I was at the Howie Mandel show last night at Caesar's Windsor and they played this on a loop and it took a few times of it playing before we realized what was going on. Hilarious! And P.S. can't get it out of my head now. Da dum, da dum, da dum dad dum dum... lol
Yeah, saw this at Howie's show too. At first I didn't notice. Then I was annoyed. Then it was HILARIOUS. Then I was annoyed again. Then it went right back to hilarious. Great opening I thought.
saw howie mandel 10/1 at mgm grand @ foxwoods CT. This being played in the beginning on continuous loop was absolutely ridiculous. Got mixed reaction from crowd, but most cheered each time it started. Then it stopped, all cheer. Howie rewinds it part way and starts again. People are now delirious. Both Howie & opening comic, John Mendoza say that we will talk about this or have it stuck in our head-- And here I am now. Oh Happy Day. lol
@TheBob1128 HAHAAH bob i was there@!!!!!!!! soo fucking funny, it was torture hearing this over and over and over then the first comedian comes out and is like, "Man, you guys would be happy to even see Hitler come out right now."
Yes! I was also at the Hartwick College Howie Mandel show on September 25th, 2010 and this song being played on a loop got a hilarious reaction. People boo'd, but occasionally forgot they were booing and cheered. I think the loop made them delirious. As for me I was just sitting there thoroughly enjoying the fact that everyone else was getting pissed off.
You know he did the same show at hartwick college september 2010 with this video on a loop and a loop and a loop.... It was pretty funny that part to see the riots
we were at a Howie Mandel show on the 22nd at the State Fair. this song was playing, but they were secretly replaying the parts over and over so it seemed REALLY long. but then we figured it out. :D it was really funny!
This was my father's favorite song. He used to play it on the ukulele. He would tune the uke with the intonation, "my dog has fleas" (you'll know what I mean if you've ever seen it done). Beautiful intonation by Larry Hooper, by the way. What a personality he had.
See Wikipedia Oh Happy Day (1952) to read the interesting history of this song. It includes that fact that Don Howard heard the song from his Ohio State girlfriend, created his own rendition and had it copyrighted. The original composer of the song came forward a few weeks after the song made the pop charts and a settlement was reached. The original composer Mrs. Nancy Binns Reed is today considered co-composer of Oh Happy Day.
Thanks to YouTube and Chen for making this great music available to us in 2009... brings back great memories... where oh where have the great music people gone... sure nothing like this on TV or radio today.
Thanks, Chen! My brother and I used to sing this song back in the 50's when it was popular.. I sang the melody, he sung the bass and we had a great time.
Howie's still using this loop to start the show -- saw him last night 2/13/09 in Morristown, NJ.......I couldn't remember Larry's name until the drive home...Told the wife its got to be on YouTube....and I was right!....Thanks to the poster of the video.....definately loses some of the hilarity without the audience reaction here @home....but it was a riot at the show...when would it end? teasingly lengthened after several loops....then REWOUND...HAHA
Howie Mandel played this loop before his show last Saturday in Westbury. It was cute for the first 5 min, by 20 min it was obnoxious. Howie was hillarious, John Mendoza was also very funny. But a "short" 25 min intermission before the show? Give me a break!
I was there too. I wondered what was happening but it didn't dawn on me until half of the way in; 2 more minutes and there would have been a riot. This was memorable and Mandel now think that people on Long Island have tourettes. "NOT ON LONG ISLAND" "AHHHHH" "LODADOLA". As he started talking about Bobby, a guy named Andri got up to go the bathroom and Howie caught it. Then he complained about it and then asked his girlfriend to give a proposal, the question wasent popped I don't think.
Saw this last night at Howie Mandel's show at Mohegan Sun!!! The video editing to make it effecively a tape loop was brilliant! Anyone who's taken 20th Century Music History in college would immediately think of Alvin Lucier's "I am sitting in a room"!
I'm glad I'm not the only one!!! Saw Howie Thursday night and it was absolutely hillarious when they had this video on. I still sing it to my friend just to make her mad! LOL Now I'll have to send her the link lol
Yeah, we were there too! Wasn't it totally annoying??? Yet really funny when everyone clued in that it wasn't going to stop!!! Pretty funny! What'd you think of the show? John Mendoza was pretty funny too.
It was so annoying that I learned the words and sang it most of the way home! Until we saw went through the accident on the 400.
But the show was hillarious. Howie is SOOOO THIN!!!! John was funny too. We were in the 2nd row and scared to hell about him picking on us! LOL but he/they didn't :)
Yeah, I felt bad for the people who answered, but really, after hearing what he said to people after they talked, I'd keep my mouth shut! Especially the lady with the nurse's outfit! Shut up already!! But it was an experience! You can see Howie's act on You Tube, very similar! Can't believe he's been married so long, kind of sweet!
He said 30 years, but on his bio it says 27!! Can't find any photos of his wife. You should check out his website (google it, it's the official one) - pretty funny and he has more of those hidden camera stunts. His daughter is 22 so some D-O-N-D models are probably even younger!
OMG he was born in 55?? Who knew!!! LOL I thought he was in his mid-40s! LOL A lot of the stuff on his 'official' site is old.. nothing new is being posted other than tour dates. hahahaha.. i just noticed the little germs on his header bar LOL and a quick search of his wife's name doesn't produce any pictures at all!!! Oh well... where are you from?
Apparently he books over 200 shows a year! He's away a lot - is that why he's been married so long!?!?! I can't say where I'm from b/c I have recipe videos posted and should remain annonymous! But if you want to see my recipe for brownies or pie, just click on my name! It's been fun chatting with you! Notice how, even tho it drove us crazy - did you not hear that song at 2:30 am like John said you would? - we BOTH saved Oh Happy Day to our FAVOURITES?????? Take care,
i seen mandel at casino rama, and ive had this song stuck in my head, i looked around the net forever tryin to find this song, i love it. its so funny.
Thanks so much for posting this! We just saw Howie and thought this was so funny! It's hard to explain to someone so being able to show them is perfect!
Howie performed at my school, Rochester Institute of Technology, a few days ago. This song has been stuck in my head ever since. The crowd's reaction to this song being played on loop was definitely priceless.
chen give me a little shout for asking you to find this. i'm going to see howie again at the trop in ac on august 10. let's see if he plays this again.
saw howie mandel at tropicana in atlantic city. this was some funny stuff at the begining of the show. i asked chen73 for it and he found it. thanks chen. u had to be at the show to appericate how funny this was when it was looped several time.
I've been looking for this song ever since I saw it (and a different version of the video) played on a continuous loop for fifteen minutes at a Howie Mandel show. It was hawtsome then, it's hawtsome now. :D
Thank you so much for posting this!!! We saw Howie in Las Vegas a few days ago and this song has been stuck in our heads ever since. We thought it was hilarious!! You have to know Howie's humor to get it.

The million-seller was by Don Howard who wrote and sang the song in 1952 whcih was covered by several artists.
artemisx123 2 years ago
absolutely correct about Don Howard,
though Welk's version was on a label
with wider distribution than Howard's
version.

This was from a later period after Larry returned to the show after a long
illness. He recorded this in 1952 with
Lawrence for Coral records. That was
said to have sold nearly a million. Does
anybody have his ""Old Man River" from
the 1960's ? Was just on the show
a few times and not on a recording.

Never having seen the way Howie Mandel treated this
glorious piece o' cheese, I'd have never in my mind
connected this song, in any way, with the now-host
of 'Deal or No Deal'. Anyway, I love this ballad,
even if it is a glorious piece o' cheese!!
