an Englishman.

  • Mohiniattam has a swaying movement that reflects the palm trees moved from left to right by the wind. Bharatanatyam is about geometric shapes and straight lines without an emphasis on nature being the main type of movement. Mohiniattam involves maintaining one's energy at the center of the body throughout a performance but Bharatanatyam is about released the energy throughout the body and then building it up again.

  • She is good dancer, - I bought her DVD on w w w . J a y Q . org
