  • This here is straight Blue grass. I am blessed to live in the hills of Tennessee where this music is alive and well. Nothing like playing on the front porch or out in the yard with friends. GOOD LIVIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great music before the culturial sickness of multicult.

  • @glennwhitemen1488 I'll rephrase that for you. "Great music before, and despite, the sad, deranged counter-humanitarian views of white supremacy." There you go. You're welcome.

  • They arent talking about mountain dew the soda, they are talking about mountain dew as in moonshine, white lightning, corn spirits.

  • sampson county, North Carolina

  • This is not only Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, but with the great Merle Travis and Flatt and Scruggs Foggy Mountain Boys. What a fabulous find. Thank you for posting it.

  • my dad has an old record with this song on it...

and a cd so we can listen to it in the car. ha

    great great song.

this must be why my dad likes mt. dew so much. ha

  • Pike County Kentucky!

  • mtn dew is the best soda iv ever had

  • amen to wilkes county north carolina

  • It's funny how this song is found in so many lyrical variants, as if it were an actual folk song in oral transmission, given that it was actually written in 1928 and heard first as a recorded song, rather than being an actual traditional tune.

  • mountain dew has too much sugar

  • @Conf1ictz lol.....they are not referring to the soda....this song is about moonshine....moonshining was big in the days of this song.......

  • wilkes county north carolina

  • Why are we talking about Taylor Swift and rap ? We are dealing with Scruggs and Flatt here. When people do covers of these old songs you have to remember, its not to be better or try to out do the old version. Its to pay respect to the original artists. MUCH respect due in this case.

  • This ought to be the theme song for Mountain Dew soda.

  • lester and earl, gods gift to good folk!

  • yea, some of its gay but most of its good

  • @bamaraised07 If you know you dont like bluegrass why waist time posting?

  • @SecretWarrior1 no i was saying i dont like all that gangster crap, its stupid and doesnt help anything.and i wouldnt doubt it up in the hills, down here you have to watch which county you buy from, somes just bleehh

  • LOL You aint got nothin on Va mountain shine. Franklin County baby. Capitol of shine. lol

  • @SecretWarrior1 thats where i'm from

  • @SecretWarrior1 evidently you have never been to Johnston County, NC....lol

  • REAL music played by REAL musicians-fantastic!

  • the shit that gets called "southern" today... i can't tell taylor swift apart from avril lavigne, and what the fuck is up with wilco and the kings of leon? hell no, THIS is southern music.

  • totally agree

  • country agree more with that statement. modern country is mostly the bastard child of pop music fused with southern rock. in taylors case, almost all pop music. plus shes from pennsylvania anyway

  • what's wrong with Pennsylvania?

  • he said that taylor swift is not southern music. taylor swift is from PA, which is not even in the south.

  • @AgentCarter besides I'd rather listen to Zac Brown or Jamey Johnson anyway.

  • zac brown...meh

Jamey johnson is okay, but why listen to him when you could listen to the clasics hies practically ripping off of.

still both are way better than taylor swift

  • @AgentCarter Did you ever hear of the tradionalist movement in country. These would be people like Rady Travis, Jamey Johnson, and others. They pay homage to traditonal country while making it their own. The classics are great but still I wouldn't say anyone is being ripped off.

  • i do like that they are having a traditionalist movement, but i still dont much care for jamey johnson

  • Who's the fiddler ?

  • i think Stanley brothers version is better,by the way im 16,i love this,i was raised in the HOOD,and hate anything to deal with it,this is the real stuff,TAYLOR SWIFT can suck on this

  • rap and new country can go to hell. this is the best music iv ever heard

  • not all new country is bad, most is, but not all but rap i'm right there with you

  • @blootoons lol "new country"

Flatt and Scruggs music just puts a smile on my face

  • @blootoons I agree this is good. But most genres have some good and some bad. Some just require more digging and patience to find them than mountain/blue grass do. This is easy to sort out. So, let's just enjoy the good like this when we find it. And pray the rest doesn't wind up as "on hold music" when we try to place calls or Muzak when we are stuck on an elevator.

    I'm glad this was posted.

  • I love how Earl just sorta plunks along till his ride then kicks into overdrive and lays down a spectacular lead break.

Yeah, go Earl, your da man, you've always been the man ......

  • Nice....Esp. Earl & Paul. Uncle Josh does the much better job singing this on Volume 8 of their t.v. show video disks. The stellar bluegrass band of all time.

  • classic song

  • PURE AMERICAN BEAUTY!

  • HoDown!!!

    Yeee Haaaaaa!

  • this is real american music right here

  • @confederateful don't you mean right chia? that's how we say it round my parts

  • who is in this merle haggard

  • Not Merle Haggard, that's Merle Travis. He was one of the greatest fingerpicking guitarists. Evere heard the term "Travis picking"? Influenced Che Atkins.

  • ok i heard lester say merle and i assumed it was merle haggard and yeah i can play a little bit of travis stuff
