He got the question twice, "did Michael convert to Islam" and he couldn't lie and say "yes he did", he said "he WISH that he did". The Sun then started with this rumor and the media took and ran with it, like they always do when it comes to michael. The fact that people in the story, including Michael's lawyer, said it was false, they just choose to ignore. The truth is not what the media cares about you know.
