I was talking to a local banker today about this BAC scheme. He was astonished that this happened. He did not hear about it and almost didn't believe it until I found an obscure article on a financial site. Basically, the thing that caused us this depression in 2008, credit default swaps, was moved from BAC's Merrill unit to Bank America. By doing that it just made the US taxpayer the responsible party. And btw, those swaps were originally sold to French banks, the ones going going bankrupt.
